Need some assistance planning a 7-8 night trip in February

Hello everyone it's been quite a while since I've visited the board. I will be going to vegas in February for a bowling tournament. So far I plan to arrive Feb1or2 and stay until Feb9. The tournament in being held at The Orleans and i'm having a hard time trying to decide where to stay. I really don't want to stay at The Orleans mainly because of the food options and simply was not feeling the vibe of the hotel itself. So what I needed is suggestions on a few hotels and transportation options as I will be hauling bowling balls each day and renting a car isn't an option for other reasons. I'm trying to keep my hotel cost somewhere around $100 or less each day.

Both The Palms and Rio aren't too far away. I'd guess in February, most prices should be somewhat favorable to provide you lots of options.

 

The Orleans has a free shuttle service with stops at the Gold Coast (with Palms across the street) and on Las Vegas Blvd at Flamingo (Bally's, Paris, Bellagio, Caesar's, Flamingo, etc.) Orleans guests get priority service though, runs from 9am to 12:30am

 

Have you stayed at the Orleans?? Lots of people speak very highly of the hotel and I personally leave the Strip to eat at the Prime Rib Loft or the Canal Street Grille. There are a couple of other restaurants that people have said are quite good.

Carrying those bowling balls across town on a bus or a shuttle does not sound easy so you might want to think about staying there

 

Thanks everyone. No I have not stayed there and from the people I have talked to they say they didn't care much for it. I definitely will consider the Palms and Rio as options. The free shuttle definitely expands my strip options.

 

The Rio doesn't even compare to the Orleans. We changed rooms due to leaky toilets, dirty, worn out carpet, etc. They upgraded us to a "newly remodeled floor/room". The décor was ugly and the room not any nicer than an Orleans room. And you have to walk FOREVER to get to your rooms from the casino.

We're happily going back to the Orleans in March. Ask for an upgrade and get a view room. It's honestly our favorite place to stay.

I'm a former bowler. There's no way I'd be hauling balls around in Vegas! That would be a royal pain! The only way I'd do it is by taking a taxi back and forth. Why pay for a more expensive room and then add all those fees on top? If I remember correctly, luggage is not allowed on the shuttle so they would probably not want ball bags either.

Eat somewhere else if you don't like the food there. We usually eat a few meals in other places but get comps pretty easily for the Orleans buffet or café. We've had really good food at the Mexican place, steak house and the café. Gold Coast is a quick shuttle ride away and the Chinese restaurant there is supposed to be the best in Vegas.

 

theres are some food places around the orleans if that helps, all walkable to the hotel. good chineese and other stuff walgreens quite a few options a block or 2 walk. i drive by there all the time

 

My advice stay at the Orleans. It is a great value and the rooms are nice. I like the food options. You can always jump on the shuttle to visit other restaurants if you like. You posted the question under frugal so I suppose you don't want to spend a whole lot of money. I jump on the shuttle and visit the Orleans for a visit to have reasonable beer prices. I also like the bands that they have for free. So give it a try it really is a great place to stay.

 

Keep in mind that feb 2 is Super bowl day the rates for that weekend will be high

 

You shouldn't let other people decide what is best for you. The tournament is in the Orleans and lugging a bowling ball can be a pain. Just stay there. Try it since you've never been. It's not that bad. And the shuttles to other properties are there for you during times you are not at the tournament.

Is the food options unfavorable because you're a vegetarian or diabetic? There are so many dining options there it's hard to fathom why there isn't something there that can appeal to you.

Having no car and trying to lug the ball everyday to the Orleans just seems like a major hassle....

 

Choose, I imagine the most practical location would be Palms Place. However, unless you want to walk between the properties you will need a rental. Palms Place published rate (no searching for a discount) was total:$823.00 for February 2 - 9.

Honestly the Orleans isnt a bad place. They have some upgradable rooms that still would fit your budget. You said having to take your ball, but now your waiting on shuttle or taxi to get there and back, and if you meet some people you want to hang with you have to take ball to your hotel or leave it at baggage. Rio is less than a mile east and palms is a mile north, plus easier to share a taxi at night going to the strip that going to orleans in the AM.

I found out I can keep my balls at the Orleans for that week so that isn't a concern anymore. I just looked at Bally's and the pricing was very inexpensive. However I have never stayed there so I need to look at some reviews of it. I also was considering splitting my stay at different properties.

 

Just clicked on this thread but only the last posting. Yikes. I was a little taken aback at what I just read and had to go to the first posting to see what this thread was all about. Alright then. It's all better now. Phew.
