So I have a trip booked for June where I am comped at MGM for 4 nights. I'm debating adding 2 extra days to the beginning of my trip. I wanted to stay at cosmo, but they want $500 each night midweek and I would much rather spend that money gambling. I have never gotten a players card at either Venetian or Wynn so I don't have any offers from either nor have I spent much time in either casino. So this is a 2 part question, which do you guys suggest going with Venetian/Palazzo or Wynn/Encore. Second part of the question is which hotel of each pair is the better choice to stay in.

Background about me(so hopefully you can see which hotel suits me best):
    -31 years old
-will probably spend a little time at the pool but not too concerned about it.
-Drink a lot which I do a good part of while gambling.
-Dining: planning on going solo for this part of the trip so dining choices will be quick bites but not fast food and sitting at a bar.
Gambling: 30-50% slots and VP. Rest of the time at table (BJ- starting $25 but push up to $100 a hand at times // 3card poker / LIR $10-25 each spot // craps $10-15 pass line with odds and usually 2xcome bets)

    Hotels:
Venetian/Palazzo ~$150 a night which I will likely book through their website and hope they comp part of it in the end.
Wynn/Encore: ~$210 a night if I book through southwest airlines. So I'll charge food to the room in hopes that they pick it up at the end of the trip. (Wynn website wants $280 a night for the same room).

Or I can just skip both and stay at flamingo for $50 a night or Downtown for under $50 a night.

I'm counting on the wealth of knowledge on this board to help me decide... thanks in advance.

Since you will be solo for these 2 nights I would just go cheap and use the cash you would have spent on a room at Wynn/Venetian on gambling. $500 for a weeknight at the Cosmo is insane. Personally I prefer Wynn to Venetian (which is also good) but I wouldn't spend the money on either of those places if I was going to be there by myself.

I like Wynn a lot more than V/P, but based on the factors you listed, there is not a lot of difference. IMO, Wynn has a much better pool than V/P and somewhat better restaurants. If those two factors are more important to you, go with Wynn. If they are not really important, you can't go wrong either way

I would say Wynn based on your age and desire to use the pool.

Some thoughts, based on the info you’ve offered…

31 years old: While neither of these properties is a Cosmo or Planet Hollywood, the Wynncore crowd is a fair bit younger than the V/P crowd.

Pool: I’m not much of a “pool guy” in Vegas, so I can’t speak from personal experience. But I’m guessing this is a win for Wynn.

Drink a lot while gambling: If you tend to play a lot of bartop VP, then V/P is best for you as Wynncore does not comp drinks while at the bartops (they do throughout the casino, though). If most or all of your gambling is done at the tables or on slot/VP machines on the floor, then I’d say Wynncore is the winner. I’ve found their cocktail service to be quicker than V/P and the drinks tend to be larger, stronger and served in nicer glasses.

Dining: This is a clear win for Venetian/Palazzo. I don’t think any place in Vegas can hold a candle to V/P when it comes to restaurant choices.

Gambling: Wynn gets the nod here. VP paytables are better, 6 Deck, S17, RSA, DAS blackjack available at $50 and sometimes $25 (usually $100-200+ at V/P) and low minimum BJ is 6 Deck vs. 8 Deck at V/P (yeah, yeah, I know it’s hardly worth worrying about…). Craps is decent at both properties and you should be able to find $10-15 tables at all but the busiest times of the year.

Of the V/P pair, I prefer Palazzo. It’s newer. The casino is less crowded and easier to navigate, IMO. And the restaurants I prefer are there. Wynn would be my choice if you’re going that route. Here’s a recent thread comparing the two: https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102054

I’m an unabashed Wynncore fanatic, so that would be my choice. But I think for you, it’s more of a toss-up. I guess it depends on which of your criteria are most important.

Thanks guys for the help. It looks like Wynn will be the way to go if I add the extra nights. Carve your writeup in that link was especially helpful.

Save your money for gambling and stay at Flamingo. With that being said, I am going to buck the trend and say V/P if you want to stay at the North end. We do not like Wynncore one bit, for a lot of reasons, but have been very happy at the Venetian.

I love Venetian. I stayed a few months ago and was blown away by the amount of stuff to do, we barely left the hotel at all! I've stayed before but it had been a while. I liked the casino. The rooms are huge. You might wanna pick Palazzo, the rooms are a little newer. Also their casino seems bigger.

Never stayed at Wynn, and would love to. But every single time I'm in there, it's dead as a door nail. Nobody gambling, barely any diners. Not very exciting! But I think the luxury is a step up from the Venetian.

You can't really go wrong with either. But just remember, at both properties, everything is expensive (food, drinks, shopping...) Wynn even more so.

Heads up you can usually get either of those properties on Hotwire or Priceline, just look for Strip North WITH a casino and you'll get V or P or Wynn or Encore 100%. Might save you some money, and then the internet can decide for you haha.

I prefer the V/P over the Wynn although the rooms might be a tad nicer at Wynncore, and their sheets are amazing :)

I find the food options at Wynn to be overpriced, but I love all the dining options at V/P at every price point.

I am also not a fan of the young drunken party crew at Wynncore or the noise from the party pool, although I am somewhat older than you.

I have also found V/P to be more generous with offers for the last couple of years.

Wynn is nice but I feel at home at the Palazzo or Venetian.
