Last night at Golden Nugget AC Mrs. left her lightweight leather jacket on the stool at the poker bar. She walked to other bar to join me and after a while realized the jacket was back at the other bar. Of course it was gone. Her own fault but people cant do the right thing and turn it in.

I've had people do the right thing and other times they don't. Last month when I flew to Vegas on Delta, I left my nice heavy wool jacket in one of the overhead bins. I didn't realize it until I got to the hotel. I notified Delta and when I went back to the airport to return home I asked about it. They said they did not find any jackets left on my inbound flight earlier in the week. I guess someone has a nice wool jacket.

Wow. My first though is if it wasn't a gift for the bartender's girlfriend then I would have to assess some blame on him. He knows who is where / when / how long and it would seem an empty chair with a jacket on it would draw his attention. Goodness knows an occuppied chair with no coin in certainly does. 'Tis the season but not for some people obviously.

If it was a gift for the bartender's girlfriend then shame shame. But what a risk to your job security if so.

I have a wife who has committed similar missteps but then I can remember leaving an expensive pair of glasses between machines of VP and fortunately finding them in lost and found after a coctail waitress discovered them. Tipped her 20 $ which was less than 5% of their value but she seemed appreciative.

People have lapses and especially when alcohol is involved (in my case). Some prey on those lapses, others take the opportunity to reaffirm their basic propensity to do the right thing. Karma is a bitch most times.

At least you have a gift idea for her.

Sorry to hear. I had the opposite luck in AC with this. Earlier this year I left my fleece jacket on a chair at a table at Caesars. In the zippered pockets I had an envelope with several thousand in cash. It also had my car keys. I didn't realize I forgot the jacket until hours later when I was going to my car. I wasn't even sure where I left it. I ran back to the table where there was a new dealer and pit crew and they had no idea, I ran over to other places I was playing and found nothing. Luckily it was at Lost & Found, the contents in the pockets completely untouched. I knew I got lucky as hell.

Losing the money would have sucked, but I was mostly concerned with not having any car keys because I needed to get back home. I don't even know if AAA can help in that situation.

Im prone to losing things, my husband HATES that I do this, its not something that I do for fun. But I lost my keys inside Kohls when my hubby was away on business so I called my brother to drive over and sit at the car, since I didn't know if someone found them and was going to try and drive off with a new car, so I went inside retraced my steps, OF COURSE this was the time im looking for shoes and went thru 10s of boxes of them so they could have been anywhere. Didn't find them, waitied around for 30 mins or so... drove my brothers car to our house and got the spare (while he waited at the car still) about 2 days later someone called me from kohls and I guess someone turned them in...
Long story short, MOST people eventually do the right thing and return things to the rightful owner, especially around the holidays! (maybe im also naïve)

Also, I highly doubt the bartender would risk their job for a jacket. Coming from someone who has worked in a casino for the last 7 years. There are SO MANY cameras on you at any given time.
Im a CW and I have now had it happen to me 3 times that someone hands me a $100 bill-Now I know when people mean to and when they don't mean to tip that, I each time said did you want change? all 3 times they were playing the low denom slot and said either "what did I give you?" or "Oh My Gosh, thank you" and then gave me the $1 they had in their OTHER hand. Now, working for tips, its tough, and I have heard stories about people just taking the bigger tip, but I cant, in good conscience, do that to people....And I'd like to think that more people are like that. I really hope for the best and that someone does the right thing and turns it in!

She just got back from the mall

Didnt waste much time ,hey she had a 25% off coupon.
The bartender we've known for a long time he's a good guy ,has even tracked me down once when I left a ticket in the vp machine. I managed to hit the 4 dueces and she hit a couple 4 of a kinds so the night wasnt a total loss.
Guess who's paying for the new jacket, she has a birthday coming up.
Thanks to all for their thoughts.

