My favourite day of the year (except possibly the 20th April when I land in Vegas!) Who's having pancakes for tea then? Cheers, Justin
I had homemade fluffy American style pancakes for breakfast. Mrs T is a wizard with the griddle. Pancakes, blueberries, raspberries, warm golden syrup, warm chocolate sauce.
making pancakes right now... that the snowed nailed us and we are stuck inside it just fits the bill for breakfast
I dont know about Pancake Day ? Here its Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, beginning of lent. Is that a British thing? Pancake Day? Seriously I dont know ,but enjoy those flapjacks ,every Sat. morning is Pancake Day at my place.
Dang it... already had a large bagel/cream cheese before I saw this, but I'll weave some pancakes into dinner tonight!!!
Had 'em last night for supper. Besides chili, pancakes is probably the most enjoyable thing a person can make. My recipe uses rice flour, cornmeal, wheat bran, oat flour and semolina (the key ingredient).
Free pancakes @ Ihop Free pancakes today (March 4) @ IHOP you get a short stack and make a donation. Good luck
Here in Southeastern Pennsylvania, today is Fastnacht Day thanks to the Pennsylvania Dutch, so go out and eat a donut. As for home made pancakes, this is my go-to recipe because I never have buttermilk in my refrigerator. Two tablespoons of white vinegar and regular milk are used in place of buttermilk. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Fluffy-Pancakes-2/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=pancakes%20vinegar&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Recipe%20Hub&soid=sr_results_p1i1
Growing up (Episcopalian in CT) we always had pancakes for Shrove Tuesday (it's a pre-Lent thing). Matter of fact, the church always had a fundraiser - Pancake Supper. So no, it's not just a UK thing
For the past few years, I've kept powdered buttermilk in my fridge - I find I prefer it in baking to the vinegar/milk combo (I think because my favorite buttermilk use is in a cold zucchini-avocado soup) The powdered stuff lasts a long time!
From what I understand the Russian Orthodox have it for a week but I'm not sure when their Lent begins.
Thanks ,I learn something new every day Problem is,I usually forget two things. just got back from long lunch with guys in neighborhood. Burgers and beers,I mentioned pancakes but that idea was voted down in a hurry.
Actually, it's Pazcki day but thanks for playing. In Poland, pączki are eaten especially on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the last Thursday prior to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The traditional reason for making paczki was to use up all the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house, because their consumption was forbidden by Catholic fasting practices during Lent. In North America, particularly the large Polish community of Chicagoland and in other large cities across the Midwest, Paczki Day is celebrated annually by immigrants and locals alike. The date of this observance merges with that of pre-Lenten traditions of other immigrants (e.g., Pancake Day, Mardi Gras) on Fat Tuesday. With its sizable Polish population, Chicagoans celebrate the festival on both Fat Thursday and Fat Tuesday, and also often eat paczki on Casimir Pulaski Day.
Paczki Day was last week, Pancake Day was this week (Thursday, Tuesday) Everyone gets their own treats, different days, no need to share
In Chicago, Paczkis were flowing yesterday. Poland celebrates it early. When the tradition started, it ran the entire week preceeding Ash Wednesday to allow people to clear their homes of all sweets prior to lent. People bring boxes to work or home to share in Chicago. There are always enough Paczkis for everyone!!!
