I have recently booked at The Palazzo for Super Bowl weekend. I will be arriving on Jan 31st and staying until February 4th. The room was booked on an offer received via e-mail for three nights so I am paying for one night.

My best friend is flying in the next day to join me for a guys weekend and I am excited to be in Vegas for the first time in a couple years.

I have stayed at The Venetian before, just not at Palazzo.

I have combed through this section via search function for tips and information on The Palazzo but noticed that some of the information is a year plus old. Anyone have anything new to add?

    A few questions I have for you Palazzo vets;

    1. Do I have to add my buddy to the room? I will be checking in Fri and he arrives on Sat. Can I just get two room keys and add his name or does he need to show ID? The reservation is solely in my name.

    2. I'm assuming the nightly incidental hold is on par with other hotels at $150? Can anyone confirm or deny? I am ok with that because I will be charging meals and various other things back to the room.

    3. I want to have a view of The Mirage - which tower should I request?

    4. Do they have fridges in the room? If not, can I request for one to be sent up? How much do they charge?

    5. How are the craps tables/dealers there? The dice are my main game and I have never shot at Palazzo. Additionally do they have Spanish 21 still?

    6. I am not really interested in upgrades and I imagine since it is SB weekend they will be tough to come by - but what is the next room up from the standard two queen suite?

    7. Are the resort fees still optional? What awesome amenities can I expect should I have to pay the resort fee?

Feel free to add any other tips or information you can think of...

    Thanks!

I can only help with a few things.

    1. Just let them know his name when you check in. Then he can pick up a key at the front desk when he arrives in case you're not around.

    4. No fridge, just a minibar. I don't know what the fee is to have one sent up, though.

    5. Fair to middling. Nothing special, but not bad. They know what they're doing but not much in the way of personality (in my experiences). $10-15 mins most of the time.

    7. They were optional last time I stayed there (April '13). They didn't freely offer up the fact that they were optional when i checked in, though. I had to remind them.

You can add him to the room when you check in, but it really doesn't matter. If you want to just meet him as he arrives, that would be fine too. They do typically ask to see room cards before you get to the elevator bank.

Can't really help you with the other questions.

One other tip. They have a super small sports book in the middle of the casino floor. It's not their main sports book. It has only 2 cash registers and was like 12 feet wide. You'll miss it if you are not paying attention. The Monday after last years superbowl, we cashed our winning tickets there around 9 or 10am. There was no one there as everyone else was in the main book collecting their bets. Saved a lot of time.

Not really any upgrades there, except a view... the rooms are huge anyways, I don't see the need to upgrade.

It's worth it to me to have wifi personally... I've never tried to get it waved anyways. When I was there on an offer/comp a few months ago the resort fee was waived.

Tip from me: Get the V/P iPhone app, you can plug in where you are and where you wanna go and it'll give you walking directions. Haha worth it to me!

Before you leave, just stop at the casino credit desk in the corner (if you don't have a host), and ask them to look up your play, and see if they can take off any of your room charges. They've always been pretty good to me about removing charges. Good luck!

Carve, Knot, Heather & Neuro - thank you for the great tips. They're all very helpful!

I will definitely be stopping by the host's office before and after as I want to see about getting a LOC opened up as I think I want to make V/P my home base.

The iPhone app is cool...I have downloaded it already and know it will be helpful. Last time I stayed at Venetian I was a newbie to the property and got lost in the Canal Shoppes.

If the resort fees are comped then that would be nice...otherwise if they're optional then I will be rejecting them. My phone is covered through work so I don't have to worry about data and I won't be bringing a tablet or laptop. If I were going solo then I would.

I will call them and ask about the fridge. I hate paying mini-bar fees because they're stupidly overpriced. I'm no cheapskate but there are a few things I reject paying on principle and mini-bar items are one that I dig my heels in on!

PS - what kind of play do they look for comp-wise? I play craps, blackjack, Spanish 21 and roulette.

I was told informally by the host that they "expect" $150-200 a hand x 4 hours of blackjack and $300-400 per roll at craps x 4 hours to expect to get the room covered. Anything beyond that and they can start to comp off food and beverage.

Unfortunately, the $300-400 per roll at craps does not include odds bets.

This was over a year ago, so things may have changed.

    Thanks, Neuro.

I am definitely going to ask about the odds being included in the ratings. I am anticipating $15-$25 craps tables and if they're $25 I could see myself hitting the $300 per roll if odds are included.

I did some digging and saw that refrigerators are available for $25 per night so if I can get the resort fees waived then I will pay for the fridge as it would be the same $100 that I'd pay for resort fees. If they don't allow me to opt out of the resort fees then I will ask the check in clerk if they'll comp one for me and I will tip them. Since I don't plan on asking for a room upgrade a fridge is the only thing I'd ask for.

How's the blackjack conditions there? Favorable rules?

On the main floor, you'll find double deck games that are H17 but allow double after split ($25-50 when it's slow, $50-100 when busy) and six deck games that offer all the "good shoe rules" (S17, DAS, RSA and late surrender) for $50-200.

The DD games are pitch, which I like. Whether that matters to you...

I thought the HL room used to have S17 double deck games, but when I walked through in November, I didn't see any. It was the middle of the day though, so there weren't too many tables open...so take that info with a grain of salt.

Lower limit games ($10-15) are, I believe, eight deck, H17, DAS, RSA, late surrender.

    Thanks, Carve.

Is the S17 pretty much dead on the strip within the $25-$100/hand range?

Most (or at least, many) places still have S17 for shoe games. For S17 double deck games, the MGM properties are your best bet. I know Aria, Bellagio, MGM and Mirage still have them for $100 or less (but usually not much less than $100). Others might as well. But those are the only Milf properties I frequent.

    Palazzo

I have stayed at both the vent and pal, both about the same. But a good choice with walgreens out front and the casiono royal next door, for drunks and tourist action. Hard to get comps withe the 300 to 500 expected on roll as Im only at 100 or so. I have been to the vent superbowl party upstairs. You will need a host to get wristband. Food and liquor with betting stations outside. I also like the self parking for the palazoo easy in and out and always seems like plenty of spaces. I would stay away from ventition parking as seems crowed and the the valet parking is pretty aggressive. I usually check out monday and stay on on boulder hwy the rest of the week and really relax.......

    Thanks!

Obviously the news came out this week that the resort fees are no longer optional but in the research I have done where people have stayed on comped offers it seems at the fees are waived.

The fridge fee is $25 per night and I will likely do that or have 'em clean out the mini-bar.

I saw someone mention a collapsible cooler and I may do that. I am not talking some huge gaudy thing but one like you'd take your lunch in or something like that. I just want to be able to keep a couple bottles of water, diet coke and gatorade cold for when we get back to the room and for in the morning.

One more week...I am fired up!

Just tell them you have medication that needs to be refrigerated, by law they can't charge you for a fridge. I've done this before when i really did have a medication to refrigerate, but they never asked for verification. Worth a try!

That's what my buddy told me but I am a horrible BS'er and feel guilty about it lol

I will bring the little cooler just in case I cannot sweet talk one for free. Or maybe since I will not ask for an upgrade since we already have the two queen suite I will offer up $50 tip for one. That's a $50 savings over what they charge!
