    Ok, need some help here.

had to reschedule my trip I had planned to go to Vegas next weekend. I am now going in Feb for the UFC fight. My room at Harrahs, which is where I was booked for next week, is comped. At MGM I have the following options:

$68 per night in West Wing King
$80 for Grand King or Queen
$84 per for Exec King Suite

The exec King suite looks pretty badass. Could anybody tell me from experience how that is? And the other rooms

the only reason I am considering MGM, is because the fight and all fight activities will take place there, and i will be at home base for it. I like the harrahs overall location better, because I like piano bar/carnival court for drinking, and venetian/Bellagio/Aria for poker during the day

    Any thoughts?

Can't comment on the MGM rooms, but if you like Harrah's for its location and gaming options in the area then I'd just stay there and take the monorail to MGM Grand for the fight stuff.

I much prefer mgm to Harrah. Having said that, the rooms at Harrah are okay and I would take the $350 and bet it on the fights.

I've never stayed at Harah's so I cant comment on the property. However I have stayed at MGM several times.
If you are going to stay at MGM, west wing rooms are the smaller rooms.... in a separate tower from the grand rooms/suites. I have never stayed in those rooms but from reviews from others who have, I would say spend the extra 10 bucks a night and stay in the grand tower.

Now to differentiate between the Grand king room and grand king Suite. If you do decide to spend the money to go with MGM --- no brainer again... spend the extra $4 a night on the suite. The suite is about 1 1/3 times the size of the standard grand room. It has a sectional couch with a second tv. Great to hang out in. The beds at MGM rooms and suites are both very comfortable. Bathroom in the suite is bigger with a double sink... and it also has a separate shower and tub. The grand room only has the tub shower combo.

Next thing to consider. As much as I like staying at MGM, it will be an absolute zoo the weekend of a fight. Probably gonna have higher table limits than normal and some wait times at the restaurants. On the plus side you will not have to walk back and forth for the fight and other events.... plus I like the dining options at MGM. If you stay, definitely hit Wolfgang Pucks restaurant for a late night meal. Avenue 24 decent for breakfast as well. Or for a quick bite you can always hit the food court or shoot across to NYNY.

For drinks..... drink service at MGMs poker room is usually pretty prompt.... never really had an issue there. Also, Whisky Down is the new gaming/lounge area they opened up. Although the tables are higher stakes at whisky down, you can play 25 cent VP and get comped drinks. There are a few other bars/ lounges available but again, the night of the fight, they're probably all gonna be packed.

I have been to the MGM for fights, and it is a zoo there, but usually the ufc fights are on big weekends; super bowl, memorial day, 4th of july and nye weekend. This fight is just in mid february. So im kinda guessing that it wont be as packed. I could be wrong though. And I definetly do not like to be swamped in big crowds. Also, with MGM being so big, I was worried it would take forever to find/get to my room.

$350- is a nice chunk of change.

If it was me I liked the comped option, I would take it.

    $350 > any inconvenience.

    Pick the comp!

I've stayed at both and MGM is nicer, but it's $12 for an all day monorail pass so the swing is $338 in favor of Harrah's (not including resort fees... resort fees...)
$338 can get you in to a lot of fun!!

I have wanted to upgrade to a bigger/nicer room and simply pay the difference from a comped room, but then my wife does the math, calculates the total difference and tells me that is $x amount of gambling money.

In the end I have yet to upgrade.

Long story short you are basically tossing away $350 in gambling funds. That is a good buy-in at a BJ or Craps table. Even with factoring the cost of the monorail you are still coming out ahead. Plus, it appears Harrahs comps you better which means you may get most if not all your food knocked off your trip at the end.

Harrahs isn't anything great but the location is awesome. MGM ive never stayed because the location is further then i'd like but if the fight activities are at mgm and you have money to burn stay at mgm youll enjoy the night more knowing you don't have to take the monorail back to harrahs afterwards.

I'm all about location and Harrahs was our base for the last 2 trips. Take the comp room and pay for the 24 hour pass on the monorail.

Everything you like and do during the day/night is in Harrahs vicinity as you said in the origanal post. Nothing wrong with a comped room and more spending money IMHO.

I'd go with the comp, but I also care very little about the room. Depending on the trip, that King Suite does sound interesting. I have no idea what $350 means to you. 50% of your gambling budget or 5% are 2 very different situations.

At times it is simply nice to splurge on something you wouldn't normally get. Just looking at the MGM website it doesn't look like the room is an amazing deal, but does look like a decent room.

Looks like you have been to Vegas enough to know if you like MGM Grand or the area around it. I happen to like that area, but I far prefer the NYNY/Luxor/Mandalay Bay Casinos over MGM Grand.

Like I said, I'd go with the comp just because $350 is a lot of nice meals. If you want something nicer though and splurge, that price seems very reasonable. I did the same with Aria on my last trip. Paid for 2 nights when I could have gotten comped rooms at Flamingo. I felt it was worth it in the end. I won't do it next time, but maybe again in 3-4 trips.

well, your asking a bunch of degenerate gamblers(no disrespect) if they want to spend $350 of their wad on a room when they can get a room for free...of course they are all going with the freebie, lol. So ring up one more vote for the comped room! Seriously though....why pay for something you don't need to, and what else could you do with that 350? If $$ isn't that big a deal though to you, then just stay where you feel you need to be.

Ha, I'm not a degenerate gambler and I dunno how free vs. $350 is even a question.

Holy shit...yes it is! Good thing I booked the Harrahs for free. That kinda sucks tho, because it makes the trip harder. I wanted to go the not only the fight, but the press conference and maybe even the open workouts

i may see if I have an offer for NYNY that is worth anything, so I can tram it over.

I hate paying for Cabs in Vegas!

well, nothing good at NYNY...could get the excalibur for $220...but I dont care for that place. I guess it will be free at Harrahs and a long journey to mandalay bay for fight activities
