Flamingo 12-20 to 12-23

I just got back a few hours ago from a rather fun trip. This was my first trip since May and was 4 days/3 nights, I could have used one more day.

Instead of a play by play of my trip, I wanted to give the highlights (and few lowlights). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

*Stayed at Flamingo comped (except for Resort Fees) in a Fab Luxury Strip View. The resort fees were $18 a day. My room was on the 22nd Floor facing Caesars. Overall I enjoyed the Fab Luxury rooms. The decor was fairly basic, but quite comfortable. The positives for me were that the rooms weren't carpeted (the "hardwood" floors were not slick and felt very clean), flat screen TV, plenty of outlets for various chargers, nice reliable safe and a comfy bench near the floor to ceiling windows to look out of. The only real negative of the room is that the bathrooms feel old. The tub was circa 1985 and showed it's age, same for for the bathroom ceiling. Other than that I was quite happy with this room.

**I kept my heavy gambling primarily with CET properties, but did casino hop some. Played plenty at Flamingo, Harrahs, Pho and Caesars. I also played a small amount at the Quad. I did give a small amount to Mlife via Blackjack at Mirage and slots at Aria. I played a lot of craps, a decent amount of blackjack, some slot play, football bets and a few horse bets. I did not win enough to retire at age 37, but am happy with the damage I did do. Craps was the big money maker this trip at both Flamingo and Harrahs and also had a real nice hit with the horses. Blackjack was up and down with a slight edge to down. For the first time in a long time I probably broke even with slots. The CSI Miami game was a lot of fun and gets an "A" for entertainment value. Cocktail service at the CET properties was heads and shoulders above Mirage and Aria. I know rules aren't as favorable to players as they use to be, but I found the table games experience to be as good as it has been in probably 4 or 5 trips. Every dealer I can remember was very friendly and enjoyable to be around. The one exception was maybe the overly friendly/part time comedian at Mirage. It literally took forever to get through a hand as jokes and an annoying fake laugh ensued with each card that was dealt. That was the only table that wouldn't get a gold star in my book.

*Food as always was good. I didn't stray off as much as I had planned on doing. I had big aspirations to try some new places I had been wanting to, but being a solo traveler, I let that factor into my decision making. A few, but not all of the places I visited were BLT Burger (very good and very filling), Twin Peaks to watch football (a chain, but I had never been, was a good meal, but I could have done better), Hash House a Go Go for breakfast (first time, glad I went), Center Cut (food was really good, but I thought my waiter, for lack of a better term sucked. The rest of the staff was attentive and nice, but my waiter just didn't seem to give a crap.) I wanted to try Baccanal at Caesars, but I had no interest in waiting in the huge lines they had. I checked once for lunch at 1:30 on Saturday and on Sunday for dinner at 8:30ish. Both times the lines were extremely long. Maybe next time.

Other thoughts:

- In general Vegas was slow (as expected) for a Friday night. Saturday picked up some, but Sunday seemed to have a huge influx of visitors. I found this interesting, but appreciated the extra live vibe for a Sunday evening.
- The remodel of Bills can't be completed soon enough in my book. That corner is a mess with the construction, it is dark and seemed overrun under the scaffolding and on the bridge with the panhandlers. I never felt unsafe, but I found it unpleasant for sure. Add that in to now the construction in front of Bally's, that whole stretch is a disaster. I did not find the Linq construction to be a bother at all. You can tell they are getting very close on that project.
- I was unimpressed with both the Caesars and Venetian's versions of their ice rinks. First of all, the sheets of ice are small and could fit in a large living room. I didn't participate, so these are just from a passer by point of view.
- Normally I fly Southwest into McCarron, however I had a free ticket on Alaska and this was my first time flying into that terminal. Very easy in and out, short walk to baggage claim and the Taxi line was a line of 3 when I arrived. Never seen that short of a line in all my years.

That's it for now, I hope I didn't bore you. I am already looking at when I can go back. Probably April at the earliest, but who knows.

 

Thanks for the TR! I love hearing about other peoples visits! I have only stayed at Flamingo once, my last trip in Sept and if I have a choice Im staying there every time. They were so amazing to us. My only complaint was that we had the pool view, I wanted the Strip view so badly, we had first timers with us and nothing beats that view! I loved the Table games staff there, I hate that the BJ wasn't 3:2, does that exist anywhere anymore?!?
Agreed 100% I hated walking the old bills corner, any time of day, it was a hassle for sure! too over crowded all the time.

Did the flamingo send you an email a week or so before your trip offering you to upgrade your room?

Did you notice if the airport shuttles dropped people at the same place your cab dropped you

Facing ceasars could you hear any contruction/jackhammering noise

 

Have fun on your trip. To answer your questions:

- I received the email to upgrade about 4 days before I left. I did not take advantage of the offer, but did receive it.

- I honestly didn't notice the Airport Shuttles at all. I was offered the shuttle at check-out and declined. Even though Taxi's cost more, I just am more comfortable hopping in a cab when I'm ready. Sorry I'm no help on this question.

- I didn't hear any construction in my room. I did always have my TV on anytime I was in there (including when I was sleeping) but I didn't hear any complaints from anyone else in passing.

We've enjoyed staying at Flamingo over the years but haven't stayed there in a while. Like to play there and always stop by for VP at the bar.
