In July, the LVH is having a gaming convention that my son would like to attend. Since its been like 6 years since I have been out that way, what other hotels are within walking distance? I know it has the monorail station, but don't really want to have to rely on that... Hotels don't have to have a casino, it will be simply somewhere to sleep when we are actually there.
The Hilton Grand Vacations Club (Convention Center location) is right across the LVH parking garage. So easily within walking distance.
down the street on convention center dr is the old Greek Isles Casino, used to be Debbie Reynolds Casino as well. I believe it is now Clarion Hotel and Casino, its walking distance from LVH. Down the Road to the South is the Best Western Mardi Gras Casino as well, neither is much to talk about but they are closer than anything else.
Ditto, the car entrance to the Riviera is on Paradise, across the street is LVH. Sign up for a players card online and call and ask if there are any promotions. There is also a Spring Hill Suites on Paradise.
Thanks for the advice so far! I just found out that the Cosmo is a Marriot hotel... With the discount I can get, I may just go that route. That place looks awesome! So much has canged since the last time I was in Vegas. Otherwise, I think we just might end up at LVH. It makes sense, and it looks to have some decent suites with good space for the kid and his friend and me.
I would say http://www.mardigrasinn.com/ It's about a 15 minutes walk from LVH. I always take the monorail or a cab.
Cosmo is a great place but personally imho caters more to the 23-30 age bracket due to the mega pool and club.
Just FYI, the Mardi Gras isn't a Best Western anymore. I stayed there last year when it was a Best Western though, while a little old the rooms were big, as seen in Danny's posted web site the room contains a "private" bed area, a kitchenette type (with fridge but no stove) where you can bring in a hot plate and make your own meals (don't remember if they had any plates or utensils though, just buy or bring your own to be sure). there was also a living room area with a couch (not sure if it opens up to a bed) and chairs and a coffee table. I think the place can probably hold 3 or 4 people (or more if you want to stuff the place). From the pics it looks like they painted the rooms (hopefully). The place is a motel type so don't expect hotel service or quality IMHO. The other good thing is that you can drive right up to your door and park right in front of your room. The Mardi Gras Inn as someone mentioned is probably 15 or so minutes from the convention center but for the price it was worth the walk to the cc, during race week last year kayak searches showed it as one of the lower places available (including downtown). There is a McD's on the next block There are a few motel type places on paradise but they seem to change names regularly. I remember one motel having a sheet over the old moniker since they changed names.
If you wanna be close and spend very little. Go to eBay and purchase your rooms for $30 a night at the Clarion Hotle and Casino(formerly ther Debbie Reynolds Casino. It is less than a block from LVH in the convention center area. The bid includes all taxes. $90 bucks for 3 nights. on your dates
