On my next trip in March I'm thinking of using $1000 to take a shot at a big win on DDB. By "big win" I mean premium quads or higher.

Think chasing a few days losses on a higher than usual denomination or throwing a Hail Mary on a high limit slot and you'll get the idea.

    So I have a couple of questions for you all;

    1) Would you go for the really long shot at $5, giving only 40 spins to hit something to keep you in the hunt
OR $1/$2 for 200/100 spins respectively?

    2) What are the pay tables currently like at Monte Carlo for DDB at the various denominations?

Since I don't want to play for hours, and it is very very unlikely I will get remotely near to the "long term", Vpfree2 does not help. It doesn't list any DDB for Monte Carlo.
My gut feel is that any halfway decent pay table will do, but a better payout for straights/flushes just might keep me in the game for an extra few hands.

    What would you do?
    Any thoughts gratefully received!

I think the starting point should be deciding what you would be satisfied with. If you play at the $1 level and hit a premium quad for $800 would you feel quite satisfied, pat yourself on the back and cashout? Obviously you would have to hit aces with a kicker or a RF for a higher payout.

Think about it for $2 level. Are you satisfied now?

I think $2 level with $1000 bankroll seems right for what you are hoping to achieve. $1000 at the $5 level could disappear in a few minutes.

I have not checked at MC recently but have always viewed the place as a VP wasteland. I know you are looking for the big hit but I would still seek out a 9/6 game (10/6 is probably impossible at above $1). The higher returns for the lesser hits could be what keeps you in the game longer before you hit that $8000 RF.

Like Tubbs said, What's your magic number? What would you consider a big hit?

I would go with the $5 game for a few reasons.

First, any quad would be a big hit. And the fact that it would require a hand pay would make it a very easy stopping point.

Second, with a $5 game, you’re either going to hit something big, or be done within a half hour, in all likelihood. If you’re playing a $1/$2 game, that $1000 could easily last you all night if you have some decent luck. If you spend hour after hour playing at the higher denominations, you might just get a taste for them…

I absolutely agree with Tubbs regarding the pay tables. I don’t know what MC offers, but you shouldn’t have to go too far to find 9/6 games. And if you go with the $5 option (or even $2), there is no reason to settle for less, IMO. I’m not an expert, but I know I played $2 9/6 games at Mirage back in Nov/Dec of 2013 and I always find plenty of 9/6 games at Wynncore at $1, $2 and $5.

Have you considered the “comp implications” of your proposed endeavor? Playing a high denomination game at casinos that have no record of your “normal” play might get you some very nice “initial” offers in the hopes that you would give that property several days of that sort of action. (I’m just thinking out loud, though, I’m far from a comp expert.)

I was trying to keep the scenario simple by saying Premium Quad in my initial post.
I meant a 400 coin quad (or better) profit once I got bored of playing or the smaller hits seemed to be drying up.

If I miraculously hit that within a few hands, I would walk and try again with the original $1000 later in the trip.
If, however, I played down to almost nothing and hit a regular 250 coin quad I would keep going.

Thanks to both of you for your responses, you seem to be echoing my thoughts that $5 is just too slim a chance.

I reckon 40 deals could be easily be over in less than 2 minutes!

You could walk over to mgm and play 9/7 TDB spun poker instead. Or you could walk over to excalibur and play either 9/7 TDB or 9/6 DDB at the $5 level.

VPFree is sometimes bad for not including 9/6 DDB because some monitors are anal sticks in the mud that never report 9/6 DDB because it's 98.98%, which is so so much less than 99%. Also the strip and 10/6 DDB does not compute, so instead you see a bunch of 99.11% DB games listed that no one touches.

I always include 98.98% DDB and 98.91% Deuces when I update because I know the first game is the most popular on Earth and the second is the best deuces game you will find in a lot of places. I'll be at Monte Carlo in a week; I'll try to take a look to see if $5 DDB is there.

