Mods, I'm thinking maybe this belongs in Misc. Vegas, so obviously move it if you think so...

OK, the best place I thought to put this was in Trip Reports, because I know people who have upcoming trips read it a lot.

Anyways, I want to time a special visit to when Con Te Partiro is playing. On a Tuesday night.

I found a schedule from last year. A copy is below. I know it was accurate at the time because I was there the month before and I can tie it out.

    Here's the problem:
This schedule says the 15-minute intervals begin at 8:00pm. The Bellagio web site says they start at 7:00pm. Which means this schedule may or may not still be accurate.

So, if you have a trip planned between now and the middle of January, and you end up seeing a fountain show at Bellagio, all you have to do is post with the day of the week, time, and what song was playing. That'll help me see how accurate this schedule still is.

Anybody who can pin down Con Te Partiro on a Tuesday night will get a $25 gift card.

    The schedule

You can call Bellagio concierge and they will email you the most recent schedule.

As long as the Bellagio has been around, the Con Te Partiro has been played at the first and last show of the day.

First show: Star Spangled Banner followed immediately by Con Te Partiro
Last Show: Con Te Partiro followed immediately by Star Spangled Banner

The national anthem opens and closes the fountain's day. And by immediately, I mean one song ends, the fountains reset, and within 30 seconds, the next song starts.

At least this used to be true. I haven't watched the fountains myself in the last year or so.

    [edit]
Just saw your list. Guess they stopped doing a double show as the last show of the day. But they still do Star Spangled Banner and Con Te Partiro at the start of the day. Just call concierge to get the most recent schedule emailed. You can also drop by the concierge desk to pick up a printed copy of the schedule.

    [edit2]
Just saw that the last show is listed as starting at 11:55pm, not midnight. I wonder if that's so the show will end before midnight or if it's actually still a double show with Con Te Partiro at 11:55 and then Star Spangled Banner right after that to end the day a few minutes after midnight.

Now I'm curious and will have to drop by to see what the last show is like.

Thanks for that info. I want a time that's kind of in the middle of the evening. Gonna stop by for a drink at the piano bar by the lobby, and then pop outside for the show, but that's my favorite song of all the ones they use.

Depending on what time it is, they pipe in the music for the fountain show to Hyde. In my experience, they stop doing that around 8-9pm when they begin the nightclub transition, but it's not a bad view if they're actually playing the fountain show music and not nonsense like "Whoomp! There It Is!".

Sounds like Chuck has big plans, maybe a proposal in the works?

I'm sure a casino host could track down an actual schedule around a week prior to your arrival. Either way, good luck :)

    fyi,
If it is windy on the particular Tuesday night you plan to be there, the shows may be cancelled.

Right- we've been winded out the last few trips.

Good luck, and don't drop the ring into the lake.

I wish they would open that up to song requests for the fountains. Some songs by Enya would just be fantastic.

Nope, nothing that serious. I will say it's meant to make an impression, though.

I've been reading the board for a bit, but seeing this thread made me join. I'm a fairly regular (once a year or so) Vegas visitor, though not a gambler. But fountain technology is a hobby for me.

What time of day the shows change from half to quarter hours depends, if I remember correctly, on when night falls and the lights show up better. As to schedule, there is a small desk at the far left of all the check-in desks; they keep printed schedules. Which songs play at which times change weekly, and are drawn up by the fountain operators*. Sometimes the schedules kept at the desk are out-of-date, but if you're after a specific song, ask the person at the desk if they would please telephone the operators (sometimes they'll ask, other times they'll give you the phone) and verify the showtimes for that song. If you want to plan ahead, call the concierge before you arrive and ask the same question: if they could please phone the fountain operators and verify which times "Con Te" plays; you can let them know, if you want, that you've previously picked up a printed schedule only to find that it didn't have the correct times.

*There are two or three operators, who watch the shows live from a tiny window in a cupola. It's a bit tricky to spot the window. The shows are manually started, though pre-programmed, and the operators can kill the cues for the XTremeShooters (400 feet), the HyperShooters (240 feet), or even turn down the full height of the Oarsmen (robotic nozzles) and regular MiniShooters. Regular visitors may have noticed that, if winds are over about 12 mph, shows may be cancelled entirely.

