Franchise fee in LV??

Just read on another board about some recent LV visitors being charged a "franchise fee" at certain restaurants. Someone mentioned Cabo Wabo & The Sugar Factory...about 5% of the total bill. Really? Anyone know anything further? Maybe, as we visit LV....we should share the info & start a list of those places to possibly avoid for future visitors...... Just a thought....

 

I wouldn't be surprised. And at some point there will be a "convenience fee" tacked on because they have bathrooms available.

 

Perhaps we will begin to see fees instead of price increases on everything. It's the new approach to increasing profit. I even see that language creeping into my monthly bills at home.

 

I may be in the minority, but I certainly wouldn't "avoid" an establishment I enjoy or like over a fee. I'd consider the additional fee in relationship to the value I perceive to get from the establishment for the money I spend.

 

Crazy idea, but fees are the new norm for nearly everything we consume. Not shocked to see it in restaurants now.

 

There was an article on Vegas Chatter about this. The fee was quite hefty. They had a picture of a receipt (Cabo Wabo) and it really added up.

It's another BS fee but it won't keep people from coming. After resort fees and 6/5 BJ i've learned that people really don't care and will pay whatever they're asked to pay in the name of having a good time.

 

Josh nailed it. For all the savvy and pissed travelers here, the consuming public in general, or at least the Vegas-consuming public, is really a pack of lemmings.

 

I will avoid fees where I can.

It's definitely driving me away from the city in one way or the other. When vegas loses its value, it loses this customer in the long-run because there are so many other cities that cost as much as Vegas is beginning to cost.

 

I just can't agree with that latter sentiment. Way before most of us got the bug, Vegas already had proven over and over again that its alias is Resilience. The corporate invasion, it turns out, didn't kill off all the "great" stuff the Mob had done. The kid period saw likely the second biggest building boom in the city's history. The greatest meltdown since 1929 did absolutely nothing to visitation. AC and Indian casinos and Asia certainly were gonna be the demise, until they weren't. Gambling has been dumbing-down for years, prices have been going up, clubs and d*ucherdom moved in, crime and traffic and grime rise, on and on and on, and the joint still rocks.

Individuals might leave, move on, desire some new thrills and treats and locales, but there's always someone else to take his/her place.

 

Quite possible that the higher use of MyVegas and Groupon are responsible for the fees. Problem is though after a while the MyVegas and Grouponners will fade away, but the fees will stay. Just like the 'temporary' fees on bags at the airlines.

 

Yes and all the comps being given too are changing rates!

 

You know, I will always have love for Vegas, so if someone takes my spot, I'm happy. lol

 

I think this is much worse than resort fees since you are getting nothing for it. Reminds me of the service charges in Aruba.

Is there a way we could try to compile a list of restaurants with these bogus fees? (Like the resort fee thread?)

VitalVegas has reported Cabo Wabo, Sugar Factory, Senor Frogs, and Rhumbar as charging them. Cabo Wabo is shown to have it on their menu (calling it a CNF of 4.7%) and a Rhumbar online review said it was on "some" of the menus (calling it CSF of 3.5%).

 

From what I know from at least two of those places, the easiest way to fight this thing is to avoid the restaurants since they're factory eats in a town deep in fantastic food.

 

Absolutely. The food is shit at 3 of those places (Rhumbar I don't think serves food except for special events).

It would just be nice to get the word out for those who may consider it based on them being such front and center spots.

 

Yep. Info is power. And this whole concept is simply asinine. But then again, so many chain/factory eats have gotten away with bilking the public for years simply with what they put on a plate.

I just realized something. Each of the 4 places that (so far) have this fee regularly offer Groupons, LivingSocial, or Travelzoo vouchers. Maybe they find it a way to get new customers in while having everyone make up for the discount.
