Could those of you with downtown experience help me decide between staying at The Plaza or The D? Just talking about the rooms...I'm familiar with the casinos and bars/restaurants. Rates are very similar...but have never stayed in either. Where would you stay?

We had a small group of three couples that stayed at the Plaza and everyone thought it was great. Check in was easy and Figi at the desk was a lot of help. Don't try to check in too early as there is a fee. All the elevators in the south tower were working and service was fast.
The rooms were clean and the beds were firm but not hard. Bathroom is small but what are you going to do in there that takes a lot of room? Maid service was good especially if you talk to them and tell them what you want and like. Always leave a tip..Enjoy your trip

If choosing between those two and only those. I would have to say the D.

I would probably pick the Plaza just because it's quieter than the D. Half the rooms @ the D are over the stage on the west side, so it's noisy for hours in the evening, even past midnight. I like to relax in the room for an hour or two in the late afternoon-early evening before hitting the casinos, so a quiet room is of great importance to me. That explains why I usually stay at the California!

I prefer the Plaza...I like the room cold and they have great AC. Plus I really think the Plaza sportsbook is the best going and less than a minute from the room to book. Good Tv's and lots of channels on them, and I stay south tower and have no problems with street, hall or room noise.

    Plaza

I've stayed at both within the last year and its the Plaza all the way. Quieter for sure, friendly staff, nice rooms and I've had big wins the last 2 visits there. I like a quieter, more open casino and like I said, I've won more money from there than any other place downtown.
The D's room were good but I don't like the casino floor. Too packed with machines and tables and low ceilings. And the EXCESSIVELY LOUD music. Can't play at any table when you can't hear the dealer or your buddies without screaming!
Plus the Plaza is normally cheaper.

Plaza all the way. Too noisy at the D and crabby bartenders upstairs.

I'm a a big fan of the Plaza, nice rooms and great staff. Plaza x10! Only thing I love about the D is Sigma Derby!

I stayed at both mlk weekend

I like them both and it is a toss up for me. The main negative about the plaza is the bathroom as the toilet is right by the door and shower, not a lot of room at all. The d is the slow elevators and noise at night if you facing fremont street. I have no problems with either and usually the prices are close with the main difference how close you want to be to fremont

    Plaza

Agree that Plaza bathroom layout is not ideal, but otherwise the Plaza is superior to the D as a hotel choice.

Many of us do like the rooms at the Plaza but unfortunately don't like the gaming, we may stay at the Plaza but play elsewhere. Maybe you should open up a discussion thread on how the Plaza and lvc can be improved to get the players back into the casino and on the tables and machines.

One comment I made previously (and still find at the Plaza) is the "indifferent" attitude I find with the crew at the Plaza. They don't seem very friendly and watching from the side they seemed to make fun of the players (after the players left the craps table). I was thinking of playing but after seeing their attitude I refused to play there when I stayed there. Sorry

Imagine this on the Plaza marquee, or on a banner in front of the property:
"Guaranteed Available - 24/7 - Two-deck blackjack, with DAS, $10 minimums! Plaza Pays 3:2 on all Blackjacks!"
Then, the floor staff would just have to be prepared to open additional tables as each existing one fills up. Pull dealers off of the empty Super Fun 21 table, or the empty Let it Ride table.

(PS - that's a good "problem" for any casino to have.)

good to see plaza getting positive feedback. Will be staying there during EDC weekend (escaping the insane rates everywhere else). Will be my first time actually staying @ downtown.

Curt, You were looking for ideas to improve the gaming action at the Plaza. Take this suggestion to management ands see if they would try it for 90 days and see what happens. There are always enough BJ players that don't know how to play that this might liven things up...

They have all this at the plaza perhaps you haven't looked or maybe they only recently added but they have 9/6 JOB I played last month. At the vegas club they have even better games I think they're the best machines (there's 3 of them) downtown but don't quote me on it.

Thanks for all of the input! Great info as always from this board. We have booked The Plaza for the downtown portion of our trip! Looking forward to checking it out!
