    My Trip Report

    Day one:

Long travel day, but got to LV about 8:00 PM, checked into GN Carson tower room. Not bad, but not great. The GN is really nice, checked out the pool which I will use tomorrow for sure. The daytime temps are in the 70s.

Walked around Fremont Street tonight. It started out great and got better through the night. I started out with a burger at the sports bar at Binions. Decent burger and fun talking with bartender about the Binions of pre-Becky.

On to the Four Queens. Signed up for players card and got a $10 BJ match play coupon. Found a BJ table played $10 and the match play. I got lucky and caught an 11 vs. A dealers four. Naturally, I doubled down and told the dealer to put my double card face down. Dealer busted and it was cool to see when she turned over a two for my double card. Very nice start to trip. Went to D, pretty cool place. Won a little there at BJ also.

Did an about face and decided to see how dead the Plaza really was. Wow, haven't seen a casino that dead, or dismal, since the El Rancho way back in the day. The only thing that was worse than the Plaza tonight was the LVC. Jesus, what the hell happened to that place? It reminded me of one of those open air bars in Thailand or the Philipines from my navy days. For a place that had some very, very good BJ games years ago it appears that the LVC is on its death bed.

Four queens was fun and then I went to the Golden Gate. I hadn't played Let it Ride for umpteen years so I played a little and lost $50 so I took my remaining $50 to a craps table and walked away with a little over $150 after a Hawaiian dude had a nice roll, making a lot of 4,5,9 & 10s.

FSE is shut down again tonight and tomorrow night between midnight and eight am, but it looks like it is about done.

BJ games are so-so. GN is the only property I've been to DT, so far, that does not have any $5 table games of any kind, at least before midnight.

Daiquiris for breakfast tomorrow, followed by a swim and daytime trip to the strip. Tomorrow night I'll check out DTG, MSS, California Club.

So far, so good. Really looking forward to MSS and the Cal...........:peace::beer:

    Great report so far Mike.

That's good news. After seeing so many delays building the first part of the zipline, I was wondering if the estimates for installing the cables would actually work out. Hopefully the shut down isn't affecting your movement too much.

The Las Vegas Club always amazes me. Such a prime piece of real estate yet management just seems to ignore it. I'd be putting more effort into the LVC rather than the Plaza if it were mine. It just doesn't make sense to me why they are letting it waste away like they are.

Looking forward to the next installment!

Day two is in the books. Overall a great day. It started out on a down note when I took a shower this morning and I found myself standing in ankle deep water in the shower. Called maintenance and they fixed the clog ASAP. Next time I stay at GN I will definitely get a rush tower room vs.the Carson tower. I will say that all the staff I have encountered at the GN have been superb.

Started the day out with a bus ride to the strip. Those 24 hour bus passes are well worth it. I got off at Circus Circus and saw firsthand the desolation that used to be the Stardust, Frontier, Sahara and whatever is going on at the Fontainebleau. Walked from CC to mirage and had a great lunch buffet.

Walked around the strip for a bit and took a cab back to DT and checked out MSS and the Cal. I'm not keen on Boyd's BJ games but the casinos were fun and lively during the afternoon. I made my way to the Golden Gate, which I am really beginning to enjoy a lot. Funny thing happened there. Went to the men's room and saw a set of dentures in the urinal. There has GOT to be a great story behind that. Couldn't muster up the nerve to take a leak on some poor dudes teeth so I moved to the next urinal. However, I was tempted to take a pic, but that would have been so wrong on so many levels ;) During the day the stripper dealers/dancers are only dealers, sans go-go dancing. The music there, the cal, is pretty good. I found myself playing a lot of carnie games and caught two straight flushes in three hands at three card poker. Let it ride was bad to me again. Love playing craps at the Cal, reminds me of Binions back in the day.

Ate dinner at the GN buffet. Regrettable..........

Had a ball on FSE tonight. I am now thoroughly convinced that FSE is the best people watching venue in the galaxy, and I used to live in NYC. The people dressed up as characters cracked me up. To wit: Mr T and Tupaq, a very good version of Nicholson and DeNiro, a little person version of Mr. T, two dudes with rather average physiques in Tarzan meat hanger thongs, Marlboro Man and Tonto, and the list goes on. There was a GREAT cover band between Binions and Mermaids playing classic rock. Without doubt the best cover band I have ever seen. Huge crowd. Their name is "Yellow Brick Road". If you like classic rock you'll really like them.

