Does anyone on here ever go there? Any thoughts about the casino? Ill be there 2 days for a two day bingo bash and will have some down time between sessions so how's the gaming there? How's the drink service?
Any good VP I should know about?
Anyone take the shuttle the offer to MB? Curious as to how on time they are and if I took a cab to the strip form there, how much would it cost?

Yup, good VP and good booze (and good beer on tap)
Also decent comps for video poker...

It is very calm compared to the strip, but I like it quite a bit. It is an absolute paradise for VP, with great pay tables at all different denominations--including at the bars, where drink service is also excellent.

The clientele is mostly older locals and it is missing the party vibe of the strip, but most everything else makes up for it. The pool, gym, and spa are also top notch. For some reason there is not much commentary on the board about GVR, but I know I will be spending more and more time there as I get older.

Thanks for the responses! I am more of a "local" person anyways.... Not saying I don't love the hoopla of the Strip every now and then, but I'd prefer the older/off strip/DT so sounds like Im going to enjoy my time there!!

GVR is a beautiful property, and along with Red Rock, are the classier of the Stations' chain. Both have top-notch VP and great dining available. You don't hear much chatter about either of those two properties, since they are so far out from the center of the Strip area, but are definitely worth the trip.

We love gvr be sure to look up a host they can help with comps and give alot better comps than than through marketing. We mainly play $1 job deluxe for $1 or 50 cents with a few slots.

Ask for Mary Beth for your host she is the best host we have ever had. Alot of good video poker we don't play the over 100% too much variance for us

I have stayed there 4 times and the pool area is very nice and I love everything about the casino. The standard rooms are top quality but not huge. I highly suggest that you take advantage of the spa facilities which is included in the resort fee to enjoy the hot tub and pamper yourself as it is a well run operation.

GVR was my "home" casino when I lived there 7+ years ago and loved it. The dealers were very friendly and they were generous with comps. While I spend more time at MB and the Cosmo now that I live in Texas, I will usually make a day trip to visit and play there.

Buddha pretty much nailed it. I would rate RR a little bit better than GVR but ya couldn't go wrong with stopping at either/or house.

Made an afternoon stop at GVR last October. Very nice casino. Very clean, roomy, and offered lots of machine options. We also found the machines to be much looser than the strip. We plan on visiting there again on our next trip.

The signage at GVR is not good. We walked around 20 minutes trying to find how we get to the hotel desk to check in.
Attending a convention there once too, again the signage to the convention meeting rooms was nowhere to found in an easy manor.
Signs directing foot traffic to the buffet are small and obscure.
Good gaming, good drinks, nice rooms, awesome pool , but you have to ask for directions to find anything cause there ain't no signs

You mentioned you were a "locals" person, so am I, but I really don't consider GVR a "locals" property, except for the casino. Great casino, excellent food. I stayed there and actually left early and moved to the strip, I just could not stand the snooty service at the hotel. I also got jerked around at the players club on some coupons THEY sent to me, but I guess they didn't intend for them to actually get used.

Liked the property, although not the location, but I really hated the attitudes there. They are not as great as they think they are. This is over a year ago so maybe things have changed. I've stayed at Red Rock several times and, although their casino and rooms are greatly superior to GVR, I've not gotten the attitude there.

When I think of a locals place, I think of friendly service from workers who are glad you're there. That's not GVR at all.

Well it's not a tourist property because they don't want visitors! Offers from Stations to out of towners are a joke. They can be rude to me all they want, just send good offers...

For the money the best breakfast buffet in town. Agreed that video poker is also good to go at GIVE.

Wife and I try to hit GVR every trip for at least a few hours. It's also a great place to stop for a bite to eat on way back from Hoover Dam. The buffet is pretty good.

I took a cab from GVR back to the Bellagio as I didn't want to wait for the shuttle back to Mandalay Bay and it was $30 or $35. That was about 5 years ago.
