I'm going out to vegas in a few weeks for ufc and Venetian deep stack poker tourneys. My friend lives out there and is going to the fight with me, but rest of the week he works nights, so if I wanna go out at night I'll be on my own.

I'm staying at harrahs. My normal drinking spots w/ friends have been carnival court, piano bar, Gillies and osheas. Going out solo, I'd mayb like to just find a chill dive bar with some good IPAs on tap, good rock n roll(live or jukebox) at a respectable volume, and a chance to strike up a convo with a girl I was maybe thinking even downtown or slightly off strip would be an easier place to find this type of place. I even wouldn't mind to venture to a strip club possibly. If I did that, I'd like to go to like, what would be considered middle of the road. Not super expensive, but not way past there prime talent either

    Any suggestions?

If you're not opposed to downtown, the Chicago Brewing Company in 4 Queens has a really good (in my opinion) IPA on tap. I enjoyed drinking and playing the bar-top VP there on my last solo trip. Friendly bartenders and patrons.

every casino has several lounges and bars, as you know. Every one will be busier later in the evening.me personally, stay at a place for a drink or 2 and go to the next one till you find something worthy.

Ace, if you go downtown try The Griffin, respectable beers on tap and eclectic music playing. Dark wood/brick with vaulted ceilings and two fireplaces that burn year-round. I have noticed some college aged and older girls drinking at the bar as well as sitting around the fireplaces. Park on Fremont is across the street and has a wider selection of beer. I have never been to Park late or on a weekend but it could have a higher pick-up quotient. I have had a couple of beers with my wife at Downtown Cocktail Room and it may have everything you are looking for. We are in our early 50's and it was loud and appeared to be more of a meat market. Commonwealth could also be a good prospect.

The griffin sounds pretty cool, insert coins sounds kinda fun also. Paying cab fare from strip to downtown always sucks solo, but mayb worth it

The last time I did that, I drank the bartender at the Hofbrauhaus under the table, and then left with her...at 2 pm. Worth a shot.

I just did a first for me, I took the Deuce bus back from downtown. I lived. It honestly was not bad, I wasnt in a hurry and it took about an hour from FSE to the Luxor. This was on a Monday at 5pm, so we ran into a lot of rush hour traffic. I assume it would go faster later in the eve. $8 gets a pass that will get you there in back.

Strip/Downtown Express is preferable vs. the Deuce at most hours. Deuce makes too many stops.

During prime hours, I think it's a variable schedule for both buses (i.e. about every 15 minutes). But you're almost always better off waiting for an express if you're going all the way to Fremont or back to the Strip. The end of the schedule is more exact. The express ends at midnight at both ends. It used to be 12:30am...:grrr:

thanks for the bus info, its probably been over 8 years(and about 9 trips) since i have rode a bus in vegas. but i do like downtown and some of those bars sound ok. i can catch the express at wynn going, and if its lame, catch it on way back by midnight. if not ill have to catch the regular bus

Just go wherever you feel comfortable. Plenty of solo drinkers in Vegas. For instance, one of my best times in Vegas was when I was sitting at the bar by myself at O'Sheas at about 2AM and I started talking with some college age kids. They needed another person for beer pong and I ended up playing with them until about 6AM.

Just a FYI, if you are by yourself at a bar later at night, you probably will have working ladies starting their sales pitch on you.

Also, the bus is perfectly safe. I've taken it a few times solo with no problems. There are usually security guards/cops by the Fremont Street stop to keep riff-raff away.

I've sat at Vesper in Cosmo before many times, just struck up conversations with people who migrate there. I've done this many times and always seem to end up enjoying myself.

A word to the wise, if your a guy sitting by yourself in Vegas it is only a matter of time before you will be approached by a hooker. It happens, just say no thank you and they leave to go try someone else.

I know this is a lame answer...but I haven't found a bar I don't like.. From the Double Down during the day to the "strip club" bars, I can chill anywhere. I had a great time at the Cal's Bar between Pasta Pirate and Redwood chatting with the bartender and some folks that meandered in. Also enjoyed my visits at My Cousin Vinny's ( east Sahara) with the locals. Its all subjective but I look for off strip houses and local joints. I have had good luck over the years, but I am easy to please.. Good drink decent conversation with the bartender of the folks next to me Im fine. If I don't like the place I leave.

If I wanted to venture to a strip club, what would be a good one for a solo guy?

As Saul goodman would say " only the best with the right amount of dirty" is what I would prefer

Would go with the obvious big houses OG Sapphire Rhino. Problem is........esp with the Rhino it gets EXTREMELY crowded on Thurs thru Sat nights or with speciality events. That can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your outlook. I looked at as bad because there would be a lot of hustle and if there was a gal ya wanted, you would have to move real quick. But the talent level was real good. Would lean towards OG because ya were a bit removed but could see the dancers. Sapphires wasn't bad either in that regard.I when going used sit by the bar and watch and got a view of the dancers who interested me BEFORE I got a dance....UNLESS there was a gal that blew me away that approached me at he bar that I just COULDNT resist .But esp in the strip clubs with the gals YMMV. One thing for sure.......bring some serious $$$$. The cover and the drinks are "pricey" to say the least.. unless ya get there before the cover charge starts.

I should add..... I always had good luck in the afternoons at Cheetah's. Girls were VERY friendly and would hang with ya and A LOT less hustle. But downside is that weren't that many or outstanding quality. Bu I always found gals to spend some time with w/o a zillion people there or extreme hustle. But once again here as well YMMV.
