What is your bankroll? There are so many choices anymore with video slots that trying to give advise is very difficult. If you like to win big by betting big then I would suggest $1.00 3-reel machines, Double or Triple Diamond, 2x-3x-4x-5x 5-line 3 reel games are quite popular, these machines can also be found in quarter up to $500 games. I personally stay away from the Wheel of Fortune games, never did well on them.
As for video slots the choices are way over the top in selection my favorites are the WMS G+ games such as Great Eagle Returns, Vampires Embrace, Kronos, Bier Haus etc. Then you have pretty much everyone's favorites in the Buffalo games along with other Aristocrat games. The Buffalo games can be found in every casino.

You got to watch it even penny slots can get you. Some are 500 pennies a spin!

I usually max bet if I play but not all machines require you to max bet for bonuses and such.

At NYNY, I sat down at a Plants vs Zombies machine while waiting for my wife and hit a $105 dollar bonus using the minimum bet of 50 pennies.

You, should read the games rules on any game you've never played. It will say if you need to max bet or not.

Find one you have fun on.

My new fave machine is Dragons Law. A huge fan of all the china shore xtra rewards and this is from that line of games by Konami it is very cool.

Had a blast playing it at Aria and won a $1000 bucks. Cost me about $100 but played for a couple hours on it before hitting kept me going and it was one of those big machines where hubby and I could sit on the bench together drink and play it. Really a fun experience if you get a chance check it out there a numerous videos of it online.

There are way too many slot machines. Personally, I find the older video slots to be more "generous" than the newer slots. If you max bet at $3-$5 on penny slots, then I recommend playing three-reel $1 slots and max betting on those.

My favorites are Quick Hits (Penny and $1) and Pink Diamonds ($1). Not a fan of the Monopoly games... find them to be very stingy

You really dont need any knowledge to play slots. Just put your money in, and hit the spin button.

How much are you looking to bet per spin and are you more interested in games with lots of reels and bonuses or games which have 3 reels and are like the old BAR machines?

My personal favourites are either 25c 3-line Top Dollar or 25c 3-line Wheel of Fortune (75c a spin). They also do these at $1, $2, $5 and $10 as well as the high rollers ($25, $50, $100 etc). Multiply denomination by three to get total bet.

These are basic 3 reel machines but give a bonus if the Top Dollar or WoF hits by itself on the winline in the 3rd reel only.

Can be found in all casinos for most of the denominations above.

Experience is easy: Insert bill, set bet, press play
Expense: Slots are generally an expense, word to the wise (wish I could take my own advise LOL) if you hit something take your money and run!!

    Very true, Adam !

Being a dedicated video poker player, I can look at a VP machine, and know what the "theoretical" payback % is by the pay schedule. However, you can't do that with a "slot" machine. Someone might have a "favorite" slot machine they like to play, or are looking for ... but they are NOT able to tell you what the payback % is, because of many unknown variable factors. In fact, the same "exact-looking" machines could have varying payback percentages, since there is no way to look at them and know what those theoretical percentages are. Video poker is a fixed deck of cards, but slot machines can have unknown programming from machine to machine.

So ... if you like slots, put your money in, and have fun, and maybe you will get lucky. However, the task of finding the "best" slot machine can be only in one's imagination ....

I love the Lord of the Rings machine that has the six different bonus' above it that you get to play if you get three rings across your 3-line slot. It's fun because you seem to get bonus' every 10 or less spins, but don't always win a lot (or anything at all)...though I did win pretty big on it during my last trip. If Lord of the Rings is not your thing, they have an identical machine to The Godfather theme, though I haven't seen that at every casino, only Venetian and Aria, I'm sure it's more places though

I played the Godfather slot at Eastside Cannery last November and was impressed with how quick the bonus's came. We went to have the buffet and after I decided to play a little and put a 5 in the Godfather slot. I almost hit every bonus and ended cashing out a little over 50 bucks. Not bad at I think 40 cents a spin.

    I say try them ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just walk through the Casino to see what catches your eye.
Guarantee you will be walking fast to a machine.
Many are related to movies and tv shows.
A newbie would be hard pressed to walk through and not find themselves gravitating toward a familiar machine.
Do any of these sound familiar....
    Batman
    Hangover
    Ghostbusters
    Clue
    Sex and the City
    Michael Jackson
    Deal or No Deal
    Nascar Racing
    Cheers
    Superman
    Spiderman
    Willy Wonka
    Monopoly
    Wheel of Fortune
    Twilight Zone
    Family Guy
    ...and much much more.

Sit, play and don't feel bad after a few spins the game seems boring. Just move on to the next machine. You will find some machine just seem to have a hold on you and keep you entertained.

Don't forget the old time reel slots either. Some like Top Dollar are pretty fun too.

If interested check out my trip report from Aug which has a number of videos and reviews about some games. https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97227

I always play Wild Cherry and Double Wild Cherry, 5x pay, Triple Star 7 machines because those are the ones I've won on! There used to be a bank of Triple Star 7's right after you got off the elevator at the Orleans. That's where I hit my first $1500 jackpot at about 3 in the morning. I ran up to the room and threw money all over the bed and woke my sister up. She always goes to bed before I do...no stamina. ;) I came home with over $800 that trip after all expenses were paid.

Last time I was there, we played a lot of penny slots which I swear took my money faster than dollar machines did. The only one I really liked was a Wizard of Oz game. There were several of us playing at once and it was pretty fun.
