How are the rooms at the Riviera these days? We're doing some early planning for a guys trip later this year.

Will there always be 3/2 BJ at $10 limits?

How close is the nearest bus stop to the Riv?

I know circus circus is across the street but how far is the Wynn complex for walking (and by proxy the rest of the strip)?

Honestly, i'm trying to talk my friends into staying downtown (i'm more of a downtown guy) but I think one of my friends will be set on staying on the strip. I know some will say the Riv isn't really on the strip anymore but......

As best as I know, you want rooms in the Monaco Tower. Those really are nice rooms and vastly better than most of the other towers. You can walk to the Wynn in five minutes or so. From the moment you lock your door behind you to the moment you're standing in the Wynn is ten minutes grand sum total.

I believe there is a bus stop right out front of the the Riv if I remember right. There is also a Wax bus stop down on Spring mill at corner of TI, will take you right downtown if you dont want to use the deuce. Also dont forget, you have the greatest restaurants in Vegas right next door imho, The Peppermill! Enormous portions and a pretty cool bar side if you just want drinks. Love that place, Riv is a fun place to hang out at!

Yes, there is a bus stop right outside the Riv and on the other side of the street in front of Circus Circus.

I took the Wax bus last year and there was no stop on Spring Mill by TI. The only place it stopped at/near the strip was on Tropicana Blvd. near MGM and NYNY going north and by the Tropicana going south.

Great info thank you. I couldn't remember how far the Wynn was but we're all in decent shape so 5 or 10 minutes is great.

Thank you both for the bus information. I'm guessing we'll eat the 24 hour pass at least a couple of days.

I've always wanted to try the Peppermill! Thanks for the reminder that it's so close. It's been on my to do list for several of my trips, I've always failed at checking that one off the list however.

Peppermill is basically a better version of that one awesome greasy spoon joint in <wherever you live>. You won't be disappointed.

Cant give any info about the rooms but Encore is a 10 minute walk away and 15 minutes to Wynn. Peppermill is a good spot as other have mentioned and Tacos el Gordo is another hidden gem if you like mexican food.

I stayed in the San Remo tower, the room was clean and nothing special, it reminded me of an older Holiday Inn. A colleague stayed in the Monaco tower, his room was nicer. As for BJ, they had a few $10 tables with 3:2 rules. Drink service was good. They also have all day specials in the lobby bar, $2 well drinks, $3 call drinks. The Wicked Vicky pub had a great microbrew selection.

The Deuce bus stop is right in front and the 108 stop is near the rear entrance on Paradise, this will take you to the airport. I would also recommend the Circus Circus steak house across the street, +1 for Tacos el Gordo and Peppermill.

Perfect, thank you for the information! Easy 3/2 BJ at all times is a must for me. I won't stay at any place that doesn't offer it around the clock. With the bus out front and clean rooms, it sounds like it will be exactly what we're looking for.

Circus circus steak house is another place that I've always heard good things about.

I liked it because the entrees include a salad, vegetable of the day and potato, most steak houses are a la carte so you will pay extra for these.

Also, the SDX bus stop is a short walk behind the Peppermill and through a parking lot to Convention Center Blvd. and the LVH is a short walk out the rear entrance.

Minimal play will get you some offers as well. The Riviera is a lower tier property with a lot of history and for a guys trip, it would be perfect, no pretensions here.

Like I said earlier, I'm really a downtown guy so this sounds like it's pretty close to that experience. I'm mostly just a gambler so all the extra fluff isn't really for me.

The fancy steak houses always kill me, $60 for a steak and you can't even throw in a .50 baked potato? Aye carumba!

Are reservations required or can we just walk in? We'll be there during the week if it matters.

I hope joshrocker doesnt mind but I have a couple of questions about Riviera too -

    1) How is their wifi speed? Do they also have wired internet connections in the rooms?

    2) I know big action will get a lot of attention there but what about smaller action like bets in the 100-500 range? Can you play that amount and not have them pester you about getting rated?

    3) Is the casino very dead or does it get busy at any time?

Stayed at the Riv on my last trip. Didn't play all that much, just some slots and a little bit of BJ and Roullette and got a ton of offers that were decent. Casino is kinda slow but the bar was very lively due to the great drink specials.

Wynn is an easy walk and circus circus has a stop on both bus routes. Room was the definition of average, just your run of the mill hotel room which was fine for our needs on this particular trip. WIFI was average, not the fastest and certainly not the slowest I have had. Wicked Vicky has a very good beer selection.

Overall the Riv is a great place to sleep and drink but I much prefer the atmosphere at other casinos. I do like playing BJ there due to the amount of 3/2 tables and like I said earlier the drink specials crush anything else on the strip. Also drink service while gambling was second only to Encore on our last trip.

The steakhouse menu is available online, I had the porterhouse and it was pretty awesome. We had a table that was against a railing overlooking the grill, a cocktail and a bottle of wine, it was a memorable experience. After dinner we hit a great BJ table, it was so much fun I didn't realize it was 6:5 until an hour in.

I would make a reservation just in case, even during the week and there was a good crowd. You can use open table to reserve, and there is an app for that. Very convenient and you can always cancel or modify if plans change.

I don't think the rooms have a hard wired connection, it was wifi and slower than my fios at home, but adequate. There is a McDonalds across the street with free internet and great $1 breakfast burritos.

During football season, the Wicked Vicky pub had a special, 10 wings and a pitcher of craft beer for $15 during NFL games. I had a pitcher Dogfish Head all to myself as my colleague didn't drink draft beer. The wings were passable, but this is a great value.

As for betting in the $100-200 range, I don't think you will get pestered for a rating, but I was playing at a $25 or a $10 table. $500 might get the pit boss' butt cheeks to pucker up. They had two $1 tables. One of the cocktail waitresses at the Riviera was a mature woman with perfectly coiffed hair, looked like she was there since Sinatra played in the showroom. A classy broad that made an impression on me.

I just found out the Riv has double bed in their 2 bed rooms.....that might be a deal breaker since there will be 3 of us and we'll have to share a bed.

Am I right in thinking that double beds will be to small for 2 grown adults who don't want to....uh....touch while they're sleeping?

Double bed falls between a single and a queen, and my wife and I crowd each other on a queen.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. We used to have a queen bed and we were always uncomfortable. Ahhh I love the king bed. I think the Riv is sadly out for us.

It's really a common practice for hotels to put full extra long mattresses in rooms. In some cases they even call them queens which is miss leading. The difference between a queen and a full is 6 inches. A queen is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. The full would be 54 inches wide x 75 inches long. Now it may or may not be a full extra long. Which would make it the same length as a queen. You might want to check and see if they can give you a roll away for one of your friends.

    Riviera Rooms

A rollaway may be your answer but as stated earlier - the Monaco tower has the nicest rooms.
