Is there anything at these places for us?

My two brothers and I are girding up our loins for the 2nd Annual March Madness Gambling and Drinking and Eating Extravaganza.

We go for 5 nights over the first weekend of the tournament and we usually spend our days moving about the strip, gambling, drinking, eating, and checking in on the games. We don't settle in to one particular place for too long. We enjoy roaming around. We will go downtown one afternoon.

    My question is this-

Is there anything at these off strip casinos that would appeal to us? I have heard the names Sams Town, South Point, and assorted others, but know nothing about them.

We have been to Rio once, and were impressed with the drink service. Our booze soaked high school educations quickly deduced that they keep the spirits flowing to keep people from wandering over to the strip. We could be wrong. Like I said, high school...

Do these places have shuttles? Is there anything appealing in the way of gambling or drinking or eating that should draw us in for a day or half day visit?

Depends on what age group you and your friends are in. Those places tend to cater to an "older" crowd, the locals may hang there, are more "laid back", and you won't be chasing any tail in there for sure.

If you like to party, drink, and hang on the strip; and are much younger than I, then I would say no, it's not for you.

You could also just go and say "been there, done that". Then you would know for sure if those places interest you.

Those places do have shuttles, but they usually run to the fashion show mall or one of the outlets, so you have to catch one there. Also, some of those shuttles are for guests of each hotel only, so you may not be able to get a free ride out.

We have had some of our best fun off strip. We now typically split each trip, especially the summer trips. The key for us is we take our own party with us. Off strip is primarily locals, so the vibe can be a little bit diff. We roughly spend less than half the amount of money on food and drinks and get the same if not better quality on both. The rooms are practically free and are free if you gamble even a bit compared to the strip.

I like M Resort. Its very nice, not your typical off strip place and well worth a visit.

Also Silverton is one of my must stop places because they have a giant Bass Pro Shops inside the casino or at least attached to it. Of course if bass pro isnt your thing then you might think its a waste but i love it.

I would say skip all off-strip except maybe Palms and Orleans.
Palms because it's like a strip joint, that's not on the strip.
Orleans because it's Boyd's offering that's "closest" to a strip joint vibe.
All the rest are mostly older crowds and angry locals who shouldn't be gambling there last dollar.

I absolutely agree... especially the last line! I'm gonna throw in the Hard Rock here too for selfish reasons (I like it) and the fact that no "March Madness Gambling and Drinking and Eating Extravaganza" should be complete without a visit to the HRH.

I disagree. Many offstrip joints run rings abound the strip casinos when it comes to drink service. That alone makes it worth it to hang out with Vegas grannies. They are also traditionally more competitive on the games they offer. M Resort is one that I think would be up your alley with the craft beer they offer. I also noticed the Silverton does a lot of drink promotions.

There is a lot to offer at most off strip locations. We stay exclusively at off strip properties. Like many have said, the Orleans is a great property. It would fit in on the strip for vibe and size. They also offer free rooms for very little coin in. We went there once for an afternoon several years ago and have not stopped getting offers since.

We love the M Resort also, but it is a much different vibe. But it would also fit in with strip properties on the higher end. The drawback there is it is quite a ways from the strip, we always have a car so no problem for us. It is also somewhat quiet during the day, but gets going pretty good at night.

Both properties have a strip shuttle.

I hear ya, I hear ya and I would agree about the M as well. Perhaps I read too much between the lines of the OP's post. I see this as a group of crazy, "lamp-shade on the head", cocktail poundin' type guys out to take Vegas by storm and though you'll see some better VP pay-tables, etc. off strip... I'm guessing' they're not into a beehive hairdo server named Madge who listens to Bobby Darin on the AM radio over at the Gold Coast or South Point. :poke:

Well, I know that the 32 draft bar at the M is a great place to drink!
The CWs at the M are super hot & always great.

You nailed it there! No, seriously I am 40 and my brothers are in their 30s. We drink our share of beer and have been chased out of Wynn and Twin Peaks (see my posts about last year's MM trip). If a place has a solid craft beer selection it may be reason enough for us to make the trek. Also, my mother had the most righteous beehive hairdo of anyone in all of the 1960s. If my waitress wears a beehive I will tip her generously.

You guys sound like drinkers and gamblers to me. I would say Sam's Town hands down of the ones you mentioned. For sure the Orleans or Gold Coast if you want something strip adjacent. If you go downtown try the Fremont or the California. All of these are owned by Boyd Gaming. All of their properties have great food and drinks for cheap. They also have excellent pay tables and a great players club.