Spoken like a true gambler. Go big or go home. I must admit that is the attraction of the idea, but I suspect a $5 denom would wipe me out too quickly. I'd like to get a little play out of it, otherwise I would probably have a better chance on 1 hand of Blackjack or a Red/Black on the single zero roulette. That would be great if it hit, but no fun at all if it missed!

Good thought, but I suspect I would really need some luck to make enough of an impact. I've already got my usual level of play at the places I'd like to stay, so there isn't much scope there I'm afraid.

    Thanks for your input.

Thanks, that would be great if it's not too much trouble.

I'll also have a look at the other game choices too, but I've almost got DDB strategy worked out.

    Thanks.

I love DDB and play it almost exclusively......except when I'm feeling really lucky and will then venture up to TDB. Just a hint on the denomination.....I play almost all dollar denoms with a few $2 and $5 thrown in. It is pretty easy to blow through $1000 on a $1 single line game in about 45 minutes if you aren't getting any quads or many full houses. I know because I've done it more times than I care to remember.

You might want to consider triple play......money will go fast and maybe you'll luck out and get dealt a premium quad and just need a kicker or two. Good luck either way.

I actually tried this on my recent trip in January. Put a Ben in a $5 DDB at Cosmo and hit quads on the last spin. Got me the bare min for handpay. I had tried to take a stab at a couple $25 slots and finally decided to try this VP to see how it goes...totally random.

Thanks for sharing your experience on the bankroll details. That helps put the numbers into perspective.

I've dabbled with lower variance JOB at quarter level and found myself down a straight flush without much play. I don't enjoy VP enough to keep playing for long enough to claw back towards even two pairs or a triple at a time.
DDB offers the temptation of a big hit without having to commit to hours of play hoping for a Royal.

    Wow, great result.

    /Gamblers fallacy alert on/

Well, if Sindustry can do it on 4 spins surely 40 is more than enough!

    Lvmb,
If you or your spouse hasn't ever been a member at the Palms casino, I suggest taking that $1000 "shot" there...
Just sign up and ask them boothling about the "Loss Rebate"..
    1.) Go into High-Limit room
2.) Locate $5 9/6 DDB (along the back wall)
3.) Insert players club card, making sure its "validated"
    4.) Insert $1000 cash
5.) Play until your are at $0 or hit a quad.
6.) If you get to $0 go to players club and they'll give you $500 back immediately in free play.
Technically, if you come back within a year, you'll get the other $500 back...but if you were going to go for a "shot",you mayswell take a 50% rebate (or 100% if you plan to come back)

Thanks for that idea. I wasn't aware any property would be that generous with a rebate.

Spouse-less solo trip this time, but neither of us has a card there anyway.

Rebate? What do you mean rebate? Wash your mouth out!
Sounds like an extra 50% to add to the attempt to me!
The rest of it sounds like an excuse to come back, so it's a win-win all round.

The Monte Carlo has zero good DDB paytables

    I wouldn't do it

like I said, its a $1000 free "shot"...if you lose the whole $1000, they'll give you $500 back (in freeplay) right away, then $500 more after 30 days-365 days.
Just remember, you have to ASK ABOUT IT! They'll won't willingly tell you.

Palms is only two increments now?

I thought you had to come back twice to collect 3 total increments. But I would guess most of the forum would be willing to come back 2 times in a year. :evillaugh

Sorry Timspeed, I should have used an emoticon for my comment to show it was a joke. My intention was to imply I'm enough of a degenerate to use the rebate to continue the attempt rather than try to convert it to cash in a sensible way.

    Bump.

Monte Carlo does have 9/6 DDB at the $5 and $10 level across the aisle from "Score Sports Bar". I didn't have time to check the high limit room, but it might be there too. Typical VPFree2 omission.

If a casino offers 8/5 Bonus or 9/7 Double Bonus, there is a decent chance they offer 9/6 DDB. NY NY does at the $5 level at the center bar. I quickly looked there too today. They got rid of 9/6 JoB at that bar at $5.
