Is South point still worth the night trip

We stay on the strip, and our best part of our Bankroll per day is spent at night. Micro during the days.

Our Vegas trips are usually 5 nights, with a one night Special excursion away from the strip.

All of our Vegas trips, Downtown has been the one night excursion.

We need somthing different, and instead of Downtown, thinking about SouthPoint.

We can get there by shuttle via ARIA, or the BUS, so transport is not the issue.

Is Southpoint a nice option, or should we consider something else?

Must be transport friendly, for we do not rent a car (and drink too much).

 

South Point is a pleasant casino with some fair games. I enjoy staying and gambling there, but never thought of it as a destination.

 

Not sure what you play. The pit is usually jumping there. Slots and VP not so much. Not really any great places to eat.

 

We play mostly VP, 3 Card Poker, and Pai Gow Poker. Maybe a slot or two if we start seeing double on the VP screens.

Since we plan to stay at either PH or Paris, the CET VP at the 25c levels is best at BP 7/5 (98.01%).

Southpoint is said to have at the 25c level, 9/6 JOB (for her), and NSUD (for me). This is a huge upgrade from CET pay tables.

So the food is no good there? We were thinking about dinner at Primarily Prime Rib for...... wait for it...... Prime Rib. So this is no good?

 

I'm a big fan of Primarily Prime Rib (eaten there twice, would definitely do it again if I was staying there again). I also really enjoyed Zenshin on my last trip there.

 

VP is definitely worth the trip. Tons of 99%+ machines, including most popular "gimmick" games, which are hard to find at 99%+. STP, Double STP, Ultimate X. All these games are 99%+ after the bonus bets at the quarter level. 8/5 Bonus w/Double STP (99.67%) is the highest Double STP game in the country I'm aware of. Can't comment on the food. We quickly ate at the only Steak 'n' Shake that I have ever seen that closes...:evillaugh

Also, I'd recommend when playing at PH to also consider 7/5 Bonus w/STP (98.29%).

 

But is the PH 5c 7/5 Bonus STP a three line games = 75c Plus the STP 5+1 = 90c per bet?

 

It is only a one night destination, just like going to DT.

Done the GC, Palms, but that is a day trip for us in micro roller mode.

Night Play with Dinner starter, is this OK?

 

Primarily Prime is great and very reasonable in the price department. Ate there twice a few weeks ago. SP isn't fancy but since you are used to DT that shouldn't be an issue. We end every trip with 2 nights there. Our gambling budget seems to last much longer there. Don't be afraid.

 

South Point would be an excellent choice if you like to play video poker. The prime rib place is excellent. Was also impressed with Steak n shake.

 

If it were me I would consider a destination of the M casino.

They have a cool vibe, lots of good food and a really nice casino area.

Not sure as to a shuttle on how to get there as I have always driven the rental car there.

 

Yes, it's either nickels, dimes, or quarters for 3 play/5 play/10 play. So 3-line nickels would be 90c. But with STP, you're not required to play all the lines to make the max bet either. This is good to know because some casinos up the paytable when playing more lines (PHo doesn't do this however).

Blue Chip in Indiana used to offer 9/6 JoB w/STP for quarters on 10-play only, 9/5 for 3/5 play. Unfortunately they changed 10-play to 9/5 recently as well. At least I hit them good for my last crack of 9/6 there in August.

 

I would highly recommend the SP for dining (the steak house, Italian, the prime rib , very good or the Mex ) and gambling of all flavors. They even have a movie and bowling alley should the gamblin Gods go against you.....Enjoy

 

Agreed! Was just there 2 weeks ago. The bar-top VP at the big bar in the center, can't remember the name but it had a Polynesian theme, has quarter DDB with a royal progressive that was at $1700.+ when I got to tired to play one night and had to quit.

What a fun place, adult oriented crowd, the dealers were fun, good food selections, over 400 VP machines and the best payouts around. I only stayed for 2 nights and can't wait to go back.

Mind if I ask why on the DT part? I'm considering making a 1 night excursion with the GF downtown, but I'd love o hear reasons not to. We really are strip people, but this board is making me think maybe I am missing out on downtown. I've oly ever been during the day, and it didn't seem like something I would enjoy. However, a lot of people seem to think I'd like it at night. Seems like it would be (for me) too crowded, too Loud, too dirty, too many panhandlers, etc. not tryin to be pretentious, just honest. Sorry if it came across that way

 

If you want decent video poker compared to CET, then yes. Along with 9/6 JOB and NSUD, you might consider learning Double Bonus Deuces Wild, which pays out the highest of any VP games carried at South Point. It is volatile, but you can play it for quarters at a bank of four beautiful new slant tops. We had a lot of fun shooting craps there one night with a group. Haven't played much BJ there.

M Resort is a beautiful and intriguing place that has a good deli. It would be worth a looksee, but don't play video poker there. Maybe you could play at one place and just look aroud the other- maybe eat. I agree that South Point's food offerings that I have tried are not great. Haven't tried everything.

Double Bonus Duces Wild, WOW!!, sounds very interesting. Love Duces, and the Quads on Double bonus....

But what about the strategy? Will not play the games blind, and need a strategy sheet if we were to try it.

 

If you have never been to DT, IT IS A MUST DO!!!

And it must be a night!!! Daytime is dead compared to nights!

It is fun, and for each their own, but we just do not care for it after three tries, and will never go back. Not that there was anything bad, it is just not for us.

We once thought about a whole trip just to stay there (Golden Nugget = best rooms, and even their cheapest "Carson" rooms look nice, but never stayed, so we do not really know).

Anyways, you must check it out at night because:

Easy access to other casino, just a minute walk!
Great food Value!!!
Great Varity, including the drunks.....

I really haven't played much Double Bonus Deuces Wild, but the strategy is a somewhat different than deuces. 5 Aces are worth $200 at quarters now and 4 2's w/Ace is $500, so holding an Ace even with a single deuce can be correct. The variance of the game is in-line with DDB now (40.39 vs. 41.98 for DDB)
