Well, according to NBC sports, it is a possibility. If a major winter storm blows through, contingency plans allow for the game to be switched to the day before (Saturday), Monday, Tuesday, or even the following weekend.

Of course, it would be a late decision in the days leading up to the big game and would affect a lot of people. People spend a lot of money in advance of the big game (travel, hotels, airfare, etc.). It would be a shame for millions of people if this happened. We are scheduled to watch the game in Vegas. We fly out of Vegas Monday afternoon (day after the superbowl). I'll be bummed if the game gets rescheduled and I miss it because I'm on a flight.

A few days ago I was hoping for a terrible weather game. Now I'm not so sure. Here is the link to the NBC sports story: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/19/nfls-super-bowl-weather-plan-includes-rescheduling-game/

There is a contingency plan every year. I vaguely recall some discussion of moving the game to Monday a few years ago when the Colts played the Bears in a monsoon. I think it would take some tremendously bad weather for the league to move the game

They wanted an outdoor game in the Northeast in the winter, so make them play in whatever conditions they have!

    Won't matter after this year.

People (Corp. sponsors) will complain about the cold, NFL is not allowing tailgating this year, not allowing cabs or limos to bring people to the game, only 13,000 spaces I believe, which means you meet at a designated lot outside the area and get bussed in for $51 bucks, etc, etc, etc.

    Per ESPN:

"You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you're not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it'll all be watched very carefully."

No cars will be allowed near the stadium on game day without parking passes, and any car that drops off a passenger will have to wait at the stadium.

"Nobody's going to be dropped off by black car," Kelly said. "You can have a black car, a green car, a white car, a red car as long as you have parking, and the car needs to stay on the premises the entire time."

Fans who had considered parking farther from the stadium and getting there on foot will not be allowed to enter.

"You cannot walk to the Super Bowl," Kelly said. "You can get your hotel to drop you off at one of the New Jersey Transit locations or get the shuttle to take you to a Fan Express location, but you cannot walk."

That seems ridiculous in my opinion.

Also, the no-tailgating rule seems a bit stringent.

I'll be watching someplace warm in Vegas, where I'll walk freely and tailgate excessively :)

Only a couple of thousand seats end up in the hands of the general public.

The thing that would really screw it up is if there was a big storm that started Friday afternoon or night and lasted all day Saturday and made it impossible to fly into NY or BOS or BWI. The odds of that happening are higher than in July, but not that high.

I don't see them moving it to Saturday with a potential storm brewing on Sunday as much as moving it to Monday with a storm having come in on Friday / Saturday. But I don't see it at all unless paralyzing as it would be way too much reconfiguring with travel / lodging / etc. I plan to be warm and toasty in LV....now that is planning.

You got that right, I was just reading about the ticket distribution and the allocation to general public is sparse.

Where do NFL Super Bowl tickets go?
75% of the tickets are split among the 32 NFL teams.
5% go to the host team
17.5% go to the AFC representative team
17.5% go to the NFC representative team
35% go to the remaining 29 teams. Each one gets 1.2%
25% Controlled by the NFL and given to companies, broadcast network, media, sponsors and host committee

I had Patriots season tickets for 20 years.

The years they made it to the superbowl, they supposedly had a lottery for season ticket holders for the right to buy a pair of superbowl tickets at face value. You got one ping pong ball in the draw for each ticket you owned, for each year you owned it.

They never disclosed how many tickets were distributed that way, but I never knew anybody who got any that way, and I never knew anybody who knew anybody who got them that way.

    play no matter what

The only reason to postpone the Superbowl

    1. Sharknado occurs

    2. Volcano erupts in the stadium

Otherwise - "Lets play some football"

The NFL is getting too soft and needs some viagra

    Superbowl-If they change the date/snow

How bad will Las Vegas be hit if snow moves the Superbowl to Monday?
NFL has plans set up if too much snow at Meadowlands.
I have a flight out of LV Monday. Is it possible I could be listening to the SB on a plane?
All the SB party reservations. How many people will go Monday?

The Superbowl is being played in East Rutherford, not the South Pole.

I've lived in NJ my whole life and I can't remember a single Superbowl Sunday where it's snowed. There's been snow on the ground from previous storms, but I honestly don't ever remember any snow happening on Superbowl Sunday.

People are getting riled up into a frenzy about a blizzard happening, when in reality, it will probably be in the mid 40's and sunny.

Better cold, and even snow, than a dome. I'd love it if they rotated the Super Bowl to warm weather cities in open air venues with real grass fields. Pasadena, Miami would be fine with me.

Except wasn't the weather a disaster last time they had it in Miami? I understand the concern about snow, but rain strikes me as being just as bad in terms of playing conditions.

Personally, I'd love it if it snowed. That first installment of the Winter Classic, where they played in a crazy blizzard, was one of my favorite sporting events I've seen.

Yep, you're right about the rain. Snow wouldn't bother me as long as it's going to be some what cold either. I guess my point is that as a fan attending the game I much prefer to go to cities that are warm. As for domes, I understand why the league plays in them but football's biggest game should, IMHO, be played outdoors.

Btw, not a Vikings fan at all, but I'm glad to see them leave the Metrodome and play outdoors again. The Vikes gave up a great natural advantage when they moved indoors after such a great run for all those years at Metropolitan Stadium.
