Will never happen. The NHL needs to contract rather than expand. The arena would be emoty with all the entertainment options in town. Waste of time.

Likely to see a team in Quebec City before anywhere else although I am sure there would not be the money issues you see with the likes of teams like Nashville if a team was granted to Vegas.

Knowing I'm relocating to Vegas in 2016 and being a long time fan of these god awful Islanders, I sure would welcome the NHL arriving in Vegas the same time I am. They need 2 teams out west. Right now the Western Conf. has 2 fewer teams than the east with the same number of playoff spots, meaning it's tougher in the east to make it to the dance. I know this bothers the owners in the east. Plus, as Bob McKenzie says, it will be very lucrative for the owners to accept this idea.

But I agree, #1 on the list should be Quebec. They came down to LI when there was word the Islanders would be interested in moving, to show their cities support of a move. They came out by the thousands with hundred of signs saying they would take our beleaguered franchise. And being from Long Island my whole life living with those glorious memories of 4 Cups, I'd rather they move to a city like Quebec city than to Brooklyn.

And Bluerider, awesome avatar. I'm both a huge hockey fan and an even bigger Dead head.

Your right but for the wrong reasons.

The league is looking to expand ............ money to be made off of expansion fees but it will not be to Vegas because the NHL is more adamant about the gambling issues in Vegas than any other sports league.

Plus there are other options that are more viable.......... Seattle, KC and Quebec.

Plus - The town hardly supports their minor league option "The Las Vegas Gamblers". Apples and oranges but it is still a factor.

If the league did expand into Vegas you can bet the feature would be that you could go to Vegas to see your team play while visiting Vegas, Rangers, Flyers etc.

The NHL is not going to happen in Vegas anytime soon ............ NBA might test the waters but even that is doubtful.

I doubt Vegas will ever land a NHL team or any other professional sports team (and hope they NEVER bring back an NBA All Star Game). The metropolitan area holds just over 1 million, there are gambling concerns (especially with NFL and on a traditional sense MLB), they do not have a stadium (and there is no support for taxpayer funded for stadium) and there is not a broad range of industries / corporations beyond the casino entry to purchase the suites and sky boxes which make up a substantial portion of stadium revenue.

I have fun checking out the Wranglers minor league team when I'm in town during hockey season.

I'd like to see a return to a 24 team league, but they likely will expand to a 32 team league to take advantage of the new Canadian TV contract revenue (and strength of the Canadian dollar), gullible taxpayers and rich owners waiving around expansion fee cash (Funded by taxpayers and the Fed).

I'd like to see Bettman go and the full return of divisional playoffs (1 vs. 4 and 2 vs.3 in each division) and divisional based schedule to strengthen rivalries. The regular season games might become somewhat meaningful as well.

    Commissioner Viva Las Vegas NHL:

    Prince of Wales Conference
Adams Division: Boston, Buffalo, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City.
Patrick Division: New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Washington.

    Campbell Conference
Norris Division: Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Saint Louis, Toronto, Winnipeg.
Smythe Division: Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Los Angeles, San Jose, Vancouver.

Bettman's NHL: Adds / retains: Anaheim, Carolina, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, New York Islanders, Seattle.