That is really unfortunate, you would think people would put themselves in that situation and consider returning it to lost and found. This week I found a Mac Air Notebook with charges and thumbdrives at the airport. I leafed through the satchel and located an email and phone number for the individual and sent him a message right away. Lucky he was still in the airport and we were able to connect and I returned everything to him. I found an Iphone in the mall a few weeks ago and returned it also to the owner. Hoping this will generate some good karma if I ever lose an important and/or expensive item.

not as valuable .....left a good handmade cigar at a slot machine , wife went back to get it
a man had it in his shirt pocket (she saw it ) he said ...nope haven't seen one ...
I guess his wife gave him a dirty look , so I was told ....my wife turned around , started to walk away and then said .....enjoy that cigar ...
not a big loss by any means .....

If you haven't already I'd think you should still check back: sometimes things get turned in but take their time to make it to the security office.

A few years back, after moving to the Cal from Sam's Town, I realized I had probably left a dark blue turtleneck sweater behind. I called Sam's, spoke to someone in housekeeping, and was told they had it. I was all set to take the shuttle back to retrieve it, but they offered to mail it home, which saved me the trip. It's always worth at least a phone call!

Leaving for the airport in a couple hours - and taking the turtleneck! :)

You're joking, right? The only thing a busy bartender notices is who needs a drink. Where on earth did you get the idea that they had an eye on personal belongings? :confused2:

I guess from all the times I've left stuff at the bar, on the stool or in the area and don't get too far before I am shouted back to retrieve it. Given, I have no idea how many bartenders are at this particular bar nor how large the bar area is, it was probably an off-the-cuff observation without merit. But joking; ? are you serious? I never joke in the season to be jolly.

My husband and I once checked into a hotel, and found a very expensive men's watch in one of the dresser drawers. I googled it and this was a several thousand dollar watch. It did not occur to either of us for a second to do anything but turn it in. I brought it down to the front desk, and the GM happened to be there and overheard my conversation with the clerk. He thanked me for being honest and comped us a meal in a very nice on site restaurant. I was honestly surprised that he was so surprised we turned it in. I like to think more people than not will try to get lost items back to their rightful owner.

I agree I would do the same as you, but not sure I can agree with the "more than not" assumption.

My wife leaves stuff all over the place. When she does, we have been lucky a lot more often than not.

Once when we were driving through South Carolina, she left her purse at a barbecue restaurant way out in the sticks, and I had to drive nearly an hour one way in the dark on country roads to retrieve it. I told my wife before she went in to tip the finder $20 if she got the purse back. I said I bet the finder will refuse the money, and when she does, to tell her to put the twenty into the collection plate on Sunday. That's exactly how it went down. I have no doubt the twenty went into the plate.

So you see, such episodes should not make you give up on people. Most people will do the right thing.

I was at the Meadowlands Racetrack betting on the horses earlier this years, and I was using the automated betting terminals, rather than a live person. Basically what you do is, put your money in, say $20, make your bet, say $5, and you'll receive 2 tickets, one for your bet and one for your balance.

So I'm waiting in line behind a guy, and I see him take his betting slip, but he runs off before his balance slip prints out. So I grab it and it was for more than $500. So I run and chase him down, asking him if he forgot something. He gave me a big thank you, told me he was already down a lot of money and I just saved his ass. Then he was on his way.

For a split second, I wished I was more of a scumbag, but that's just not the way I was brought up.

Karma must have been busy that day though, as I didn't hit on another horse the rest of the day.

What a bummer. Hate the feeling you get when you realize you left something.

Cars were getting broken into at the Quad parking garage when I was there in November. I decided to put my GPS away when I parked figuring "out of sight, out of mind"
I returned the rental car at 9:30 PM to Budget and when I was driving home 6 hours later I realized I had left my GPS in the console. I called Budget lost and found right away and the lady said they had two Garmins and can I identify mine. I said to turn it on and press home and it should give my address.

She said I will call you right back. This was a Friday and she did not call me back and was off on the weekend. Monday I called again and when I talked to someone else they said there were no GPS there and I have never heard back from them.

Some Budget employee is enjoying my GPS.
