People are free to do whatever they want with this online here,I wouldnt touch it but I'm sure plenty of people are into it and I wish them luck.
And an "escort" was raped recently by a career criminal from Jersey at the Cosmo.
Just shows you the class of people you can meet even in a classy place like that.

 

Online gambling, just like regular casino gambling (and alcohol consumption for that matter) is all a matter of self-control. Like most men and women out there, I am a responsible adult, so I know when to stop an activity before it becomes self-destructive. Some people don't know how to handle themselves and they get themselves into trouble, but whose fault is that? People need to take responsibility for themselves. I enjoy online gambling, because it allows me to have some fun when I can't get away for a couple days to go to a casino resort. As long as the person playing isn't a loser of some kind, everything is fine.

Since I live in VA and only get to casino gamble every couple of months or so, I play the ponies online. But I only play small stakes- .50 tri boxes and .10 super boxes mostly. It's fun to handicap, and cheap. I agree that if someone is prone to excessive behavior, they will find something to abuse...

 

I agree. The reality of it, as I see it, is that the effect of people getting into trouble is them not paying credit card balances which falls on the rest of us by receiving higher interest rates to cover their delinquency.

Where I live, child support payments are payroll deducted. It helps eliminate delinquent payments, unnecessary casework, and eventual court proceedings. I would like to see this kind of program for bankruptcies (sp), especially for gambling debts, because the effects of it affect the community as a whole.

The concept behind "Click your mouse and lose your house" is actually quite wrong and the opposite of reality:

-> Online casinos/poker sites do not extend any form of credit so you can only wager with either money you already have or credit you already have

-> Physical casinos, like The Venetian and Palazzo, do grant credit to players.

Because of casino credit it would actually be easier to get in to debt beyond one's means than it would be through maxing out your credit cards by gambling online.

Online gambling is now legal in NJ for NJ residents only. When you sign up you have to download a location services program to verify that your computer is physically in NJ. CET, Borgata, Golden Nugget, tropicana and Trump all have websites. I've tried a few of them and they basically all suck. They rushed these to market after the law passed and there are tons of technical glitches. I've encountered so many bugs and glitches and it was so frustrating to try and play that I just withdrew the money I had deposited.

I play VP and the options are very limited. They only have IGT single line jacks or better, bonus poker, double bonus, and double double bonus. The problem is that the IGT software doesn't work on any of the sites, so you can't play. There are some generic VP games available that are just ok, but they don't look like any of the machines at the casino. The Caesars website is the only one where you can play multi-line VP, but it's one of those weird generic versions. I might come back to this in 6 months or a year when the technical difficulties have hopefully been fixed.

 

Why is this group of gamblers so anti-internet? I'd perform a Google search to learn more about their positions on the matter, but presumably they don't have a web site.

Is the original purpose of this thread to indicate that any type of onLine gambling is illegal?
Is this only in the US or does this even include sites outside the US?

 

Sheldon is the owner of Venetian Palazzo. He is definitely not anti-gambling but rather anti non bricks and mortar gambling or anti internet gambling if he isn't the owner / operator.

Sort of like if Borders and Barnes & Noble lobbied against Amazon.

I worked at Arlington Park in the late 1980s when they asked employees to where Casino buttons to protest against riverboat gambling which eventually became law a few years later. They are now seeking casino wagering at the track.

You earn tier credits and reward credits for online play for most casinos in NJ. I've been racking up Total Rewards comps for my online play which I used for free meals and free drinks at a CET casino this past weekend in Atlantic City. Total Rewards also offered me a free weekday night and free show tickets at Harrah's AC due to my online play. It's smart because it encourages new players starting out with online gaming to also come to the brick and mortar casinos.

 

Its mainly about online gambling.

Some US states have already legalized online poker and New Jersey has legalized most gambling for online.

Nevada is one of the states that has legalized online poker and Sheldon Adelson (the guy who owns The Venetian and Palazzo) is in the "extremely against any online gambling" camp.

Basically he is now just campaigning to have it overturned.

Its all under the guise of the people need protecting, with the two main arguments being: people could get so far in debt and possibly lose their house and home, and kids could gain access to gamble online.

The reality: he owns a casino and wants to protect his bottom line.

For the "people could get so far in debt" aspect of it: online sites don't give out credit, casinos do.

For the "kids could be gambling" part: online sites are pretty strict and have a lot of loopholes to prove who you are whereas at a casino you might be able to get by with a fake ID but often they don't even check. But also with The Venetian and Palazzo they were the ones that brought the portable gaming terminals to Las Vegas that will allow people to gamble in the room, at a restaurant, etc. While kids might not be able to go get a unit in the casino they can have somebody go get them one and then do all the gambling in the privacy of their room.

So its really all about protecting his bottom line.

No sarcasm was intended in my response (but the word where s/h/b wear). Can't get into it further based on board rules, but Sheldon is the main reason why the Venetian Palazzo are the only two casinos on the Strip I have never stayed at.

 

I meant my first post (I.e. The gamblers against the internet...) was intended as sarcasm.
