If you are having bad luck, can you request a shuffle? Or would you need to sit out the deck/shoe until it's fully dealt? What if you are the only player?

I've requested a shuffle lots of times when I was the only player and have always been accommodated, especially when I refused to play until the cards were shuffled!

I've requested an early shuffle many times and have always been accommodated...I was playing $25 to $100+ a hand at a table by myself.

Shoot, wish I could get away with that. Whenever the count is negative, just request a shuffle.

Sadly, my only option is to wong out.

Newbie question... Why would one want to ask for an early shuffle?

Counters prefer an abundance of high value cards (9, 10, A - varies with the particular counting method being used) remaining to be dealt, so when the remaining cards have a concentration of low values (2-6), a new shuffle might correct an unfavorable distribution. Most of us, however, just want to try changing things when losing. Some players change seats, others might try playing two hands instead of one, and it's common to stop playing altogether and wait for the next shuffle in the hope of doing better. Of course, the latter is hard to do when you're the only one playing, so requesting a new shuffle is a reasonable request. While a new shuffle may not turn things around, it's basically a case of when something isn't working, try changing something – anything!

If you've just sat through 10 consecutive losing hands and the other things you mentioned, then I doubt shuffling is going to help! :) That dealer is obviously on fire and I'd run, not walk, to the nearest exit! Of course, if you play 2-deck pitch games as I prefer, you won't get that many hands without a shuffle anyway.

A few different ways I see this shuffle issue:

    1) If you are playing a negative expectation game, the optimal bet size is $0. If the dealer is shuffling, you aren't betting, so that's a good thing.

    2) If you are going thru a 'bad run', its slightly more likely that more small cards (2-6) have been played vs high cards (10-A). This favors the dealer. Requesting a shuffle at this point is not a good thing, since many of the cards that will help you remain to be played.

I ask for shuffles all the times.

sometimes you get on a run and win 90% of a shoe. the pit just asks for more chips

sometimes you are on the opposite end of that shoe and losing. If you had the bankroll you could probably make it back?

Other time I ask for shuffle. You get tons of 18s and 19s and 20s. Its just that when you have 19, dealer has 20. When you get 20, dealer pushs.

Tons of big card for both, just not in the right order.

usually its the degenerate in us that cant walk away.

I've pulled this off a couple times even when not alone at the table: the count is really negative and the other players are losing as well. I 'take a poll' and tell the dealer "If we boycott that shoe, i.e. nobody wants to bet anymore, can you shuffle?" They always have to ask the boss, but if you've been personable and the dealer is in a good mood, they'll probably go for it, at least once.

I'm guessing if I'm betting $5 a hand they would probably ignore my request for a reshuffle. Oh well.

A few weeks ago at the MGM Grand Detroit:

I sit down at a $10 BJ table with two other guys playing. Shoe is nearing the end, I tell the dealer I'll wait.

The two other guys get killed (one of them is playing two hands). They both leave the table before the shoe is over. Shoe is maybe only a few hands from the end. I am the only one left at the table.

I ask if the dealer can shuffle. She asks pit boss. Pit boss goes back and forth fretting over this question. He finally decides and says that they can only shuffle before the end of the shoe like that in the high limit room.

I asked the pit boss if I left the table so it was empty, wouldn't the proper protocol be for her to shuffle anyway??

Suddenly one of the guys who got killed earlier is back with more money. He plays the last few hands of the shoe solo. Dealer gets a ton of little cards to pull good hands out of her ass.

When the new shoe begins, I join and have a really good session. :evillaugh

I've run into this at the Fremont a few times on their two-deck game.
Playing head-to-head, I'll want to 'wong out' as the remaining deck is horrible. So, I ask for a re-shuffle. Dealer tells me that "sorry - I can't as long there's at least one player". So, I tell her I'm 'out' until the next shuffle.
She looks confused for amoment, and then looks for the pit.
So, I made it easy for her. I pushed my chips in and said, "go ahead and color me out". She did. I stood up for a few moments.
She then killed the deck and started to shuffle for her 'spread', so I sat back down, threw two green out and asked for change.
Another time, the dealer did NOT start to shuffle when I colored-up, so I went to the restroom.
By the time I got back, the cards were spread, so I sat back down.

I don't even try to count shoe games, so if I run into a bad run on a shoe, I'll just sit out a hand or two and jump right back in. (Assuming I'm not the only player).

I always laugh when people ask for a shuffle. Typically when they do it is of mo help and at least I'm my casino most of the ones asking think they are professionals yet they know little strat. Can't say for Vegas but the policy at our casino is the floor makes the call but typically they only give it in the high limits room (note I don't deal hl). On the main floor the shoe games are 15/25 min and at least one floor will give it only if you have a players card.

What is really annoying is most of the ones at our casino that ask for them also are rude and demanding, won't tip, will cuss you out for their stupid playing.

To add, we do not hand shuffle, I think one or two games in hl might but on the floor we either run six deck continuous shufflers which are in our party pit or eight deck shoes.

I would only request it if at a table by myself. Usually I would just get up and go to a different table.

    That is all !
