This doesn't happen to me often, let me tell you, lol! I'm a red chip player and play mostly craps and roulette.

Once in a while my luck aligns well and I cash out with a bunch of purple and black chips. Although I've always went straight to the casino cage to cash them out I always wonder why they ask what table game I played and then call the pit and mention the amt. of black and purple chips I'm trying to cash in. This is at the Cal Downtown, by the way. If it's just a couple of black chips, no problem. But when there is a purple mixed in they call the pit.

What if I was in a hurry to go somewhere and didn't want to cash in immediately? Let's say I hold them for a day or two. Will the pit remember when I won them? If I tell them I won them at craps two days ago how will they verify this? Kinda dumb paranoid question, it's just that I can't figure why they would even do this. Would they deny me payment if they can't verify where I won them? I doubt it. So why do it?

Anybody with same experiences and an explanation?

I know at my local casino they do this. Every time I cash out with a couple hundred they call the pit boss. Probably just a way to track who or how many people are winning a decent amount and who isn't.

Yes they will prevent you from cashing out. At PH, I borrowed a few yellows from a friend and ended up winning a couple grand. Tried cashing out 6 yellow chips and they called the pits but would only allow me to cash out 2 of them since that's what they had in my records. It wasn't a big deal since I just returned them to my friend and he cashed them out.

You should be fine to cash out later as long as you gave them a players card when you won the chips. They should be able to see that you won them earlier and allow you to cash them out.

    They are verifying your chips.

If you cash them in the next day or so, they will have to review their security cameras.

It's a pain cashing out sometimes.

It also matters which casino you're in. I've yet to see any on the strip verify 500's, and only sometimes 1000's.

Anyone see the scene in "The Hangover" when they discover they have an $80,000 bag full of Bellagio chips? Lol

I guess I should continue my habit of going to the cage as soon as I color up.

The funny thing is one time they colored me up by giving me 10 black chips. I went to the cage and they didn't bother to call the pit. Another time I had one purple and a couple of greens. They called the pit.

    Same casino. Weird...:confused2:

There is some concern about money laundering and other sketchy exchanges of ``property.''

By law the chips belong to the casino, not you, so they can do whatever they want to verify if you won them.

I forget the casino, but I remember reading about some issue where someone was paid a debt with either a $5k or $25k chip. He tried cashing and they ended up confiscating the chip since he couldn't prove where it came from. Not sure what the final outcome was thoigh

Doesn't your place of employment have some "dumb" rules or SOP that you don't necessarily agree with, but it's company policy, so you do it, because that's your job?

You are in their house and subject to their rules.

I was at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. I left the blackjack table with three yellows one night and went straight to bed.
The next day I went to the cage to cash them in. It took a LONG time for them to pay me. I was sweating bullets until they finally paid me.
I don't hold chips any more.

I think it was a poker debt. Lawsuit affirmed that (at least in Nevada) chips remain casino property and are not transferable tender. Keeps casino from being a third party to drug deals etc.

I refuse yellow chips, I only take purples. Just because it's easier to cash. :)

I cashed in a few flags before (5k chips) immediately after playing. They had to call the pit boss right across from the cage. It took about 5 min.

I won about 2k worth of chips last week at caesars 3 purple, some black and green on a craps table. Went to bed and never cashed the chips until 2 days later, I never had any issue when I did go to the cashier, no call or anything. 2k at caesars is peanuts....

I have seen them call the tables when a player tries to cash in large chips, even at boyd properties. Actually some times when I win I just use that chip as my buy in to a table the next day or that day.

But then that is probably why I only accept black chips as the highest denomination if I win. Much easier to use or cash in.

I have experienced the cage calling the pit when I won on the strip, it was at the flamingo and I had over 3k in chips. they called the pit to verify that I won there but it was a hot table and many people won a lot that night.
