It's been a couple years since this was brought up on this forum and since the weather is quite conducive for doing it - here are instructions for walking to and from the airport.
Upon leaving the baggage area, walk back across the roads towards the departure curb by Terminal 1. Head north on the sidewalk on the west side of the road. Keep following it around past a grassy area with a bunkin' bronco statue. Stay on the sidewalk as it winds northeast alongside Paradise Rd. Stay on that until you hit the intersection of Paradise and Tropicana Rd.
It's as simple as that, maybe about a mile up that point.
After sitting on a plane for awhile, it's a refreshing way to get to your hotel.

As cramped as the flight can be... I'm not hoofing it from McCarran to the strip!

No, I'm not. People walk blocks and block on the Strip, so why not from the airport. Another plus for this walk is that you're not fighting any sidewalk traffic. You have the whole route to yourself.
The main hassle would be if you have bulky luggage.

Chef, I've always enjoyed reading about your walking to/from the airport. It's something that I know I'll never attempt. But I always like reading about it for some reason.

Considering some of the crazy walks some people do, I don't know why walking to/from the airport should be considered all that odd. But it is. And I suppose that's what makes it kinda cool.

You had me up until the point that you mentioned the bunkin' bronco statue - then I knew you were longhauling me.
According to Google Maps you walk due north-east across McCarran Field to the corner of Tropicana and Koval then one block east to The Strip - should save you half a mile and less traffic to dodge as well :evillaugh

Don't forget to dodge police and climb the fence very quickly, avoiding the barbed wire!

I'm sorry sir, you cannot walk this way. If you have luggage, you'll have to walk through the Tunnel.... :evillaugh

Given the appropriate weather, traveling with a pack, daylight & perhaps staying @ the Tropicana/ LV Blvd corner -- this could indeed be a good way to stretch your legs after a cramped flight.

Thank you, Mr. Chef! I just never considered this option.

By the time I've walked from my plane, through the airport, changing terminals, through the baggage claim, my legs are plenty stretched, I just want the vacation to begin!

You can not get to Koval without going to Trop and Paradise first. There is not access out of airport, that I'm aware of, that takes you directly to Koval.

He was joking - he was suggesting you just cut across the airport grounds and climb the fence.

I've never walked from McCarran anywhere except garage or taxi stand. I did once, many years ago, walk from Rio to McCarran. I don't recommend it.

I hope this thread is a joke and no one actually considers doing this. If you really can't afford a cab, take the public bus.

Walking from the airport is a potentially dangerous suggestion. And if you are arriving at night, I would never consider it. Not only is area you would potentially be walking through (or very near) is amongst one of the more dangerous areas infested with street walkers, and known drug dealing areas.

In addition, the traffic going into and out of the airport does not mix well with pedestrian traffic.

I can see no good reason to even consider this.
