Do all casinos still take money plays bets?

By that I mean they let you gamble the cash without exchanging it for chips.

    Thank you.

I don't think I've ever been refused, but I've only done it for a single bet. Not sat there trying to play cash for any kind of session.

In craps, as long as the dice aren't out and it isn't placing on the numbers you are welcome....field or pass line it has been done without too much problem. Blackjack as well but usually for one hand.....it generally doesn't "ride" over and over.

My experience is that lots of places don't accept such bets without doing the chip change first. You have to ask, or just try it and see what happens.

I've never seen a cash bet refused anywhere, though I'm sure they'd "suggest" buying chips if continued.

It is typically assumed the money play is a one time play. If he wins, he gets his winnings in chips. If he loses the bettor usually walk, or is asked to buy chips.

It seems this player pops up most often for a spin at roulette, or at higher mininum BJ table. When I do this on a rare occasion, I am usually way down, way drunk, or both.(yep)

My experience is that they won't refuse cash bets unless the shooter has the dice and the bet is made late.

They'll typically handle cash bets in a number of ways:

Cash bets for any center bets (hardways, any craps, etc.) will be picked up by the base dealer and checks will be placed on the layout by the stick man.

Cash bets on the field will play where they lay and they'll normally leave the bill where it is and pay the winner in chips. Field bettors tend to be a suprersitious lot and the casino accomodates them by generally allowing them to keep their bills on the layout. (This policy will vary from place to place, depending on their policies.)

Cash bets on the pass line and don't pass line will typically be exchanged for checks as soon as the dealer can comfortably do so. (Again, losing bets will be picked up by the base dealer and passed to the boxman to be put into the drop box.) They pay the various pass line bets by stacking chips of the same denomonation next to the winning bet, (They call this "sizing in.") so they'll want to convert bills to checks so that they make an acurate payout and so that the cameras can validate the dealers actions.

The table's ulitmate goal is to convert all of your bills for casino checks eventually for the above stated reasons - and for the fact that those chips don't really seem like money you've had to work for!

One of my most memorable blackjack tables was years ago at MGM. A guy I was playing with would ONLY bet cash and only in $20s every hand. It was a $100 table so he kept betting several $20s. The pit boss and dealer didn't like it, but they let him do it. After he'd run out of cash he would take all the chips he won, cash them in for more $20s and start all over again. They allowed it for hours but the pit was watching the entire time and I think he was calling the cage whenever the guy went to cash in more chips.

Most if not all of my recent experiences they will not let money play. I am not saying you can not do it but I have not seen it in a while. They do just like Bazzito52 said

I guess accepting cash depends a lot on the game and bet. I usually play BJ, and that's where I've always seen the cash bettors, as recently as last Thursday at the Orleans for $100 a hand. That didn't last very long, but I've never seen a pit critter discourage the practice. I'm sure that some bets at craps would have to be with chips just to fit on the layout.

Has anyone seen it where the table is crowded or where the money wouldn't fit on the table?

Like doing it on a place 6 bet, or spreading a bunch of $5 bills for inside roulette bets?

The only time I've done it and saw it done(other people) was roulette bet on black/red. The table wasn't full either.

The last two times I've used match play coupons I attempted to do "money plays" but the dealers made me convert to chips first. One at a BJ table at Four Queens and the other at a craps table at Circus Circus.

One of the funniest things i've seen in Vegas involved a money play. We were playing roulette at MC. Young guy in his early twenties swaggers up with his "boys" in tow. Proceeds to yap for 5 minutes, explaining to them what a great bet roulette was, but you had to hit it at the correct time. I can only assume his logic revolved around the last twenty numbers being displayed.

He waits for his moment and just as the dealer spins the ball, he throws a bill in the general direction of the layout and announces "$5 black". The bill barely hit the felt and the dealer, in one move, scooped it up, crumpled it and fired it back, announcing, "No money play, you're on the Strip now kid, this isn't Downtown". :evillaugh

Needless top say, his status with his crew took a hit.

I've seen money plays on the bj and craps tables, for craps usually for pass or field bets. While you may put money plays for come bets, they will change it to chips when placing the come bet on the number. I doubt that they will let you put money plays on place bets or the middle bets, most times they will exchange your bill for chips.

I have seen people making money plays pass line bets, the crew will try to exchange the bill for chips if they can but as someone also mentioned, you can say that money plays and they will leave it alone if you request it. Not sure about the odds though.

I used to do it sometimes, but in my last couple of trips I have been told they will no longer do it (blackjack tables, MGM/Mlife casinos).

Thank you for the replies. I remember seeing it in the past when it was more common. I do not remember the last time I saw it so maybe the rules have changed.

I have not seen this in a MAJOR casino in 10 years or so at a blackjack table--it is simply not allowed anymore at higher end places. They will force you to change the cash. Don't know about craps or downtown/Reno/locals joints.

This was very common in Reno/Tahoe in the 90s, less so in LV. I think the "paper plays" were vulnerable to various cheating moves, which is why the dealer would scream out "paper plays 100!". Also, the casino wants that cash in the drop box, not on the table.
