I'll be flying in on a Thurs night, and have to start a poker tournament on Friday at noon. 3 hrs time difference that direction means I'm tired by 9pm or 10pm on the first night (Vegas time) and then wake up by 6 or 7am Vegas time.

The poker tournament the next day starting at noon needs to feel like noon or earlier to me, not 3pm, as I will be playing very late (hopefully). If I get tired, it will affect my performance.

Also, Thursday (leaving Cleveland at 6pm and arriving in Vegas around 8pm LV time) I will have to work, so I need to be up by about 8 or 9am at the latest in eastern time, so sleeping in that day won't be an option.

Any suggestions for how to stay up late my first night (ideally til 2 or 3am Vegas time) so that I can sleep easily until 10 or 11am Vegas time the next day?

5 Hour Energy upon arrival...Vodka Redbulls all night...and a pair of Advil PM's before bed to bring you back down (make sure you have 6-7 hours until you have to be up or you'll be groggy).

I'm always a little cautious about the caffeine and drugs approach, but that may be my last resort effort.

I once took two Ambien and still stayed up all night fueled by Red Bull-Goose & Degenerate Gambling Adrenaline. Didn't remember much though! :evillaugh

Now I just end up going to bed early and getting up early. I don't have a problem theoretically sticking with east coast time, although the Lethbridge contingent will ride me to no end about it.

If you get there at 8pm, cant you be in bed by 11? That should give you plenty of time to check in, eat, shower, and then hit the sack. Get up 9? 9 hours sleep should be plenty.

Try to adjust to the time difference before hand. I would start trying to adjust on Friday. Then maybe by tuesday you should be fully adjusted.

I will get there at 8pm, but it will feel like 11pm to me, and I'll be falling asleep very quickly. If I pass out by 9pm, I'd be sleeping til about 6am in Vegas time. I need to sleep til 10am, so I can play from noon til 2am without getting tired. Essentially I need to adjust the night I land somehow.

The worst is flying back east and going to work the next day.

Luckily I won't have to do that this time.

I guess a high-power caffeine trip is in my future.

Obviously we all know the answer is that from the moment you land you embark on a booze soaked evening where you remember nothing, puke on a bum, and literally roll into the poker tournament smelling like hooker perfume and looking like Ron Burgundy after being fired.

Vegas rush should keep you up for a few hours after arriving.
Target sleep time around 11-12 Vegas time.

    Enjoy.

I'm thinking you should be fine - 3 hours really isn't much.

If you are worried about it do what athletes do when they travel - when you have checked in go for a run, to the gym or pool and have a good session. eat a bit and don't drink too much.

Personally I reckon you are overthinking it. Good luck in the tournament:beer:

Off topic, but due to curiosity, which poker tournament? :)

I have an internal time clock, even when I'm in Vegas which means I'm like BeeJay. Early to bed and early to rise. Those days of allnighters are long gone for me.

Shouldn't be a problem. We usually stay up until about midnight on arrival day and then just adjust from there.

I'm hoping the rush of Vegas helps and that indeed 3 hrs won't screw me up - but it has in the past - and I really need it not to, this time :)

Captain Ron, fellow Buckeye, I'll be playing some poker at your local gambling establishment this evening, will be down for work.

If I cash six figures in the LV WSOP tournament, I am going to look you up here when we're both in LV and take you out for the best dinner you've ever had in LV, just because you'll be out there the same time I am :)

My normal daily routine is I'm up at 4:00am.

When I go to Vegas, I try to catch an early flight, so I'm usually up at the same time.

First day, I'm juiced just on adrenaline, have a bunch of errands to do through the afternoon, and then usually have no problem drinking and still staying up until 1:00 or 2:00am which means 24 hours. After that first night, I don't find I'm jet lagged at all.

The things that throw me off in Vegas are cues from the east coast - I keep my laptop on eastern time to remind me when I have to touch base back east, and occasionally put the tv on a cable news or financial channel, and that hits me because they're wrapping up for the day and it's only noon or 1:00pm.

Only thing I can suggest is stay up. Stay in the casino, play 10 cents a pull on penny slots or something. I mean, you're not going to fall asleep if you're walking around.

Flying in at night for me is one of the worst things I can do, I come from Eastern time as well, but we always get there as early as possible and run on adrenaline the first day. Its very normal for me to be up 27-30 hours that first day. I will get up at home around 430-5am to head for the airport, and chances are I wont hit the sack until 4-5am that next morning, which is 7-8am here. I rarely sleep much more than 6 hours a night, so I usually am back up around 10am and raring to go. Its Vegas, should need no pills or energy drinks, your mind and body should do that for you on wake up day! Its like Christmas morning wrapped up 100x as kid!

Flying in from the East in a few days. Always try to get the earliest flight for a few reasons.

    #1 flight backlogs
    #2 Jet lag
