I have seen this discussed before but I just wanted some guidance. I have never stayed at either and I have a comp for Wynn which will allow either Wynn or Encore rooms. I am sure they are the basic rooms. Is the noise from club a big deterrent from taking the Encore room which is a little larger or would you stay with Wynn? How do the rooms compare with Venetian/Palazzo Rooms? I have Wynn booked now. Thanks Joe K
I have stayed at both properties and didn't really notice a significant issue with the club noise. I know people have complained about that in the past, so maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never had a problem with it. The Encore is a good place if you're looking for a smaller, more quiet casino. Both casinos do a good job of keeping out the riffraff. The casino at Wynn is much larger, and is more lively. The only thing I didn't like about the Encore was I felt like it took forever to walk anywhere from there. You can obviously take a cab, but that gets pricey after a while. The rooms at Encore are slightly larger than Wynn. Both hotels have very nice restaurants. Having stayed at both places, my vote would be for the Wynn. This is mainly due to the vibe and proximity to other places. Rooms at the Palazzo and Venetian are comparable. It's just a matter of personal preference. Just my two cents.
Agree with Mizzou, not a whole lot of difference. The rooms are comparable, the Encore casino is quieter but that doesn't really matter as you can go there if you stay at Wynn. And yes Wynn is a bit closer to the other casinos. If I had to choose I'd stay at Wynn.
The nightclub noise does not keep me from staying at Encore, but it is something I consider. The south-facing rooms get the “thump-thump” of the bass until the wee hours. It has never been so bad as to keep me from sleeping (I just put the TV on low and that mostly drowns out the bass), but it is a bit of an annoyance you wouldn’t expect from a hotel where everything else is fantastic. Since the “loud” rooms are the ones with the better view (facing south looking down the strip), most folks who either don’t know about the noise or don’t care ask for the better view. So, you can usually get a quiet room just by asking (ask for “north-facing” or just “quiet” room…they’ll know what you mean). However, the last few times I’ve had to wait until one became available (I usually arrive an hour or two before check in). It has taken until 6 pm for the quiet room to be available. I don’t know if this is a result of more people becoming aware of the noise issue or just higher occupancies in general. But there is the chance that you will be stuck in a loud room. My personal preference is for Wynn anyway. While the rooms are a bit smaller, they are still bigger than about any standard room on the strip other than Encore and V/P. And I like the recent renovation they’ve done to them and the fact that they are very open and allow the sunlight into the entire room. Plus, I prefer the Wynn property in general. The casino is bigger and has more energy, as well as having better BJ rules and VP paytables. While I do enjoy the quiet and calm of Encore’s casino, I find that more often than not, I’d rather have the energy of Wynn’s. Plus, Wynn is a bit closer to the rest of the strip. (If you are planning on watching a lot of sports, Encore is the place to be, IMO. While the sportsbook is at Wynn, it is the only place to watch a game. Encore has several bars with plenty of big TVs.) As far as the rooms vis-à-vis Venetian/Palazzo…Encore’s are roughly the same size as V/P and Wynn’s are probably about 10-20% smaller. At Encore, there is a half wall between the bedroom and living area and the TV sits on top of it (the TV swivels so you can watch in either room). So, it provides a bit more separation between the two “rooms” than those at V/P, but does not offer much more privacy. Wynn's rooms are just large rooms but are big enough to have a sitting area that doesn't make you feel like you're in the bedroom (if that makes sense). The rooms at Venetian and Palazzo are quite nice. But in terms of the condition the rooms are in and the quality of materials used, the rooms at both Wynn and Encore are far superior, IMO. This is especially true of Wynn as the rooms were renovated a few years ago and still look brand new (to me, anyway). You really can't go wrong. But if you're a very light sleeper or have any mobility issues and/or really like to casino-hop, I'd definitely recommend Wynn. Otherwise, I think it comes down to which property you think you'll spend more time in.
Thanks Everyone. Carve I see we will be out there at the same time. I am usually at the craps table wearing a Arkansas Razorback cap and I look a lot like my avatar. Joe K
If you are really concerned about the noise, book a Wynn Tower Suites room that faces north. It's as far away from the clubs as you can possibly get and the rooms are fantastic.
Wynn/Encore I have stayed at both properties and I really like both. I have stayed at Encore and liked how quiet it was comparative to other hotels. I felt like I was really at a resort at Encore. Stayed at Palazzo not too long ago and felt the rooms were comparable to Encore. Liked location better but again was a busier hotel. I guess it depends what you really are looking for.
I'll keep my eye out for you...see if we can't make some money rolling them bones! (You're not one of those dark siders, are you?) -Kyle
Kyle: I am not a darksider. I will pm you after I get there and if we meet up it would be nice to meet someone from the board. JK
I've stayed at both properties and I much prefer the Wynn because I do all my gambling (poker and sportsbook) in the Wynn casino. It seems like it takes forever to walk back to the Encore if I need to run back to the room for something.