There is, unfortunately, no way to "take requests" for the shows. Each song takes a few days' work, during which time WET Design's choreographer (several of the shows were aided by various dance choreographers) and programmers sit in a tent set-up on the wider central bay along the street, where the actions of the nozzles are meticulously arranged. They'll test various ideas and looks, running the new show(s) repeatedly with small changes, until they're satisfied. When I was there in October 2012, the team was on-site programming the three newest songs: "Billie Jean," "In The Mood," and "Lucy in the Sky." No other new songs have been ordered for about a decade, though there are several Christmas songs which are added to the regular rotation from September or October past New Year.

It's correct that the last show is no longer double, and hasn't been for a long time. There are also two songs choreographed for the opening, which ran for a few years and, for reasons unknown, were discontinued; anybody care to guess which ones they are? Maybe someone who saw a lot of this show early-on? Hint: One of the two was later choreographed in a different, remix format, and both versions ran for a short time before the original version was nixed. The other song is one of the recent additions to the Dubai Fountain's schedule.

The one thing I haven't seen yet, only heard about, is a person hopping in and swimming out to the fountain structure. It'd be comedic gold to see a guy sit out there, thinking the authorities can't catch him until he has enough and swims to shore... and then the little maintenance boat, an inflatable with a little outboard motor, comes out. Better swim fast!

Edit: There exists fountain tech which doesn't require elaborate choreography-by-hand. By its very nature, extremely complex arrangements of nozzles cannot be controlled this way, much less robotic ones. For those who want to see the very best that such equipment is capable of, see the show installed in the mall area at Planet Hollywood. That show's computer 'listens' to the music and creates a show in real-time. The effect is much like one of those 1970s stereo color organs: there's a channel for treble, middle, and bass, with each varying in height along with music volume, and the lights change on various beats. Viewers will quickly get bored. A lot of choreographed shows that exist have very poor choreography, what one industry tech calls "monkey at the controls" style, where you have a lot of effects happening in quick succession to convey a general mood of, "This is really exciting!!!" and yet, the wow factor isn't there (and they don't hold back effects for just the right moment). You may not notice when a show is poorly-programmed, but when choreography is good, it'll 'click' and engage the viewer to want to stay put and see what happens next. Watch Bellagio perform any song, and every cue fits the music precisely, even when the motions are relaxed and flowing rather than quick and intense.

I did call the concierge at Bellagio twice.

The first time, she only had the schedule for the week of Dec 30, and it still had the holiday lineup.

So I called again this week, the woman I spoke to didn't have the new schedule, but she did call fountain tech and got the information for that day (Tuesday the 7th). My impression is that once they put a new schedule into effect, each day of the week is the same (ie each Tuesday is the same) until they change it again.

So I at least had tentative info to schedule the ride.

I'm arriving today, so I'll go over to Bellagio and see if I can confirm. Thanks for the tip about the desk where they have the schedules.

I just checked my files to see if I have a Bellagio printed schedule, and though I think I do, I can't find it. (All I found was one for the Waters of Americana at Brand, a WET Design show in Glendale, CA.) I believe that's not correct, or didn't used to be; as far as I know, a new schedule is put together each week. But that may not be right.

But yes, pick up a schedule when you're there. Sometimes they have a date printed on them, i.e. "Fountains of Bellagio schedule for the week of..." If you're having a special occasion, I think they've occasionally acquiesced to playing a specific show on request at a certain time.

P.S. One of the aforementioned discontinued songs was the orchestral version of the Pink Panther theme, and I was sad to see it go. Every Bellagio song has at east one unique aspect to the choreography, and that one made the Oarsmen almost human: in some segments, the jets would move on to the next pattern, but a few would keep running the last one before, at various times, halting, "looking around" at the others, then copying them! (An early version of the "Lucy in the Sky" show had a similar bit where, after the fade-out, one single Oarsman would come on and wiggle for a few moments before looking left, right, left, taking a bow and dropping.)
