I had the $9.99 special at the Market Street Cafe in the California earlier this month and it was a pretty sorry piece of prime rib. Not horrible, just a poor cut. It's still a great deal, and I'd try it again (with hopes for a better piece of meat), but I wouldn't classify it as a great meal. My experience may not be typical. I've only had it once there.
I was gonna recommend the deal at Market Street Cafe, but Scot's is the second or third review I've seen lately that gave it less than high marks. We had it for the first time last year and it was amazing -- especially for the money. Of course, back then it was still $8, we were very hungry and also a little tipsy so maybe all that combined clouds the judgement a bit.
I concur with this from our visit that was in 2011. It was not very good and would not do it again. We were trying to be cheap and did the Café instead of the Redwood Grill @ $25. Maybe someone who has eaten at Redwood can chime in about it. The downtown Freemont coupon site used to have a coupon for the Redwood at $19.99. Since we are no longer interested in DT, I have not keep up to date if the FSE coupons website is still up?
For a prime rib dinner in a steakhouse setting try the Cortez Room. For a coffee shop special, try Ellis Island.
This deal is sort of a crapshoot. Last time I had it was very good. The two times before that one was just meh and the other was yuck! I often wonder if it depends when you go. The two yucky ones were late night experiences so maybe I received the junk cut left-overs. The good one was early dinner so maybe I got the "just out of the oven" cut, lol!
Acting on a tip from a bellman our first trip to Vegas, we went to The Cortez Room at Gold Coast. We've returned there on at least 3 trips, and I'm kind of a Prime Rib snob! BTW, they're horseradish has a big kick!
I second this! This place is terribly underrated and often overlooked and the prime rib is dynamite! It comes in three sizes. Large, ginormous, and cardiologist nightmare! Nope, no absentee celebrity chef there, but the food is great!
Had the prime rib at the Redwood last August. Can't remember the size that I ordered but do remember that I couldn't finish it! Really enjoyed it and it came with a starter (had the chowder and that was great too.) *** WARNING meat porn picture below ***