The Zipline is supposed to be open tomorrow, Friday, at eight am. Last night, Wednesday, they actually had FSE open between the Plaza and the Fremont.

I put off DTG until Friday. I want to see their VP pay schedules and BJ games on a weekend night. Played a little BJ at ElCo; good games.

The D is very nice and very busy but they play techno music at an impossibly high volume, not my thing......

Checking out the south strip tomorrow morning and the DTG at night. I have tickets to see Gordie Brown at the GN tomorrow night.

That's all the news that's fit to print for now, I'll check in in another 24 hours......:peace::beer:

Day three: Short day trip to the strip. Venetian had a huge conference that ended and I stood in line there for 30 min or so to catch a cab. Construction still going on at Quad and more pods on the High Roller.

Visited DTG and I have to say it is nice. Very nice. The dealers and pit personnel were great. Good BJ shoe games, $5, 3:2, DAS. Pitch games no DAS. I did a little VP pay schedule scouting. Lots and lots of 7/5, but I did see one 9/5 bar top machine. I don't know enough about VP to go much further......
The DTG has a nice feel to it and if they keep their shoe games with the current rules I'll be back. Music was classic rock, not exceedingly loud like the D.

As of now the Zip Line is not open downtown. I'll update this through my stay.

Took a few losses at the tables today. Nothing terrible, but I hate losing......ugh.

Had a nice early dinner at the Chart House at the GN. Great food and service and reasonably priced.

I have tickets to see Gordie Brown tonight at the GN. Looking forward to watching the Nebraska game tomorrow and the Packers game on Sunday at MSS.

Finally won big at Let it Ride, but gave it back, and then some, on some really bad BJ shoes at the GN. Craps games at the Golden Gate are a lot of fun. Great craps crews and lively games. I'm looking to play Carribean Stud, but haven't found a game yet.

Looking forward to checking out the DTG again tonight when it should be busier than it was earlier today. The casino part of DTG is right next to the Fremont; easy and safe walk.

Day Four: I saw Gordie Brown at the GN last night. He does a lot of impersonations in a music comedy act. It was fun and I recommend it. He has a good band and his impersonations are spot on, both sound wise and visually.

Another day trip to the strip, rather non eventful, with the exception that I had the same cab driver as I had two days ago. Staggering odds.........

I've been playing a lot of the table poker games, LIR, three card, UTH, High Flush Draw. They don't have these games where I live and have been playing a lot of them. I know the books say to not to bet the bonus but I've been playing the bonus and caught two 4 card straight flushes at High Flush Draw to the tune of over $400 each and have caught a ton of flushes in three card. I finally exacted some revenge in LIR with trip aces.

Way up for the trip, starting to slow down my play so I can have Vegas pay for my trip and go home with a tidy profit.

Looking forward to FSE tonight and more dice at the Golden Gate.

That's all for now. Go Packers vs. Giants!!!

Day Five. Been having a blast DT. Went to the DTG and asked the BJ pit boss where I could get a nice steak dinner. He pointed across the street to Triple George. Incredible NY strip, great service and ambiance. Not overpriced at all.

I met up with fellow VMB member Joe this morning at MSS. We chatted a bit and he introduced me to his wife. It's kinda cool meeting some of the VMB people out here.

The Las Vegas rock and roll marathon went down Fremont Street tonight. It was pretty cool seeing the marathon, but especially through the FSE.

I've started to slow/low roll, and have been able to add to my bankroll. The penny slots have actually been kind of fun. I love the ones that give you free bonus spins.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Mob Museum and do a little souvenir shopping.

This has been a great trip and thanks to all the great people on VMB for all their help in helping me plan and execute one helluva great week!!!:peace::beer:

Triple George can be comped by the Downtown Grand hosts too (was told that by someone that experienced it).

Nice report! With regards to the 9/5 VP at the bar, do you recall which game that was? It isn't bad for jacks or better, but not as great for double double bonus.

Not sure Trig, I am not well versed in VP. I was just doing a quick scouting mission and most of the bar top machines were 7/5 so when I saw 9/5 I made a mental note of it to pass it along to all the VP players........ :peace::beer:
