    My Trip Report

Bit tardy, but better late than never?!

Quick trip with friend R for some low level craps, BJ and whatever else comes our way.

I signed up for an Identity card during my last trip in May, played the touchscreen game they had at the time and won $35 in free play. Turned that into $32 and cashed out and played a little craps where I gave them the card. Some, but very little activity on their books.

In any case it resulted in the standard corporate offer of Sun-Thurs comped room or Fri-Sat resort credit. Interestingly my friend R was with on that same trip, signed up for Identity, played more than I did on the card, and did NOT get the offer!

R and I booked the trip leaving MSP 8AM Sunday, returning 10PM Tuesday. He ended up getting a Travelocity deal for the room, resort credit and some free play, and he was fine with that.

We’re both low-level gamblers wanting to improve our craps game. To that end we’ve been reading The Dice Doctor for the past several months and were looking forward to moving beyond passline and a place bet or two.

Flight out on Sun Country was uneventful – R insisted on a cocktail so screwdrivers at 730am it was, which led to some sleep on the flight. Landing in LAS we found a cab (I said ‘no tunnel’ and he thought I was crazy for thinking he’d go that route) and $20 later we’re at the Cosmo.

One person in line so basically no waiting – check in was seamless, I did not try a $20 trick but they offered to upgrade me for a fee; I declined. Boy was it nice to see a $0 room charge, first time for me! The rooms weren’t ready but they gave us keys and said we would be texted when rooms were ready and the keys would work. Dropped our bags at the bellhop, who was extremely polite and accommodating – in fact I would say all of the staff at Cosmo were fantastic during our stay.

We hoofed it across the way to Walgreens for some provisions, and while crossing the street I got my text that the room was ready. R got his text a few minutes later. We then had a quick bite at McD and a after a stop at the PH Starbucks (the line was incredibly long and sloooow) we decided to get into the room, get settled and then start some gambling.

I was in the East tower, R in West. I thought the room was great, could have been higher but for the price I wasn’t complaining. It said 15th floor but I think it’s really more like 5, seems that 10 stories are missing from the elevator buttons. My room looked straight out at PH and the Britney sign with some pool area below. Only complaint was the wood smoke smell, guessing it was from Jaleo. Plenty of room for one person, two TVs, nice bath area. I’ve stayed at Aria several times and Cosmo is the same, but different. Equally nice and luxurious, but in different ways; Aria has a more Teutonic feel to it while Cosmo has a Latin flair, if that makes any sense.

R and I met up a while later and it sounded like his room layout was exactly like mine, but he got a higher floor (presumably because he wasn’t on a comp?). He was playing some VP at book and stage, playing max bet and as the bartender said “keep doing that and drinks are on me.” We stayed for a while, watching football, chatting with the bartenders, etc. R played through his $40 and I bought in for $100 and the Ketel-tonics started to flow. I managed to make the $100 last for a few hours with no major wins. This was my first time playing VP and I really didn’t know what I was doing, I definitely need to read up on strategy, but I guess I was playing it more for the social atmosphere of the bar and having fun with it so I didn’t mind losing.

Wandered over to the $10 craps tables; R played passline, single odds and an occasional come bet; I dabbled in that plus playing the field a la the Dice Doctor. R had mild success and I did not – I was all over the place on my strategy, flip flopping (this is the story of my whole trip) and I slowly lost most of my $300 buyin. R did OK on some sports bets he made so he was feeling good, the drinks were helping too! Awesome service by the CWs for the entire trip.

After a while we wandered out and found some BJ; as far as payouts go the dealers said any BJ that is dealt from a show is 3:2. We found a $10 table, bought in for $200 and were very quickly slaughtered – it was fast and brutal.

Played a bit more craps and decided to head up for some Secret Pizza. I like the pizza, it’s cheap and gets the job done, it’s not the best pizza I’ve ever had but it works for me. We decided to call it a night as we were up v early and the booze was definitely kicking in.

I went up to the room, showered and after getting dressed decided to walk the strip a bit. I realized a plus to the East tower is that it is so close to the street, you’re outside very quickly. It was a cool night, 60s or so, and I walked the Bellagio to watch the fountains before heading back to turn in for the night.

Next morning I was up early, took care of a few work things and walked to PH for Starbucks. The line was even longer than the day before so I said fuckit and went back to Va Benne at Cosmo. Which, I then realized, brews Illy coffee, an Italian coffee I really love. In fact after looking around I realized this was an official Illy café, and I remember reading about it a while back. Gelato, Panini, etc.

It was 9am and the craps table was at $5. I had no idea where R was, so I called and he was still in bed. When I told him I was looking at a $5 craps table he said he’d be down in 30 minutes.

While waiting for him I played some video BJ at $1/hand and made $50 before cashing out. Knew I had a few work things to take care of, so I went back to the room to do that and, knowing R would have us start drinking sooner than later, ate a sandwich I had picked up at Walgreens the day before.

