    Trips to Las Vegas:

My wife and I (ok, it was her) recently got a 3 day offer for the Cosmo that was too good to pass up. We are getting 3 nights, $100 food credit, and $300 in Identity play, all comped. We will be going there from Feb 28-March 3, 2013. We normally stay at the lower tier CET properties, with the exception of a few days at Caesars a few years ago, so we are looking forward to our first stay at the Cosmopolitan.

We have only been there once a few years ago. We looked around on the main floor, played about $20 each on a slot machine, and I don't think we have ever gone back. We were shocked to get the offer in the mail the other day. We normally go to Vegas a couple of times each year, usually in the summer. This will be a different trip since we won't be wearing shorts or going to the pool. Since we are staying at a nicer place, we thought we might even dress like respectable adults instead of wearing shorts every day. I am pretty sure they will recognize that we don't belong there, but what the heck, we're gonna give it a shot

I have been reading everything I can about the Cosmo the past few days, but I am still left with some questions. If you have a moment and want to help out a low roller who will be staying in a different neighborhood for a few days, I would be very grateful if you would share any tips you may have about the Cosmo.

When I called the take advantage of this offer, I was told that we could have a choice of a few different rooms, depending on when we wanted to travel. We picked a trip 3 months away hoping for a better room. We were first offered a city room, but after some sweet talk we ended up with Terrace 1 bedroom. I think I did pretty well with the room, whattya think?

Following the advice of a previous poster, I asked for a high floor and a strip view. The reservation clerk said she couldn't guarantee the room, but she put us down for a high floor, lake view. Is this the same as a strip view that I asked for?

I understand their are two towers, East and West. When we check in, I assume I should ask for the East Tower to get the best view. Is this correct? I like the idea that the East tower is closer to the strip, so it makes sense that would have the better view. Is there a particular room or tower I should request upon check in?

I have read many people say that the Cosmo is a good place to play video poker at the bar and get top notch drinks. Is there a particular bar that we should visit?

Any favorite restaurant to use our 100 bucks?

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions.

For your food credit, I really enjoyed Blue Ribbon and Milos when I stayed there last month. In fact, I ate at Blue Ribbon twice during the trip

Holsteins is a yummy fun place to eat. I had a great burger with a Cake Batter milkshake with Cake Batter Vodka.. it was AWESOME. Drink service was excellent at Cosmopolitan, even paying the penny slots. I drink Crown and ginger with a twist of lime.... and they were not weak! It is a fun casino to play in. I have not played VP at the bar.. I'm a slots girl. My husband plays craps and enjoys the vibe at the Craps table.

Your terrace will more than likely be in the west tower, with the lake view being the Bellagio Fountans. I love that view personally, and will gladly sacrifice a short walk to the strip to enjoy it.

Do not eat at Stk unless you like a real overpriced club vibe. Milo's, Jaleo, Holsteins, and Pizza are all fantastic. I've never eaten at Blue Ribbon, but I hear it is very good.

I really think they just push the Terrace 1BR room type because they must not get booked often, they have a strange floor plan. On my last trip a few weeks ago I was being very specific that I wanted East Side tower and a high floor, he "couldn't find anything," then he found something and as he gave my keys he snuck in that it was a free upgrade to the 1BR (not a fan of the room type coming in, but wasn't going to argue because I got in on that B1G1 room deal and was able to book 4 nights in a row instead of the max of 2). Luckily he wrote the wrong room number (room number didn't exist on the floor) so I had to go down and told him I really would prefer the Terrace Studio I had booked. Ended up with high floor studio as I wanted, fountain view for free (originally he attempted selling me on a $30/day upcharge).

My previous trip at the beginning of Sept, came in on a Weds morning...once again offered the Terrace 1BR as a free upgrade. Declined it then, but they offered the Wraparound for a $100/night upcharge and said she might be able to bring it down to $80 if she made a call. Didn't want to spend another $300 on the room.

Nonetheless if you haven't stayed at Cosmo, I would call and see if you can just do a Terrace Studio and request the East tower and high floor. The East tower is so much closer to the strip, the hallways are all short because it is a small square, and the high floor elevators are super fast. The Terrace Studio floor plan is just more comfortable. The 1BR has an awkward corridor between the bedroom and living space that has the closests/mirrors on both side of you. I feel like the bathroom in the Studio is better also because it has a separate shower and tub area. I think the 1BR has that strange Japanese tub in the same area as the shower.

I much prefer the studio layout as comparied to the one bedroom! The studio has a full tub in the bathroom that my wife lives, with the one bedroom having a "soaking" tub.

