I'm arriving in Vegas on Jan 23 for 2 nights and currently have the Nugget booked (Carson Room). I keep hearing quite a bit about The D and am tempted to check them out. The D (including the "resort" fee) is about $50 less if I use the Expedia $25 app promo but see the cost issue as a wash. I was initially drawn to the GN since the pool area is still open and some hot tub time might be nice. On the other hand, the D just sounds fun. I'm a 40 yo single guy so a few nights at the D might be a blast - but I'll admit some reviews turn me off. While I like the GN, the Carson rooms must be getting dated? I've stayed there before but in the Rush tower. I'm not too concerned about the gaming since its easy enough to walk from place to place.

    Should I give the D a chance?

They are really not the same thing.

The golden nugget is very much like a strip property. nicer place, nicer rooms, all the things you expect from a decent strip hotel.

The d, although my favorite, is really just a polished up old time downtown joint.

The new rooms are nice but not on par with the gn by any stretch.

I like it there because its cheap and fun and they put up with me. I like to party and drink tons of beer in vegas and thats my kind of place. the gn is more of a wine and martini type place i guess you could say.

My last downtown stay was at the Fremont and I found there rooms were serviceable - so I'm sure the D will be okay for me as far as rooms. This may also need to be party and beer type of trip, so the D sounds even more tempting.

The D is right down the st, only a couple hundred ft away, you can stay at the nugget and spend time at the D quite easily.

The D's rate just went up so I'll stick with the GN for this trip. I'll make it a point to hang out at the D a little more this trip so I can soak it all in.

Spend time and a little money at The D and you'll get some really great offers for next time ... better than anywhere else downtown. I have stayed in both hotel's rooms and either one would be acceptable to most people.

If you're wanting to party, the Nugget is sedate and The D is more party-time. Andiamos at The D has a really great dinner selection. And I love the easy availability of McDonald's coffee in the morning, it's surprisingly good.

Yep, good point Gramma. I stayed at the GN in November and got a players card at The D and just received a nice mailer with room discounts, match play and free play. I like The D, but the music is very, very loud. Still, it's a fun place to gamble but I'll continue to stay at the GN when I stay downtown. :peace:

I like GN but our room was far, far away from the entrance, but it is a nice hotel. We usually stay at the D because they comp our rooms, but i wish they would play better music downstairs.

Carson Tower is in the back away from the FSE canopy so any room is quiet..
