LVH - Love / Hate

As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I almost always used to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton. Even when it was the Hilton, it got mixed reviews. I, however, always thoroughly enjoyed the property. Comfortable rooms, close the monorail, and free internet/breakfast for Diamond members.

In reading some reviews since it became the LVH, you'd think it turned into the Western. For those of you who have stayed since the turnover, has it really gotten that bad?

I'm considering a stay there in a few weeks and now I'm petrified.

only stayed there on one trip. Memorial Day weekend 2013. (1) the showers had almost no water pressure. (2) I booked on their 'Golf Package" and arrived to find out The LV Country Club does not allow guest of the LVH to play on that weekend and wasn't informed ahead by the LVH, so No GOLF!...(3) Stayed a Grand room that was pretty outdated... they did comp a dinner at Benihana's to try and make up for the Golf Snafu, but still.....

 

I enjoyed my room and hotel. Good vp tables but lousy comps.

 

My Wife and I stayed at LVH on a random free offer in October 2013....we didn't find it bad at all.
We actually really enjoyed ourselves. We got a comped sunday brunch buffet from playing $5 UTH (which they had on the weekend!) and we liked it.
Also, having the monorail station right there helped a lot too.
On a free offer I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. (But don't take that the wrong way, as I won't pay for a hotel room at any property, lol)

 

I also stayed on a casino rate offer that was in turn comped in Oct. it all depended in what you are looking for? Casino? Cost? We had a renovated room that was good but the bathroom was still out of date. We were not in the room much and gambled offsite 90 percent of the time. Did use myVegas for monorail and a cab to downtown was around 10 bucks. Doubt we will stay again because me and the wife are getting better offers downtown and MLife

 

The Hilton was always my primary joint to bunk at. Liked its location, value factor of rooms, sportsbook, go-green comps, pool area, the open spaces (compared to DT/Strip), etc.
Since the changeover, I've been satisfied with most of the above, but have noticed that the casino has turned into a morgue. No vibe anymore.

 

LVH is not that great anymore. I use to stay there all the time. I've switched over the SouthPoint. Much better video poker and comps.

 

Used to love the hilton but hate lvh. Not sure I'm going there ever again

 

I had an upgraded room there in Sept for 1 night. I am glad I was upgraded, because it was in pretty poor shape. Light bulbs didn't work. Beat up furniture, etc. It was fine for 1 night, and I am not at all picky, but I doubt I would stay again.

The worst issues were that at check in, they were clueless as to the type of room I booked, and that I was to receive 2 buffet passes and an upgrade. Took almost an hour to check in because of this. Then the buffet was closed during hours it was supposed to be open, and no one seemed to be aware of what hours the restaurants were open. The fitness center that is included with the "resort fee" is pathetic. They took one of the small shops that is out toward the parking garage, and stuffed a few machines into it, so you feel like you are in a fish bowl.

I have gotten good comps from the LVH. It is okay, Not a fan as it is far off the strip but with the monorail is easily gotten to the strip so that is nice. The casino itself is okay not much going on their. The room was just a room, it was nothing spectacular and for the price IMO was not worth it with its location.

 

Haven't been back there once since they took out the Star Trek Experience.

 

I don't think it's that bad. It's a good choice for frugal sports betting and video poker play.

The sportsbook rocks, the VP is very good, and it's nice to be on the monorail line. It can get really dead in the casino, though, and the blackjack rules and minimums seem way out of line to me.

The rooms are OK. Not great, nothing special, just OK. Maybe better than Luxor, but not as good as Bally's, if those mean anything.

I like the pool deck, though it is kind of small.

Big negatives for me are location and food. Food options are weak, overpriced and not open when I want them (coffee shop only stays open until 2pm Sun-Thu; burger place closes at 9pm!)

 

Agree 100% with above assessment. The rooms were clean and comfortable (besides the disappointing showers). Lack of late-night food options just doesn't seem very "Vegas" to me. I made due with the superbook deli one night, but I should be able to get a restaurant burger, an omelette, or at least some appetizers after midnight at a Vegas casino.

I might stay again if I were trying to visit during a busy time on a budget. Monorail is a huge plus.

 

Last time we were in Vegas we decide to go to LVH to see Vince Neil's place

We took the monorail and came in thru the entrance were the Star Trek Experience was. Its been turned into some kind of cheap looking Space Bar. You can make out all the features that was the Star Trek Experience.

Vince's place was disappointing.

LVH was a ghost town.

The left overs of the Star Trek Experience just gave the whole place a sad vibe.

I still have a working tribble on my desk from when we went to go see the Star Trek Experience way back in the day.

If you never did the Star Trek thing you missed out -it was actually pretty cool. My wife who is not even a fan enjoyed it. The surprising thing was how cheap looking the props/costumes were. On TV they look awesome but in person - not so much.

Anyway - walking around the LVH where all the Star Trek stuff was like putting together a puzzle of what it was.

 

LVH is my home casino and I still love it. I play VP and they have some of the best games in LV. Rooms are nice, comps are easy there, great Sportsbook, nice rooms. My only complaint is the lackluster food. The buffet is OK for breakfast. Not a lot of late night options to eat.

 

I am a fan, stayed there twice,(not since 2011), and it was nicer than I thought it would be.

I typically float but always plan at least 6hr gambling session there. Slots seem loose, and BJ has been go to me there. Good place to nap.(super book watching PGA golf).

I stayed 5 weekends ago on a two night comp stay. Rooms were in the same good condition as they were my last visit (Hilton).

Great VP, Great Sportsbook and decent two deck BJ (DAS, RSA, H17) at the quarter level. Not many food options and the casino isn't very lively except for weekends or when there is a big convention.

Will continue to stay and play, using the easy to secure comped rooms as needed.

I also stayed on the comped golf offer a few trips back, but was able to easily book my tee time and enjoy the course. It was my first time golfing in Vegas (or a desert) and the heat must have caught up to me (round from 9-1PM) as I was knocked out for my final night in Vegas.

 

The hotel itself is quite good considering how cheaply you can get rooms (I've seen $26 for some fridays).

The check-in experience I've found to be a hassle however. The last time I stayed they completely conned me with a $150 dinner & beverage package that turned out to be vouchers of the "buy 2 get one free 1 $20 value!" type. Until then I haven't even considered to be back.

Not much of a loss though. The location of the hotel, not in Downtown, not on the Strip and not really near anything makes logistics a drag.

With the options you have in today's economy there's simply no reason to stay at the LVH. They do have some great restaurants but it just doesn't cut it, all the big players have great restaurants at their hotels.

 

One thing they really need to sort out is signage and upkeep! We went there to see the Rock Vault show and after coming out of the monorail station we entered the hotel at a deserted, dimly lit bar which I believe used to be known as the Quark bar when they had the Star Trek experience.

There were large partitions which you could barely squeeze by and had we not been there before and not had a ticket for the show could easily have believed the hotel was either completely closed down or that there was no access to the main hotel. No customers or members of staff around and pretty deserted in the casino too! The only positives were the show, which was brilliant and a good buffet, with free beer or wine included in the price! Room prices very cheap but you need to travel by monorail or taxis everywhere.

 

I read it moved over to Circus Circus? Or is it a second restaurant?
