Thanks for the post. It's about time the north end of the strip gets some good fortune. Hopefully Echelon and Fontainebleau will get going soon as well.

    There is no more Echelon.

Resorts World Las Vegas will probably be the name. Boyd sold to Genting Group.

Resorts World will start construction in 2014.

No current plans to re-start construction or sell Fointainbleau.

I'm not familiar with the SLS brand, but it seems like they are well known on the west coast. Based on some of the comments from the CEO they may be catering to the non-gaming crowd. Nothing wrong with that, will it be another Cosmo?

They will definetely be going for the 21 to 35 club goers.

    Some similarities to Cosmo.

things I have read and heard is that they will be attempting to go after the "locals market" as much or more than anything similar to some things the hard rock does

but SLS is also suppose to have one of their towers be a "party tower" which has been implied to mean 8-10 to a room, coolers filled with cheap beer and lots of disturbance

those that were stating these "intentions" and rumors also stated they do not know if the SLS really has a full feeling for what they want to be or who they want to cater to, but that so far the ideas seem more of a miss than a hit.....at least in the opinions of those stating the "locals and party tower" rumors

The north end of the Strip certainly needs the boost. Once SLS and Resorts World get up and running, we'll see if somebody buys/renovates Riviera.

But that mess that is the remains of Fontainebleau needs to go, fast.

SLS Las Vegas resort to open Labor Day on the Strip

    Written by Matt Guillermo
    LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The hotel-casino property that once housed the Sahara will reopen as the SLS Las Vegas this Labor Day weekend.

Sam Nazarian, CEO of the property's owner, SBE Entertainment, posted Wednesday an official opening date for the property at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.

"It's been an incredible journey these past few years," Nazarian wrote on a blog for the SLS Las Vegas announcing the opening date. "Looking forward to toasting The Strip's next chapter with you!"

"We are 'back' indeed," Nazarian concluded in the short post...........

They're not really in the best location to be snotty and exclusive.

I think SLS can work well if positioned correctly. Many people want to go to Vegas, but not deal with the madness of the center strip. With all of the amenities that this property will have, along with a location midway between the strip and downtown, I could see this property working as more of a boutique getaway from the bad parts of Vegas. The concept is working at places like M Resort, Red Rock, Rumor Resort, etc.
