Friends: Plan in being in Vegas later this year and would like to play at a higher level.

For those who lay craps with pass line backed with full odds (assuming 3/4/5x free odds) and 2 come bets with full odds

or blackjack at at least $25 a hand what is your usual minimum bankroll for a session?

I would say $500 buy in and another $500 in your pocket to play a multi-hour session of $25 blackjack.

I would say double that to play $10 craps (per your strategy, you will often have over $100 in play at that level).

Here is an interesting "risk of ruin" chart for blackjack to explore the relationship between bankroll, average bet, and hands played: http://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/appendix/12/

Obviously, I don't know what you consider a "session"...

...but I'd want at least $500 for a $25 BJ session and probably at least $2000-3000 for a $25 craps session as you described.

My minimum 'session' bankroll for any blackjack table is 10-times my base bet...and more often than not, it's 20-times.
So, if I'm playing green, I usually buy in for $300. As others have posted, $500 is safer.
    Craps? I have no idea...I've never played higher than $10 minimum...and that's rare...it's usually $5. When I have played $10 bets at craps, I brought $300 with me, if that helps. ($10 line, $10 or $20 odds, $12 6 & 8)... $44-54 every pass.

To me sessions are variable in time. I do not play much craps, but when i do i generally buy in for 100x my base betting unit. So, if I am betting $10 pass line, then i buy in for $1000. For BJ, i buy in for 20x my base beting unit. A session to me is 2 buyins max. After that, i move to another table or casino and consider it a new session.

I'd say $3250 for a craps session like that...
Figure you'll have three $125 bets in action (so $375 at any given time)
I'd at least want 10x that.
For a $25 blackjack session, $1000 oughta do (40 units; for splits and doubles)

Lets see.... 25 dollar passline with average 100 dollars odds. Two come bets with average 100 dollars each in odds.

That's 375 dollars per hand average. Because of the high volatility of the game many seasoned craps players recommend 10X your average layout that you risk on the felt as your session buy-in.

4000 dollars for the way you plan to play is the minimum buy-in for any particular session.

Have fun! Let us know how you did. Good Luck!!:thumbsup:

What has been said is what I do too:
20X the table minimum at blackjack
100X the table minimum at craps.

That will get enough play that you don't have to keep rebuying and look like a noob.

I only play craps for fun, but for blackjack, it's 50-100x my average bet. I don't always buy in for all of it upfront, but I at least have that amount in loc or cash in my purse.

Craps with 345 odds and 2 come bets and $25 bets is a much much bigger game then $25 blackjack.
I used WinCraps to simulate the $25 craps game you plan to play, and the standard deviation per (root) hour is about $1300 (assuming ~ 120 rolls/hour). You would need about $3000 to have a risk of ruin < 10% for two hours of play (for example).
For blackjack, you would be betting about $125 a hand to see that much variance. :faint:

If you take that down to a $5 table, with max odds (345) and 2 comes, that is about the same variance as $25 blackjack! (80 hands an hour). In both of those games you need about $600 for 2 hours of play at 10% risk of ruin.

Crazy isn't? At a $10 table, reduce your odds a bit (in half should be about right) to keep the variance at close to $25 blackjack level. Or just plan to bring more cash to the craps table then the blackjack table!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I knew more $$ would be needed fro craps, just not sure what others would think for bankroll. Mine was a tad low: 1k fr $25 BJ, 2.5K for craps

If you're not looking to come home with the money... I would tell you to go for it anyway. I'm sure I'll be judged for saying that, but hey, I turned 2k in to 45k in one shoe playing 100+ a hand. It's a bigger risk, go on a bad run, and you're done. But, hit a good shoe, and the you will love every moment. I'm a degenerate though.

Not possible at "$100+" a bet.

Playing one-on-one with the dealer on an 8 deck shoe, you still unlikely to get much more than 50 hands in a shoe. You would have to win more than 45 out of those 50 hands, and average over $1,000 per hand bet to win that much in one shoe.

Just made me remember a fantastic session I had at a 6-deck shoe at the old IP.
I won or pushed every hand for an entire shoe! I've never experienced anything like it, not before or since.

I just wish I had been pressing my bets the entire time. As it was, I only managed to increase my average bet from $5 (at the start) to about $40 toward the end...still did quite well for a single shoe, but I kick myself to this day for not being braver.

This. MAYBE $1,000+ a hand. With heavy emphasis on the "plus."

I started at 100, but bet progressively, so it quickly went up significantly.
