First time staying at the Nugget, and I like to look ahead and scout the routes. Looks like the valet is on Casino Center south of the FSE. My question is that Google Maps insists on going past the FSE to Ogden, then South on Casino Center to get to GN from the airport.

There doesn't seem to be any reason for this. In other words, why not turn earlier on Bridger or something and go north on Casino Center? Just wondering if anyone knows a reason or if Google Maps is just funny.

    Thanks

Not quite sure if Google maps is saying to take the freeway or not - if you take the freeway right downtown you do end up north of Fremont.

However... I think the best way is to get of a Charleston and work your way downtown on Main St.

Deke onto Bridger and then north to the lobby or Rush tower lobby.

Really though, why not get a limo for the trip. It's only a few bucks more, and then you don't care how they go.

I never take cabs downtown anymore.

Some of them st's are one way, but you are not using the valet service, you are arriving by cab, he can drop you wherever you want.. Bottom line if you let them tunnel/freeway you it will cost $35 -40, surface streets paradise to lv blvd, hooking up past The STRAT and you closer to $25 -28.

I appreciate what everyone is saying, but I am not asking about the tunnel, the freeway, or the price. Yes, I would take Paradise. Even by going surface streets, Google Maps still wants you to loop around the FSE.

For me, the question is simply, "is there any reason why the Golden Nugget cannot or should not be arrived at by going north on Casino Center as opposed to south"?

Just curious why Google Maps refuses to consider this option on a two-way street.

I think a limo (just a sedan) would be well over $50 with everything and a tip, right?

Yeah, I think you can get a sedan for $40 and then add tip.

I guess I dont understand why what google maps says is important, the cabbie will likely do final approach as he is used to, or as you request.

Have we reached the point where sites like google are controlling our movements, It's a tool to help us, you dont have to listen to it sir.

Google maps and other online directions often take traffic into consideration as in Boston they route you onto 495 which seems very much out of the way but the more direct 95 would put you in commuter traffic which would be shorter but perhaps take more time to get through. People familiar with the roads would consider time of day,, what day and make adjustments. Out of towners just wouldn't know. I imagine that is true in many places.

I don't have those problems, $1.00 gets me from the airport to 4th and Carson in 28 minutes during which I plan where to go to dine! Cab is $25-28 as mentioned Ogden to airport.

The thing with Google Maps is it is trying to take you to the actual marker for your location, not across the street from it, and that marker is a bit away from the actual cab entrance. So if you look at it on street view or just zoom in you will see that it goes around because it would otherwise think it would need to do a u-turn on Casino Center which it can't do. You can drag the route to wherever you want or just move the marker to a more convenient spot. For a lot of the bigger hotels the driveways leading up to the entrance are included in Google Maps so it can factor them in, but that isn't the case for the Golden Nugget.

I couldn't find any online that cheap. Any hints how to get that?

No, Google Maps does not control my movements. Rather, I was trying to find out if there was some traffic requirement that was not evident in the picture from Google Maps that would require this odd maneuver. I have never driven myself downtown, and so am not intuitively familiar with driving in the area.

My all-time worst cab experience involved going to the Four Queens. As the cherry-on-top of this ride, the cabbie did this same maneuver Google Maps describes (going past FSE then back down Casino Center), and I wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing.

Anyway, seems like its just a Google quirk rather than the correct route, so thanks!
