Table Games You've just won $1 Million...

I love to play 3 card poker at CET properties. I love the 6 card bonus "sucker" bet. For anyone who doesn't know, if you get a 9-A of diamonds it is worth a million bucks, which happened at Paris sometime last year. The dealers love telling the story. My question is, if you won a million, what would you tip the dealers? One dealer I talked to said this woman tipped $40,000.

 

Probably $5 maybe $10K

No more than $10k here. Maybe $5k. The bigger the payout, the lower the percentage, imo.

 

I find it hard to not just leave the few hundred I was playing with and get a check for the payout. I'm gambling with my money, windfall or not why would I give even 10k to the dealer, a complete stranger because I was risking my money?

 

On my last trip to Bally's a few weeks ago I had my best ever 3 card poker session. I bet the $5 min on all the bets and usually buy in with 100. The cards were very kind to me and I saw many straights and flushes. The best hands were those I lost and when the dealer turned his hand I would win. I even had a few 5 card straights and full houses....left the table with my first purple chip and 3 blacks.

The biggest news of that trip was on my last night Sun Oct.27, I saw a crowd gathering around one of the 3 card tables and walked over to see what was going on. The pit boss was there having the player that was sitting in the 3rd base position signing papers...I peeked over the crowd to see a 6 card royal with hearts...he had won 100,000. Not the million, but he was pretty happy.

 

I think $5000 would be plenty. Though I think it might be easy to get caught up in the excitement and over tip. I might go 10K, but certainly no more than that.

If you figure that Uncle Sam and your state are going to take about half of that million, $5000 would be a 1% tip on the net.

 

Wow, people like to throw that money around. $500 would be the tip, maybe 1K if I were real drunk, and they can take it or leave it. I bet they'd take it.
I'd like to believe the dealer that it was a 40K tip, but I just don't. It's the dealer who's telling the story.

 

I might give it all to the dealer. That would make headlines. Then I'd write a book about giving and being charitable. I'd go on Oprah and my book would make millions. I'd give paid speeches at philanthropic events to rooms full of billionaires. Then I'd sell the movie rights.

 

I think $1000-$2000would be more than enough. I know that 1 million is a good amount of money, but it doesn't go as far as it used to. With 1 million win I'm definitely not retiring yet. So if I'm still working for money I can't imagine giving away 10,000-40,000.

 

I would like to hear the logistics of this since you are not being handed a lump sum but an annuity and also how taxes would play into this since the $40K would have to be split amongst all of the dealers (and probably pit bosses) on the shift.

It's a lot more complicated than just passing $XK across the table, which is why I take a lot of these stories with a grain of salt.

 

I'd likely tip $1000. And I'd almost certainly give something to each of my fellow players at the table...perhaps $500 each.

The way some would tip is like giving the casino/dealer a hefty comp for having given you their money.

I would tip $100 and then tip anyone I remember from trips past who consistently gave me great service. If it happens to be in that casino, great!

I would not believe anything a dealer tells you when it comes to tips. They know how their bread is buttered and they play to that. They also know that no one can ever verify their tall tales.

The winner would have taken $1 million as a check or wire. It would probably not be right away either because for that type of payout they would need to carefully check its validity just as they do for the largest slot jackpots - which take several hours.

Why would they just have $40,000 in cash to give to the dealer?

 

If she really did tip $40,000, she probably told the boss she wanted $960,000 in a check and the rest in cash, or something like that. It's quite simple for them to split up a big jackpot like that.

I don't know if this $1,000,000 is paid in an annuity or not. It easily could be just cash.

 

I'd probably give a couple of black chips to every player at the table who was there and high five-ing me, not to mention if they are still at the table they are out of the action for the entire time they are verifying my hand.

 

As I normally do, I'm going against the grain here.

The dealer would get exactly $0.

I'd rather give money to a worthwhile charity, a person in need, or someone I care about. Dealers do not qualify.

 

5k Tip for me! Anyone who deals me a lifechanging amount of cash is getting a decent tip from myself, Id gladly hand that amount over!

Assuming it was just a lump sum vs an annuity. $5k-$15k split up between the dealer and other players. Basically $2k-$3k to me would make it an awesome trip if I was given that and I'm just wanting to share in my great fortune. The dealer wouldn't get anymore than any single player.

Its a once in many lifetime event. I realize many people couldn't imagine just giving away 10k. I can't imagine this either, but I can't also image winning a million.
