Anyone have an idea of what the hotels hold for incidentals??

More looking for Monte Carlo, NYNY, Excal & Trop. I have emailed them but i mostly get a form letter back. We are staying 3 nights at either MC or NYNY and 3 nights at excal with the last 2 nights at Trop. With that many days that is a lot to hold on my cc so just trying to budget.

There should be a sticky with the holds like their is with the resort fees.

You'll have a lot of holds on your card, they usually take 1-3 days (in some rare cases over a week) to clear temporary charges. Also, be aware that any room charges will be placed as temporary holds on your card as well. I had about $4000 tied up on my credit card last vacation after charging two 12 person dinners, a nice dinner with the gf, and 3 rooms at THEhotel on my card...

Usually only $100 and it comes off as soon as you check out (or one day after)
However, Tropicana held $100 for each night we were there...and three days later hasn't taken it off yet (it actually posted to the account, rather than just "pending" then gone)
If you're staying at Trop, DEFINITELY ask for Paradise Tower...the club tower is like a mile damn walk away from everything!

In my experience, some places will allow you to waive the incidental holds if you tell them you don't plan on charging anything to the room. This was at PH and MGM. I'm not sure if this is commonplace or not

    Thanks for the advice

I am going to ask for minimal hold with no charges allowed but wanted an idea. We will not gamble enough to have anything taken off anyways.

Unless you have a very low limit on your credit card, it should not be an issue. Maybe a couple hundred. If your limit is that low, I would consider getting it raised.

A debit card is an entirely different animal. Don't get me started on that.

    I WISH that were commonplace!
MSS only holds $50, rather than the usual Boyd "$100".

As far as holds on CC go, I just returned from a 2 night stay at NYNY. They held $50 on credit card for each night.

It took exactly 5 days to get the holds removed from my 'credit limit'. (I am from Canada.)

I usually tell them not to put any incidentals on my room so I know the room is paid for in full already. Did they just charge you when you were in town a few weeks ago at the Orleans/Gold Coast? If so, is that $100 per night or just total? I want to be prepared.

    $100 per property.
My rooms are free via mailer though, so I dunno if you have to pay (with resort fee and all that)

I told Flamingo I wanted my charging privileges turned off so there was no hold. I paid the room in full when I checked in.

Don't most of the joints allow you to put cash down as a deposit and then get it back when you check out?

    Hotel Incidental Fees

I noticed that some of the strip casinos seem to go a little overboard in my opinion with the incidental fee they want to reserve on a credit card or cash. I saw a few that wanted to reserve a $100.00 a day on your credit card or $200.00 a day cash. I just feel that can be a little steep per day on your credit card especially if you don't have a high limit. Needless to say I shied away from the ones that I found with these fees.

well its suposed to protect the hotel in case of damage and theft and charges.

200$ doesnt buy much these days.

i just rented a car and they held 150$.

    +1.

I heard some of MGM's new rooms (after their recent renovation) were trashed and damaged really badly a few days after the renovation. This shows that there's a good # of people who don't treat the rooms properly, which is why the hotels have to protect themselves from situations like this. It's definitely not cheap to re-do the room, especially after they spent all that $ on the renovation.

If I recall correctly, MGM was $100 per day but up to $300 max. If you charge more than a $100 on a certain day, they hold another $100.

No offense but those who don't have enough credit limit for a $100-300 hold shouldn't even be in Vegas in the first place. It's not like Vegas is the only city where they do holds on credit/debit cards either...

I'm at Aria this weekend. I had two MyVegas nights then a two night reservation. They have hit my Visa card for $342, $130, and $515...

Front desk said all that will eventually come off and all that will be left is like $255 or so for the two night reservation. I have $140 left til that card is maxed ($3500 limit, I pay my bill on the sixth of the month so it's really full right now lol) Good thing I brought my Amex.

One of the reasons I pushed for the Monte Carlo on this trip was I didn't see these incidental fees listed like I did for Bally's, Flamingo and a few others. I was going to take one credit card that would just be for the incidental hold. We are staying 5 nights so if they hit it for $500.00 I'd put it off to the side hidden away not for use in our visit.

Now this lists Monte Carlo as $50 a night on a card. I never saw that before reservations were made. But $50 is more affordable than $100 a night I guess.

Normally i agree with this, but after 8 days and 3 hotels that adds up to almost 1000 which is a lot to hold onto. It is not just 1-300.
