Below is a site that you can search for unclaimed money. I posted this a few years ago and several members got good results. My brother found and received over $3,000 and one member on the board claimed over $2,000. You just click on the state/states that there's a possibility of having a claim and follow the directions for that state. Good luck! http://www.unclaimed.org/
I had a claim on there once. The address listed for me was that of my former employers main office. To claim it, I needed an ID or a utility bill with that same mailing address on it. So, in other words.........I never got my claim because I did not reside at my employers address. Some of you may have money to claim, but good luck getting it!
No. Not everything they have has an SSN linked to it. Some things are just name and last known address. They ask for your SSN for tax purposes, but because I didn't provide them with a valid ID with my former employers address on it, nor a utility bill with the same, my claim was denied. Even though it was clearly for me, I didn't meet their 'criteria' to claim this missing money. No big deal, I probably would have given it all to Vegas anyways!
I heard about that around a year ago and did a search, but no dice for me. I had hoped to find some in KY -- when I was a young, dumb(er) Joe and didnt know better, I started a retirement fund with a company there that I think was through a door to door salesman. I contributed for only a few months but saved up a few hundy. They told me up front that if you stop within a certain amount of time you cannot get your money back. Even worse, I threw out all the documentation (yes, a total bonehead move I admit) I dont even recall the name of the company but I wish I would have fought to recover at least some of it. Live and Learn I suppose...
Cool site - I checked my name and found $60 apparently from an insurance claim from back in 2004. I checked some family members and found some for my mom and grandmother...my grandmother's shows from way back in 1972
I searched many years ago and had $25 or something like that. Wasn't worth giving out my information and risking it for $25.
Individual states often have a way to find out about unclaimed funds. Avoid sites that want to charge a fee, since you can file the claim yourself. We have made several successful claims. In each case, I had to get a copy of a death certificate or trust agreement, or evidence that someone resided at a particular address at a particular time- stuff like that- but it was worth it. Agree that it's not worthwhile chasing $25. Our claims were for $100 or more.
Keep in mind, there might be funds you're not aware of. Like somebody died and left you something or you were a beneficiary on something and somehow you weren't notified. Not everybody keeps things up to date. It's not always money you had put away that you knew about and somehow forgot about. It might be money you never knew about.
Following up on LolaDoggie: YES! Check names of the dear departed. That's where all of our finds came from. One was a thousand dollar life insurance policy we had no idea existed.
I thought I searched before and didn't find anything. but I just searched again and I had one thing for $50. I called them up and they're mailing it to me. pretty cool. I also found over $400 from my deceased uncle that my dad will be able to claim as heir.
Thanks for the link Don. There was nothing there for me, but for one of my sons just over $2,000. He can really use the money. It was from an insurance claim.
This should be interesting I'm actually on there BUT they dropped a number from my old address. I just emailed also it says amount/ from who not disclosed. Also one of my sisters are there too, lol. Thanks
No, sorry, what I meant was, you might have been a beneficiary to something and not known about it. Like grandpa had a small life insurance policy nobody knew about and you were the beneficiary on it. Also, check common mis-spellings and maiden/former names.
Just a quick follow up, my sister got a check for over 300. bucks today cause I saw her name on there! I'm waiting on mine! Thanks again for the post!