The most important thing I would push for on arrival is the Eastside tower. The elevators drop you right into the casino, most resturants and close to the strip. Last time we were there we had a terrace studio on the 65th floor overloooking the fountains, and was actually higher than the effiel tower observation deck.

Get a drink at the Vesper bar, but don't order of the menu. Tell them your favorite type of alcohol and watch them go to work. Eat secret pizza at least once (enter down the hallway down beside blue ribbon sushi). Holsteins is great for burgers and fries. Wicked spoon is a high-tier buffet. STK was over priced and non-personal (they try to fit to many people in).

    Have fun!

Thank you for the tip. Avoiding the nightclub might be a good idea.

If you have good quality pizza in your location you will likely find Secret Pizza to be very average.

I prefer the studio to the one bedroom as well, but honestly have enjoyed all the rooms I've stayed in at Cosmo. On all but my last trip over Halloween my comped rooms have been Bellagio fountain view and could have been on that trip as well but I moved from Palms to Cosmo early in the day around 10 am and just wanted to get into the room and not wait for the Bellagio fountain view room. I enjoyed a different strip view. Hands down my favourite was the wraparound terrace suite, high floor, over the fountains they comped for my 50th. Keep hoping for that room upgrade on a comp again! I always love staying there and don't understand some of the negatives I read. We frequent Wynncore as well and it is true the "luxury" factor is different......but you can't beat sitting on that terrace and the great location!
I enjoy Holsteins, great food and great service from staff that seem happy to be there. I really like the buffet too and to me, it's a notch above Wynn and Bacchanal at Caesars. Love the Book and Stage for great bartenders while playing VP, many remember you and your order from trip to trip!
I'm certain you'll enjoy the leap up from CET properties.

Lake or fountain view is your top priority. High rooms are fine, but mid level is even better. The very high rooms have you looking straight down at Bellagio Fountains. Okay, but mid level is better.

+1. Its not a big difference between the studio terrace and 1 bedroom. Both are regular standard rooms but imo the terrace studio has a better layout but not a big deal. The fountain view should definately be your priority.

breanna61, thanks for the advice. I will be sure and check out the Book and Stage for some VP. I hadn't thought of doing the buffet, but you make a compelling argument. Thanks again.

Book and Stage bar has excellent bartenders and will craft otherwise expensive drinks if you are playing VP at the bar.

Avoiding the club is critical...in terms of room choice. We were on the 54th floor east side and had a view over the Blvd Pool...during the summer...SO noisy. I mean it looked like fun for the kids but cheebus it was loud. SO, you may have to watch for that as I don't know when pool season begins but if it's open, it's a loud party scene.

I would personally pass on Holstein's...their burgers aren't special...the shakes are fun...but still, burgers. We enjoyed Wicked Spoon but it can be a bit pricey for what it is. There were a couple of sources for 2-4-1 deals in tourist books and such, so if you could acquire one of those before then that would be worth it. We also enjoyed breakfast at Overlook Grill.

Drink at Cosmo. Chandelier has interesting but expensive drinks...I would rank Vesper and Book and Stage higher...and as previously posted, their floor drinks ain't bad. Play some penny slots in jorts for all anyone cares, but please order a Cosmo from a cw as you do so and you will enjoy as it comes in a martini glass and is delicious.

Also, rose.rabbit.lie will be open when you get there...looks worth a shot...the midnight show/entry is cheapest.

Enjoy! Cosmo can be fun...don't be afraid to explore.

Thanks for the advice and I'm glad you asked this question! For some reason this showed up in my mail the other day also. We booked 12/29 & 12/30 - obviously blocked on NYE and I wouldn't pay the price to stay there then. We are actually double booked at Flamingo the first 2 nights (and rest of the trip) and I have a limo pick-up to Flamingo (Go room).

Told my daughter we would just pack a small case for the two of us & head to Cosmo. I'll just unpack the carry-on and use that.

With us only having 2 days to stay plus a bunch of MV comps that we need to work around the holiday, it's going to take a bit more planning for food.

I was thinking possibly a host left CET and took names with him/her? I played only the one time at Cosmo (lose the $100 - get the free play - played thru all of that).

Of course pizza is highly subjective, but I couldn't disagree with this more. I've eaten at Pizzeria Bianco, Mozza, Vito's in LA, etc. and just had Secret Pizza for the first time, and I think it might be the best pizza I've ever eaten. The slice I ordered had pepperoni, peperoncinis and gobs of ricotta and a great crisp-on-the-bottom, chewy-in-the-middle crust.
