What doesn't trigger a gaming day at CET and MGM?

I've read posts on here about how using your TR card starts a gaming day at CET and MGM and will hurt your comp offers if you don't gamble but just stop into the casino and swipe your card for something.

What doesn't start a gaming day at either CET or MGM? Does using the seven star or diamond lounge start one or how about using priority valet or priority lines for buffets?

I plan to have some extended stays in Vegas but probably won't stay in any casino. I'd like to know if I can use any of my tier benefits without affecting my future offers.

 

You will get some varied answers on this. Some will be right. Some will be wrong. Some are just plain unknown.

For CET, you can see when your last activity is online, but you can not see if it impacted your ADT or not.

For sure, waving your card for the buffet line will not cause a problem. Using the card to pay probably will.

I am thinking anytime your card gets into their computer, you will get hit. Hard to say with Diamond Lounge. Never know if the system is just checking to see if the card is valid, or if gets into the mystery ADT machine or not.

I would not trust what a host or booth person tells you. Back when we could actually SEE our ADT online, their answers were wrong most of the time. And, I am sure some back office people keep making changes without sharing information.

If you can find a friendly host that will actually TELL you your current ADT and last few visits, you might be able to figure a few things out. Then go in one day and hit Diamond Lounge. Check back in a day or two and see if your ADT changed or not. Then a few other things like that.

 

Buffet/Valet/Taxi line cutting? I don't see how this would trigger a "day" since there is no computer making any record of your presence.

Everything else, from diamond lounge entry to comp redemption to hotel checkin to actual play is IMO definitely going to count as a "day."

Not sure how much this helps in terms of providing clarity, but here is how CET explains it in their annual report (emphasis added by me):

We measure performance in part through the tracking of trips by rated customers, which means a customer whose gaming activity is tracked through the Total Rewards customer-loyalty system ("trips"), and by spend per rated customer trip ("spend per trip"). A trip is created by a Total
Rewards card holder engaging in one or more of the following activities while at one of our properties: (1) hotel stay, (2) gaming activity, or (3) a comp redemption, which means the receipt of a complimentary item given out by our casinos. In markets where we have multiple properties, customers often engage in trip generating activities at more than one property in a day. In these instances, we consider the market as a whole and do not count multiple trips. Customer spend means the cumulative rated theoretical spend (which is the amount of money expected to be retained by the casino based upon the mathematics underlying the particular game as a fraction of the amount of money wagered by the customer) across all game types for a specific customer.​