We met at 9:30 at the main craps table (the one that seems like is always open) and each of us bought in for $300. Here is the short version: I played there for about seven hours and R for two more, at the $5 level the entire time. No huge rolls, some nice ones but nothing to write home about, and we were up a hundred or so at the most. I did, however, roll the All Tall and won the table some money and I was ONE NUMBER away from the All Small! And the number I couldn’t hit – a 6! Oy.

The dealers and pit bosses were great, joking with us and the crowds and helping our novice asses when needed. In fact I realized the next day, the only time we really made any money was when one of the dealers (Steve?) more or less did our betting for us. After our first and second come bet he’d just tell us how many chips to give him to rebet/press/odds/place and he’d take care of it for us. We both learned a lot from watching him, plus it made things a lot easier…

Eventually I lost my buyin, I was up and down all day, went dark a few times and gave up on the field play after the previous day’s loss. One kid next to me turned $100 into $1100, I wish I’d been paying more attention to his betting strategy, I know he was playing a field bet along with his passline bets. Not happy with the loss but had a ton of fun … and drinks.

Brief second to comment on the crowd – really a different vibe on Sunday vs Monday. You could tell the kool kids were gone on Monday and the conventioneers took their place. I can see how people get annoyed with the weekend night time younger crowd in the casino.

While R was still rolling at the $5 min level I decided to lose $150 at roulette and another $100 at video BJ.

At this point we were both pretty well shnockered. I was ready to head to the room and R wanted pizza again. We parted ways, and I went to the room to clean up, shower, and get dressed.

People, here is where my TR turns. As we all know this is an adult board so I don’t think this will offend or freak anyone out. When I say “get dressed”, I mean that I, as a male, returned to my room, showered, and dressed as a woman. Makeup, heels, wig, lacy underwear, dress, yep, then whole deal – I am a crossdresser. I’ve been doing so for a long, long time but only in the privacy of my own home. After a couple trips to Vegas in the last 4-5 years, and many, many years of crossdressing in private I made the decision to go out in public on this trip. I have come to the realization that a crossdresser in Vegas rates about a .5 on the scale of 1-10, so if not here, where; if not now, when?

I realize this is a board about Vegas and not crossdressing so I won’t go into the details about that (unless someone really wants me to, then PM), but I like to think I am fairly passable. Or the booze tells me I’m passable lol.

Back to the night before, I left R after we ate pizza, I dressed in the room. And after I decided I looked like a hundred bucks ["Fletch" reference] I said fuckit and walked out of my room, through the casino and straight on to the GD Las Vegas Boulevard. I was so nervous and excited and do you know what? It didn’t even register with anyone (that I noticed). I walked down and watched the fountains at the B, didn't muster a glance from anyone, and then realized that walking in high heels is hard f'in work! Girls, I have an appreciation for how difficult it is.

Back to Monday night, I cleaned up, dressed and decided to take the next step (ref again the booze). I called R and asked him to meet me by the cashier cage in 10 minutes. I also made him promise to not tell anyone what was about to happen.

Ten minutes later we met – R was flabbergasted to say the least, and I was on cloud nine. I was out in public and talking to someone I knew. I can’t express enough how liberating it was, like I said, I have only ever done this in private, nobody knows about this part of me. After the initial shock R was OK with it (ref booze once again), and I said “why don’t we go get a drink?”

We went to the Bond bar and ... had a cosmo at the Cosmo. WOW what a delicious cocktail, seriously. I’m sure it’s pure booze but you’d never know it. We had a great conversation, he had a lot of questions and I was happy to finally talk about this part of me with someone I know. Of course I’m feeling somewhat self-conscious the entire time; I like to think I’m passable but I know I’m not, and while I saw some people giving me a look or two, the vibe I got the entire time was “eh, look at that, so what, it’s Vegas.” The bartender we had more-or-less confirmed this, when I sort of asked if a crossdressing freak was a big deal she just replied “are you kidding? You’re at a bar - in Las Vegas!!!” ‘nuff said. In my defense, she also said that Wednesday nights draw a drag/crossdressing crowd at Bond, and that I looked better than all but the drag queen pros. So I got that going for me!

We ended up chatting with an English couple next to us … we bought them a round, they bought us a round (cosmos), they could not believe this was my first outing dressed and that R didn’t know this about me… and they wanted to learn craps, so R decided we needed to teach them the ropes. At this point the night turns hazy (cosmos), I know I went back to my room and changed into some killer heels and then I remember being at the craps table not knowing what any of my bets were. It was at this point I realized I needed to call it a night… and I did my best impression of a drunk girl unable to walk in heels. But it was no impression. Seriously – guys – I look back on this now and I was with it enough to understand that my shoe was not on my foot yet I kept thinking "oh fck, don't be the crossdressing freak who can't walk in heels"; walking and laughing to myself realizing I am, indeed, "that girl" (uh, but I’m a guy).

