My brother and I played craps for the first time last year. The stickman taught us the basics so we could play. We really enjoyed it a lot. We plan on playing when we go back and have been watching videos and things of that nature.

Here is my question. If you are at a $10 minimum table. You make your $10 Pass (or dont pass) bet, do the rest of your bets have to be $10 as well? So would I have to make a $10 come bet, or $10 on the hard 8's for instance, or could I make $5 bet on the hard 8's since I already bet the minimum?

This maybe a stupid question but we were just wondering and do not want to look like fools if we do it.

    Thanks

Definitely not a stupid question. Generally speaking, you need to bet the table minimum on everything except the bets at the center of the layout. So at a $10 table, you'd need to put $10 on the come, field, etc. (and $12 on the 6/8), but you could bet less on something like a hardway or C/E. I've never been told I couldn't toss a dollar on a hardway at a $10 table.

At a $10 table, all bets on the Come line, place bets on the numbers, and field bets would have to be $10 (or $12 in the case of placing the 6 and 8). For the hardways, horns, hop bets, etc. (all the stuff in the middle of the table) they will let you bet a buck. You don't have to bet the table min on those prop bets

As mentioned, table minimum in front of you, but any amount on the sucker bets.

In my opinion, the most important thing to learn on craps is the correct odds bets and payouts. The chips move pretty quickly. I'd like to know that i'm maximizing my odds and being paid correctly.

Good point about odds bets and place bets. It's important to know the correct amount to bet to get the correct odds. Many dealers will help you out but others will not.

Beware, once craps gets it's hooks in you; you can't break free.

Just funning. I fell in love with the game about 8-9 years ago. I was always frightened before that because I didn't understand the game. But now its in my blood. I walk into a casino and start itching to roll the dice.

Ain't that the truth. The rush of a heater is amazing especially when you are hitting your presses. Saw a guy last night that put up $5 on all of the bonus bets. Every single number hit. So he got alll small, all tall and hit em all. They had to call surveillance to verify the payout.

I will disagree with this a bit. I do not think knowing the payouts is all that important. Yes you should know them and over time they will become second nature to you. But if you spend your time at a craps table concentrating on "ok, if I place the nine for $15, how much will I get for a win?" your head will hurt. It is very rare that a dealer makes a mistake. They know what they are doing and, for less experience dealers, the other pit people will be watching them. Relax and enjoy the game.

I still screw up on my back bets depending on what the point is. By the time I finally get it right, it's time for me to drive home.

Well said and so true. Been to Vegas a dozen times and never played one hand of blackjack. Shoot the dice exclusively.

Don't worry about the odds as you have plenty of other stuff to focus on.

Find a sparse table, stand next to one of the dealers and let them know you are new and they will be happy to help you out. Just toss a few $1 chips on the hard ways for the dealer and they will be even more happy to help.

We learned and fell in love with craps many years ago - but with the table minimums going up on the strip, a bad run can really drain your bankroll fast.

I haven't seen $5 tables on the strip in forever....anyone know if they still exist?

I've seen $5 craps in the last year at Bally's and Excal (weekdays). Casino Royale always has a $3 table if you can get on.

Head Downtown - Golden Gate is my favorite place to roll and always has a $5 table. I learned to play about 3 years ago and it's by far my favorite game now.

You can find $5 on the strip during the day at a lot of places. Including the ones mentioned above, Quad has $5 as well. I've seen $5 at night during the week at many of these places as well, but not so much on the weekend. They games are definitely there, you just have to sniff them out.

Found one at Cosmo last week on a Thursday morning. Finding a $5 craps table surprised me so I jumped right in. I got my ass handed to me.:Þ

Couldn't agree more. We got hooked on craps during our first trip to Vegas in 2002. We started early one evening at a quiet, sparse table where the dealers were helping us a little. A group of Cuban-Americans filled up our table (they were all in Vegas for a wedding - the bride and groom were with them.) They were all pretty new to craps too, and let me tell you, when we hit our points, that joint was rockin'!! That was such a fun group, we felt like part of the family...and we won $2500+ and it was a $5 table!

That was the biggest party at a craps table I've ever seen and we were hooked ever since!
