A few years back, I was staying downtown and just decided to take the bus there and walk the couple of blocks to my hotel. Worked out pretty well and was a lot cheaper than a taxi. Was checking out the RTC site a few weeks back and wondering if any of the airport buses actually drop you off in the Fremont St. area now with the new transfer site. It kind of doesn't look like it. Was thinking about staying downtown on my next visit because I've enjoyed spending time there the last few times I've visited and because most of my other "go-to hotels" seem pretty pricey. If anyone has had any recent experience with this, I'd appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!

The Westcliff Airport Express (WAX) picks you up at the airport's Zero Level and drops you off downtown at 4th & Carson (directly across the street from The D). It's about a 25 to 30 minute ride.

Here is a link to the WAX schedule: http://www.rtcsnv.com/wp-content/uploads/routes/2013/WAX%2807-07-13%29.pdf

I almost always stay downtown on my Vegas trips, and I almost always take the WAX from the airport to downtown.

If you're looking to take the WAX from downtown back to the airport, the WAX picks up at the corner of Fremont @ Casino Center (right by Binion's).

The WAX, in my opinion, is a great way to get from the airport to downtown. And, at only $2, it's the least expensive way to go about it.

I also like to take the WAX from downtown to the Suncoast.

Yup, you got your answer, it drops you a block up from Walgreens.

The 108 and 109 stop at the same station and all 3 stop at the Bonneville Transfer Station a few blocks south of the Golden nugget but the WAX is by far the fastest (28 minutes) and most convenient, even if you have to wait for it. Most of the day it picks up at Ground Zero just after the top of the hour, and I think a couple of times per hour for commuter rush. It is also a good way to come and go between downtown and the bottom of the strip as it stops at NYNY (northbound) and Tropicana (southbound). I have a reduced fare card since I am getting old so I ride for 1.00 which makes it even better. I think they may accept proof of age if you are over 60 to get the reduced rate.

We have just flashed our out of state DL, put in the buck and proceeded to find a seat. The drivers we have had so far looked like they could care less and there is no way they could read by birthdate from where I was holding my DL.

Not trying to cheat, we are over 60, just saying it didn't seem to matter that we didn't have an approved RTC issued id.

    Another vote for the WAX.

One of Las Vegas' best deals.

Never seems crowded. Luggage welcome. More pleasant clientele than 108 or 109 buses.

    Another use for the WAX:

Especially on those busy weekend nights, the WAX will get you from Binions to Tropicana Casino faster than anything else. The helpful RCT employees checking passes at Binions will tell you the WAX is just for the airport, but they like to oversimplify so as to limit customer questions; the WAX makes that one stop on the strip at the Tropicana Casino.
When the strip is bumper to bumper it will get you closer to walkable places; you can walk the rest faster than the buses.

There is also a free shuttle inside Monte Carlo that will drop you at Bellagio if you need access to the Flamingo strip corner.

And there is a free shuttle from Excalibur to Luxor and Mandalay Bay., again inside the casinos.

The WAX is also the fastest way from downtown to the Orleans. Just pick up the 201 Tropicana bus in front of NYNY. However, on busy nights Tropicana may be bumper to bumper.

Just pay attention to the WAX schedule posted at Binion's because the WAX runs a bus just once an hour and quits well before midnight. Click this link below for details of the route

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the WAX is definitely the way to go if I decide to stay downtown.
