NO casinos-NO Strip- NO Downtown. I have been to Vegas over 40 times and have eaten at just about everywhere. We always have a car and love to get out and about and eat at "local" places. I am a small business owner and like to give the little guy a chance, so it doesn't have to be a fancy place. Only requirement is good food. Any suggestions??

This was a few years back, but my buddy suggested we go to Jamm's restaurant from a tip he had gotten. We went for breakfast. Food was very good.... and portions that exceeded HHAGG for half the cost(and better quality). I remember the corned beef hash and pancakes were both very good. Staff was very nice. I would definitely go back out there if I ever got a rental car.... cab ride was close to $40 from the strip.

Bootlegger for Italian. Just south of the outlet mall.

It's independent, locally-owned, and away from the touristy areas.

You can't get much more off the beaten path then this: Bob Taylor's Ranch House. Oldest restaurant in the City of Las Vegas. Open for lunch & dinner and reasonable prices, relative to LV. The steaks are delicious and include sides.

It's a drive (22+) from the Strip but easy on 15 & 95. We've probably eaten there a half dozen times. Be warned the interior is nothing fancy.

If you like Thai food try Lotus of Siam on Sahara. Its about 1 1/2 miles from the strip.

We alway rent a car so that we can make at least two lunch visits to lotus of siam each Vegas trip. There is a buffet but we always order from the menu. We've never had a dish we didn't like.

Also there is an indian buffet next door to Lotus of Siam we've tried a couple times when Lotus of Siam was closed. I think it is Namaste.

    Good selection and reasonably priced

dmr....We have been to the Bootlegger. It was very good.

Joe.... We have also been to Bob Taylors. It was a drive out there but we didn't mind. Had a bit of trouble finding it. Its been a couple years. Lots of history out there, and very "rustic".

gpenguins....I'll have to look up Jamms. Sounds like what we are looking for.

Thanks all--you've given me some ideas.

If you haven't been here, you should go. now! It's delicious and super fun with bellydancers, but not in the sleezy strip club type of way. Most fun I've ever had at dinner.

If you like BBQ, I can second Rollin' Smoke and also recommend Road Kill Grill.

If you like a good Philly, try Pops Philly Cheesesteaks.

For good Chicago deep dish or Italian beefs, try Windy City Beefs n Pizza.

If you like good subs, find a Caprioti's

Outside Inn is a great place for fried walleye and other above average "bar food"

Sammys LA Pastrami is great for pastrami sandwiches or a pastrami burger

For a good steak at a good price, try John Cutters (half price on Sundays)

Lola's is pretty good for cajun (just don't compare it to what you find in New Orleans or you'll be disappointed)

Naked City Pizza has great pizza and even better sandwiches

I second the nod for Rollin Smoke BBQ! Amazing food in a not so nice area!

Have you tried Dom De Marco's Pizza in Summerlin? It's out on W Charleston around the 9000 west mark.

Honey Salt is also really good too :D

    Bachi Burger
    Monta Ramen
    Raku
Sweets Raku (3-course Japanese dessert. Amazing)
    Boiling Crab
Yonaka (really really good modernized Japanese)
    I-naba
    Snowflake (shaved snow)
    Chada Thai
El Menudazo (great menudo and posole)
    Settebello or Due Forni
    Goyamon AYCE sushi house
    The Cracked Egg
Chicken Shack (Great chicken wings place)
    Poppy Den
    Echo and Rig
    Firefly
    Honey Salt
    Eat
MTO Cafe (okay, it's a couple blocks from Downtown, but it's still not technically downtown!)
    M&M Soul Food

I tried the Opus Too at the Culinary Institute. It is a 3 course lunch for $10.95. I definitely go back. Menu changes every week or two. Here's the website: http://www.opustoo.com/

We always go to Hot and Juicy Crawfish in Chinatown. I know it's kind of touristy but man is it good.

I am not a vegetarian by any shot but wife and I went to Pure Vida Bakery and Bistro in July with another couple and my friend's wife is vegetarian and they live in LV. Off the strip as they picked us up.

Really impressive. I did their version of grilled cheese with the cranberry chutney and we split the salsa thing as an appetizer.

Throwing a curveball into the mix.

WOW lots of great suggestions. I'll only be in Vegas 5 days. I've made a list of all the suggestions and will Google them for addresses OR look them up in the phone book when we get there. Thanks everyone.
