Was wondering if any of you who normally spend more than 8+ hours a day gambling while in Vegas, have ever strayed from that during a trip? Did you end up regretting it? Did it ruin your trip?

I spend long hours at the tables, but my upcoming trip is with a couple that doesn't like to gamble all that much. Instead of fight it (after all I invited them to come along), i just plan on limiting my hours at the table and try something different for a change. Just hope I don't regret it.

Just trying to figure a few things out. Like how long are going to be there? Is this couple "first timers" or have they been to Vegas before? Is your SO going along so it will be 2 couples?

If you're going to be out there 4 days or longer and the other couple has been to Vegas before, turn them loose 1 day and set a meet time for dinner. Of course this is if you haven't been getting your gambling jones taken care of.

If they're first timers, kinda hard to turn them loose unless you think they'd be agreeable to it.

The two of us are 12-14 hour players, but if we have guests, we can certainly break away and entertain/hand hold etc, at least for a day or two, several hours per day.

On the other hand, not sure I would invite non-gamblers to join us in Vegas.:poke:

If you're still enjoying yourself you won't regret it. I used to spend long hours at the tables as well during guy trips or solo trips. Now its a lot less but we're still having fun. If you're stuck doing things you hate like shopping or lame shows then you will be annoyed and feel like you're wasting precious gambling time.

You'll also probably end up doing more hit-and-runs throughout the day as well which may not be a bad thing.

For years my trips centered around gambling, gambling and more gambling. Loved it. More recently my trips have entailed less gambling and more "other things". It helps that my girlfiend (a non gambler) is fun and that I now have gambling options closer to home. The bottom line is if you are with people who are fun and you enjoy hanging out with them you'll have a great time, there are so many fun things to do in Vegas. I'm sure you'll still find a way to get in some good table time.

We will play video poker about 7 or 8 hours per day, over 6 or 7 days. However, we NEVER bring anyone else with us, because we want to do our stuff, and not be a tour guide.

We will though, often meet up for a meal or a drink with "Vegas friends" that are in town at the same time (like JackinCol). We very much enjoy those get-togethers and trading war stories, but then we all go back to our usual routine.

nothing every goes to plan when gambling.

when I am with non gambling friends, I always feel shorted on my gambling time. I just accept this fact and try to play late at night or before people wake up.

as a table game player, i use to do the hit and run thing, but i noticed i would lose a few hundred all over the place. and maybe once or twice a trip find a hot spot and make all of it back. (these trips are with light gamblers)

i have had more success where I was not limted by time, and if it required to play longer and longer to try and win or get back to even I could spend the time doing it.

either way, have a good time with your friends, gaming will always be there.

Some of my favorite trips have been fewer hours gambling. Play a round of golf in the morning/afternoon, see a show at night, then gamble a few hours after the show. Maybe a little time at the pool or other tourist attractions. It's nice to have 4 nights for these trips and definitely more relaxing than all out gambling.

Then other trips are pure gambling fix with 12-16 hours a day. If it's that kind of trip, 2 or 3 nights is plenty. Win or lose, ready to get home.

It all depends on who's on the trip. It definitely helps to make reservations for tee times and shows in advance because if you're with a group, it's tough to decide what to do in the moment and you end up wasting time trying to figure it out.

I do hit & run gambling during the day (5 min here 20 min there). Usually after dinner (around 9pm) i say bye to the wife and hit the craps table. I usually stay on craps, sometimes jumping from table to table or even casino to casino till around 3am. I get a solid 6-7 hours at night and another 2-3 hours during the day (most times wake up early, tell the wife I'll go grab her a coffee and then about an hour or so later she's texting me--where's my coffee?)

In earlier years we spent long hours at the blackjack tables - 5 to 6 hour sessions. Seems like lower buy-ins went a lot farther back then. Now we spend most time at slots...casino hopping from about 8am to 3am the next morning. A good majority of the hours are spent playing and walking!

Me and my wife (both big on Craps and Blackjack) went another couple where the wife did not really gamble at the time.

I definitely finished that trip thinking much time was wasted not doing the things me and my wife like to do. On the upside, we have groomed this person to the point where I think our next couple's trip will be more successful. Last time we went with them to a local Indian casino, she could barely be pried from the table. It took awhile, but she's sufficiently hooked.

Odds are, you have a much better chance of actually winning money if you do hit and run, maybe not as entertaining, but it could work for you. Of course, if you play poker..not so much.

More info. We're going for 4 nights. This couple is a lot of fun to hang out with, but I already know they won't want to put more than 2 hours a day gambling. The other guy wants to bring the clubs to go golfing, send the wives shopping, so they are already starting to fill my trip with activities and i can see where this is going. I told them we don't have to do everything with each other and got a "what you're already trying to ditch us" jokingly...I think.

I think I'll have to get up earlier than everyone, go to bed later and do some hit and run sessions like everyone said.

Good Luck, "Boss" ... I hope it all works out for you, without hurting anyone's feelings. Looks like you're going to have to pick your opportunities.

I usually go to Vegas Friday and fly out Sunday. I will always drink/party the first night then gamble 8+ hours the second night. My last trip, I barely gambled. I don't think it ruined my trip since I got lucky on a slot machine, winning a descent amount. I wished I gambled more.... a lot more.

It's okay though since Vegas trips are frequent, about once a month, coming from EST. You will be there for 4 days so you can have more time to enjoy drinking/partying and gambling. You don't have to be as rushed.

You can always run away in the late night. Sleeping is always minimal in Vegas.....

    Good luck!

If possible I try and get in a few days early so I can get my gambling fix in. Then if later in the trip I'm unable to get to the tables as often as I like, I'm ok with it.

March Madness is the perfect example of this. I get in early in the week to do gambling and then I have 4 days mainly filled with basketball.

When I try and get others to come to Vegas, I make it very clear to them how I go about a Vegas trip. It is the one place where I do what I want when I want. I'm simply not willing to do something I know I won't enjoy doing. Like if someone refuses to eat anywhere other than food courts, they know beforehand that I will be heading to some nicer places alone a few nights.

I don't mind being a little bit of a tour guide, but I also want to be able to tell people to go X/Y/Z and meet up in 5 hours.

    Long hours, yes.
    All in one spot, no.
Would be hard to stay in one spot for that long.
We move around during the day and settle down at time but always gambling.

I love a good marathon at the craps table but this past trip when I won, I did it quickly. I quintupled my buy in at crap in 1 hour so I cut and run. I hit $180 on a slot after putting in only $20, cash out see cashier. I get hammered at a roulette table quickly. I take the remaining $50, limp to the black jack table and turn it into $250. My rebounds and wins all came very quickly. I'd rather be up a few hundred than get just a few dollars in comps.

I go to LV twice a year for a week each visit so I don't feel that angst if I'm not at the tables all day. I'll usually spend a combined total of about five or six hours a day.

I typically don't play much my last day and a half. I'm either trying to ensure I go home with my winnings or guarding against chasing my losses.
