I've been lurking for about a month. My dh and I have been to Vegas once in 2008. We are planning a trip with my sister (who has been once and didn't leave Luxor) her boyfriend and my parents who have never been. I want to stay at Harrah's or Mirage due to them being in the center. We will be there 5 days and want to see everything on the strip, Fremont St. and Gold and Silver Pawn. Ok here is the question. How can we split the trip up so my parents have the least walking each day? Any suggestions would be helpful. Also if I should have posted this somewhere else please direct me. Thanks

Harrah's is the best location for walking....so much convenient from there but the rooms are better at Mirage. We stay at Paris or Bally's due to the location....close by Bellagio, PH, etc with a monorail to get around too. Really depends on which hotel has the most around it that you want to go to. With LV virgins....you will probably want to go to a lot of places and cabs can get expensive. Good luck and hope you have a great trip!!

There is a bus line on the strip that is great for that. It stops I think in front of Harrahs it is called SDX..... You can get a ticket for 30 bucks i think and it goes to Fremont and elsehwere.

First piece of advice is, with a 5 day trip, you will not be able to see everything, don't even try. There is too much to do and greater distances between venues than you think.
As for choices, Mirage and Harrah's are great for you wanting a centralized location. Harrah's may get the edge because of its monorail access. The monorail would cut the walk down for your parents, when heading to the south end of the strip (MGM/NY-NY,etc).
For north end or downtown trips, you can cab or bus it, walking is not an option.
When going together with a group, it always seems hard to come up with a consensus on what to do and when. Try and get that narrowed down before you get to town. You can then do research online as to costs and special deals.
Good luck, enjoy your trip and stayed tuned here for many more good ideas from the board.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried to explain that although the next casino is a block away that block equals about 4 of our blocks here in our small rural town. I am leaning towards Harrah's. We play at the casinos in KC and the parents think Harrah's is dirty here and are shying away for that reason. We are not highfalutin people really. We are just low rollers who like to people watch and play slots. This trip should be interesting...they just want us to prepare a clipboard of fun and are along for the ride. Which bus would be safer to ride the SDX or Duece? And do they both go to the same places?

If you all play CET casinos....have you checked on the CET web page for free or reduced rate rooms?

Either bus is fine during the day but be mindful that the Deuce makes a tons of stops and can take ages if you are traveling during rush hour. They do have great passes for either 24 hrs or 3 days.

I know we all should have offers at Ameristar properties we all have moved up to the second and third card level. We should have a few offers from Harrahs but not as good. We don't use our card half the time we are there they seem unlucky sometimes. But I guess we shoot ourselves in the foot with that thinking.

    Welcome to the madhouse!
Note-to-remember: if you're traveling with a group, ask your doorman for an SUV cab rather than using monorail or bus. On a per=person basis, 4 or 5 in a cab is one of the more economical way to travel. Since your parents are in the group, splurge on a limo at least once! Perhaps for the trip between the strip & downtown. Since you pay for a one-hour minimum anyway, when leaving downtown, have them take LV Blvd all the way to MGM. You can always do the monorail from there back to Harrah's (for the experience of riding it) - just bear in mind that, for 6 people, the monorail will cost way more than two cabs would.

Ha. Those are contradicting objectives. That statement is like someone stating they want to eat everything they desire yet still want to lose weight.

My first recommendation is to ensure a very comfortable pair of walking shoes is brought with you to Vegas.

    Here is my suggestion.
Day 1 - Take a cab to the south end of the strip east side and work your way back.
Day 2 - Take cab to the south end of the strip west side and work your way back.
Day 3 & 4 do the same on the North side.
    Day 5 do downtown.

If good progress is made one day maybe get a head start on the next day.

Why a cab instead of the monorail? Just getting to/from the monorail could be a significant walk itself.

I see you are already getting some great advice. If you prefer to go the cab route keep in mind that you will have to split up into two cabs if there are six of you. Even the mini van cabs have a four person limit. If you take the monorail it is still a lot of walking and does not stop at every casino. I've rarely taken the bus but it's always another option.

As far as hotels, Harrah's isn't a bad choice but my personal preference would be Mirage. I think the rooms at Mirage are much nicer. Whatever you decide to do, don't worry to much about things, you need to enjoy your trip too.

Welcome to the board. Keep reading and you will find a lot of great tips and advice.

Hope you all have a great trip!
