Diamond Suite at MC - Review

Just wanted to give a kind of quick review as I had almost no luck finding info about these rooms. Also to give my opinion of MC as it seems there's not a lot of love for this place on this board.

I had only walked through the MC once a couple of years ago, prior to this visit. That was an early August trip and when we walked through during that afternoon, there was almost nobody in the casino.

We stayed in a Diamond Suite the week of Halloween. When we were checking in, the guy at the desk said initially said the room was offline. When I asked about it, he said that it only meant that the room was supposed to be refreshed very soon at a point that it wasn't rented out. He said they'd had a refresh in the plans but hadn't been able to get it going because they'd been consistently at or near capacity.

The Diamond Suite is an actual two-room suite with a door closing off the bedroom.

The living room has a half-bath a bar with a refrigerator, sink and plenty of cabinet space. It also has a Keurig coffee maker. I think that they're supposed to supply two k-cups and 2 bottles of water a day, but we got 4 per day (I should probably note that we leave a tip each day).

There is also a coach, chair, coffee table, a large armoire holding a flat screen television and a table with chairs.

The one thing really missing in this area is a microwave.

The bedroom has a desk, a table with another flat screen television along with the king-sized bed and bedside tables.

The bathroom has a very large jacuzzi tub (large enough for two people) and a shower. There are two sinks. The toilet is not in a separate water closet, if that is important to you.

The whole setup is quite spacious and perfect for being able to spread out and relax. Having a separate room is nice if one of you is sleeping in and the other wants to read or watch tv.

I will say that there is some wear and the rooms are definitely ready for a refresh, though the housekeeping staff does keep it very clean. I didn't notice if the coach had a coach bed in it, but the coach itself was worn. The bed was comfortable. Not as good as Encore, but definitely better than Rio, where we've stayed the last couple of years.

Internet access was pretty slow. The wired connection actually plugged into a wireless unit that did not work. A call down and a guy came up and fixed things very quickly. The connection was okay for checking email. If you need more than that, you'll want to find a different solution.

We got a good deal on the room, but had booked several months prior. That was probably a good idea because the hotel appeared to be quite crowded that week. The casino was pretty busy the entire week.

Since this was during football season, finding a place to watch the Cowboys was a big priority for me. Wanting to watch in the Pub, I talked to a couple of people on Saturday and found that it had been very crowded during college football on Saturday and was advised to get there early on Sunday. We got there about 30 minutes before it opened, so were near the front of what turned out to be a pretty decent line for tables. We were able to get a good table near the big screen, where the game was to be showed. They have an all you can eat brunch buffet and an all you can drink buffet as well. You can get both for a little bit of a discount. The food wasn't particularly inspiring, but was okay. The all you can drink thing is a subset of the drink menu. It includes a few beers, mimosas, bloody marys or just vodka.

We tried the cafe late one evening. The food was not great, but was good. The service was friendly, but fairly slow. We also tried the buffet for breakfast. It was not crowded at the time we went and food was okay. Since we used a two-for-one coupon from MyVegas, it was a good value. What they didn't have that I wanted was iced tea. The food court is not inspiring, but you can get full for a reasonable amount.

All in all, we found the MC to be a good value. We were looking for some space to relax in, but a fairly energetic casino area.

Unfortunately, there is no venue there for dancing. Our preferred venues for boot scooting are a little far for walking in boots and/or heels, so we'll likely stay further North on the strip, though I wouldn't mind staying at MC again, perhaps to try out Hotel32.

I hope this info is helpful to somebody that wants to stay at MC and specifically in a Diamond Suite.

Thanks for the post. I knew they were getting worn but we have one booked for April anyways. From the pics/videos that I found they seem to be the same size as the Harrahs executive suite and set up similar...except Harrahs doesn't have the 1/2 bath and H's whirlpool tub is smaller. Price is in line with Harrahs also. What was your view? From the room 77 site it seemed like they all were in the back of the hotel...aka no strip views, which seem to be only Spa suites. We don't care about fancy we just like comfortable. 2 rooms, living room, empty fridge = our idea of comfortable. A mark on the rug or wall doesn't bother me...thousands of people have stayed in your hotel room before you. Hoping the internet isn't too terrible...the dh uses it for work everyday on vacation. He doesn't mind a wired connection as long as it works...he has something he plugs into his laptop that makes the whole room a hotspot for tablets, phones etc. We have always liked the MC as far as dining and playing. I hear they are redoing the rooms this year...which in Vegas speak means...the room rates will be higher next year I am just hoping that the construction noise isn't bad around the property...we rent a car and so will be going in and out often.

Mrs. Wilson and I have a reservation for a Diamond Suite in late July. Hopefully the refreshing of these rooms will be completed by then.

 

Our view was South and West. We could see the back of NYNY (roller coaster) on south and across the interstate. It was nothing to get excited about, but was better than rooms I've had that faced right out onto a roof and AC units. Since it doesn't have the floor to ceiling windows anyway, it didn't seem to matter that much that the view isn't "good".

We heard no sounds, whatsoever from the construction in front of either MC or NYNY. I don't know how they're going to be doing the room refresh. I've been in a hotel that had such a refresh going on and there was noise from workers and power tools during the day that totally hosed sleeping in (we were on the same floor as the rooms being refreshed). Hopefully, MC will handle this better than the hotel I was at (it was not Vegas).

 

My experience is that Housekeeping is very good to those who tip and will leave what every you ask for. Apparently there may not even be a need to ask, LOL.

This suite was refreshed since the first one I was in. All the furniture was in good shape, but the sofa/bed was the same as before so that was not new although almost everything else was. Yes, a sofa/bed.

The refresh made it a much warmer, more pleasant stay than the one in 2010. During my first stay, the windows were filthy, but they did open 2 inches. For my stay in May, the windows were actually clean and they continue to be openable. Although the spa is huge, I find the shower to be tiny, making it difficult to reach my feet. As for the internet, mine was OK. At first I plugged into the connection at the desk in the bedroom, but that turned out not to be connected to anything at all, so I went wireless and it was a usable connection with no real issues. The Diamond Suite I was in faced the pool. IMO, these Suites have a good value for what you get provided you get in on sale at least 20% off. For full price, you can do better.

 

Are the Diamond Suites near the elevator banks?

 

Yes, the Monaco, Spa and Diamond Suites are all closest to the elevator banks.

Forgot one interesting fact. Hopefully it was just our suite. I woke early one morning and went to the half bath so as not to disturb the wife. The top of the tank sits too far forward to allow the heavy toilet seat to stay upright. I lifted the lid and it immediately fell back. It is heavy enough that it banged really loudly against the porcelain, waking her up.