Anyway … FF to Tuesday morning. I was able to get a noon checkout; called R around 10 and he was already checked out of his room. “I needed to get out of there” were his words. Turns out at some point in the night he needed to kiss the porcelain gods, but didn’t make it past the edge of his bed. :vomit:He said he left a $20 tip with a note, “sorry”. What a jackass.

We dealt with our hangovers at Va Benne and R said he was done gambling. After I did a quick round of the casino I found the dealer Steve at a table and said we needed to go one last round with his help. We immediately pocketed our cab fare, R left up $100 or so and I $80. Thanks, Steve!

Both of us checked the Identity desk just before we left – I hadn’t ever received an email offer from them and wanted to check that my info was correct. Sure enough my email was typoed. I was rated at $300 loss in machine play and 12 hours @ $41 average bet; R rated 16 hours @ $38. Seemed high to me but I'm new to this part of gaming.

    Uneventful trip home.

Since this trip I am feeling like a new person. I lost about $1000 gambling – which totally sucks – but the fun I had going out and talking with R while being this other person made it all worth it. I am posting this under a new ID I created… R joked at the tables that his name was Oliver; I said we were at the Cosmo so he had to class it up and be “Olivier”. Later that night I was christened Olivia.

I haven’t seen a TR like this before, and I hope it doesn’t bring out some dark side (no craps puns intended) personalities ranting with hate; I like this site because it seems like we all let everything fly because it’s Vegas. Having said that I am planning to return in Jan over MLK weekend and plan to go out, dressed, again. It’d be a blast to be “that guy” hanging out with other VMBers if anyone’s going to be around. I already have flights booked and a corner suite at Aria.

Because of the fairly plain thread title I was just skimming the report to find the juicy parts! Got to half way and had to read properly from the start.

Congrats on the successful public appearance.

Great TR, and I'm happy you found a place where you feel comfortable being yourself. You almost have made me want to to give the Cosmo a try (during the week, of course).

Thanks for the TR. Vegas is THAT place where you can be whatever you want to be. I rarely drink in Nashville...but in Vegas I don't draw a sober breath for 3 days. I have never been to a strip club in Nashville...Lets just say I have been to my share in Vegas. Its a place to have fun and enjoy doing what you don't get to normally do. So, good on you for doing your thing and enjoying your time there. And I seriously doubt you will encounter any harsh words on this board or even in public there. A raised eyebrow or an occasional stare, but Vegas regulars have seen so many things there that one more cross dresser in town barely even registers as something different.

Great TR, and thanks for sharing your first outing with us. I'm glad you were able to feel comfortable expressing that part of yourself, Vegas certainly seems the perfect place for it!

Thanks for sharing your TR with us. Proud of you for being YOU for the first time in public. Last time I wore heels in Vegas, it was awful! I wore 140mm heels (but with a platform, so more like 120mm, but still!) and I wore them for about 12 hours straight - dinner, show, dancing, etc. At the end of the night, two of my toes went completely numb and stayed that way for several days! I swore I'd never wear heels in Vegas again. LOL! So I know exactly you felt trying to walk in heels in Vegas. I honestly don't know how people do it!

We'd love to see your before and after pics. I'm sure you're "passable" as you say. LOL!

That was a fun read and good on you for enjoying the freedom of Vegas to cut loose and be yourself! Happy "Oliver" didn't react negatively....would have loved to see his face when you surprised him. Thanks for acknowledging the hell of walking in heels in Vegas we women endure; I live in heels but typically don't walk great distances in them like I do in Vegas.......feet bitching with every step once a stroll turns into a marathon down the strip! You should "dress" on your next trip in January and go to see Divas....bet that would be fun!

Great TR and congratulations; it's great to be comfortable with yourself.

I gave up high heels many years ago, and I'm female. I give you huge credit for walking in these. :wink2:

Good info about the Cosmo; we're staying there next month.

As I began to read your report, I was trying to figure out if you and R were men or women. Not sure if you were purposefully being vague or not, but I was not expecting that though. Congratulations.

I hope you learned a lesson from both your trip and your post... People will like you for who you are, no matter what you're wearing. Do you, even if some people think its different.

    Thanks everyone!

Thank you to all for the kind words of encouragement. I am happy that you confirmed my suspicions about how the board would react. :peace:

hedgehog - Walgreens sells packaged deli sandwiches, fruit, etc near the coolers. I wouldn't say it's the best sandwich in the world but for a cheap eat on the strip it works.

JosieCat, Huddler, TheCanoe and others thank you again for your kind words. It's a treat to hear from people whose posts I've been reading for a long time! (now where the hell is BeeJay?) JosieCat, I want to party with you, fellow Twin City friend. I need you to show me what kind of slot play merits those offers you get from Aria. I am totally jealous.

And thanks for the sympathetic shout out on my gambling loss. I have every intention of turning it around next trip!!!

Thank you 'Olivia' for the great trip report. I'm glad you had a great time, felt comfortable enough to be yourself and I'm very glad your friend was accepting of it also!

Believe it or not there are heels that are more comfy than others. Hopefully you can find a pair before the next trip!
