The thread about the porn slappers made me want to vent a little. Call me crazy, but aren't the timeshare hawkers infinitely more irritating than the porn slappers used to be? I mean at least you could walk past the slappers relatively undisturbed. There's seemingly no getting away from the timeshare jerks.

My wife made eye contact with one (big mistake) once and the idiot chased us from the escalators near Bally's down past PH before he finally gave up with the generous salutation, "well f* you then, mother-f*ers." I was on my to clock the guy when my wife pulled me back.

Anybody figure out the magic sauce for keeping them away? We've gotten to the point that we avoid walking sections of the Strip where they're most heavy, and try to keep people between us and them where possible. I'm wondering if brandishing a taser might help. Probably not.

Walk separately. They don't usually bother solos.

I've told them my credits so bad I can't get a college loan. They leave you alone quick

Learn some phrase in a foreign language (or at least, something that sounds remotely like a foreign language). When they approach you, just repeat the phrase a few times and look confused. They will give up before they start, won't be worth their time to try to communicate at that point.

Ignore, and don't speak anything. Not a "no" or "not interested", just speak nothing.

For some, it goes against how we were raised. Being impolite and not acknowledging someone speaking to you, but it works. Trust me on this!

I gotta go with Joe on this one. Just keep on walking. If they want to do backflilps and chase you for miles, that's their problem. I just keep walking. Or if I make eye contact and they start a speech, I say "No thanks" smile and keep walking.

Oh.. and I try not to ever bring my husband with me to Vegas. No hubby = no purchasing cred to them and no hubby = no drama for me. :)

Walking solo doesn't do it anymore. The ones at PH don't care. Be firm and don't give any affirmative answers. It needs to no, no thank you, already saw that sow and not available. And in the case of timeshare creeps or porn slappers, I find that keeping my hands closed slows them done.

Is it just timeshare creeps? It also seems to be the scum trying to put their headphones on your ears to listen to their garbage music, the people pushing nightclub passes, and the people hocking strip club deals. The stretch of strip from PHo to Flamingo is easily the worst to walk. Can't wait for the Cromwell to open because the scaffolding and congestion is causing that area to get extra seedy right now.

This is what usually works for me also.

I usually go with a friend and they don't seem to bother 2 guys quite as much. I think the dream target is the slightly older married couple. The closer you get to that demographic, the harder time you're going to have.

I just ask them "Do I look stupid?" They usually answer "No!"

I then reply "Then why are you trying to sell me something only a truly stupid person would buy? Huh? A timeshare is the worst investment possible, any competent investment manager will tell you that, and I am personally insulted that you would even approach me! Have a good day!"

Sometimes they are speechless and I walk away. Sometimes they try to argue. Depending on my mood I have engaged some of them for over 20 minutes in an argument over timeshares (they are indeed very bad investments). If I tie somebody up in an energetic discussion I figure I am saving others a hassle and having some cheap entertainment! It's never gotten physical.

I'm not sure why some accuse me of being arrogant. I'm just right all the time!

I don't think I've ever had a timesharer try to talk to me. But I am not married and am either alone or with a buddy. I'm also a New Yorker and very good at ignoring people that try to talk to me.

As far as porn slappers go, they don't bother me too much. They won't touch you at all, so I just ignore them. I wouldn't be upset if they were gone. The street characters, I hate them. I deal with them in Times Square, where I have worked, and I just think they are a parasite.

My parents traded their timeshare in the Cayman Islands for four others and gave one to each of the kids as part of our "inheritance." Thanks mom and dad for the apartment I have to pay $600 a year for in maintenance fees on an Island it costs me $800 to fly to on my (at that time) $20,000 salary. Of course I couldn't pay the fees, let alone visit, and two years later "sold" the timeshare to in-laws in exchange for paying off the debts.

Back on point, for some reason, the timeshare people always let us go when we tell them we're Canadian. Not sure why, but it happened often enough we learned to say it right away.
