Cashiers check at the cage

Hello, I'm planning to deposit a cashiers' check with MGM at their front office on the day that I get there.

Problem is, I arrive Friday afternoon - does that give them enough time to cash it before I can play? Or do I have to wait until next day...

flight got all messed up and no time to make a last minute change. Any advice? OBviously don't want to carry all that cash.

Send them a PDF copy of the check via email to your host at least 1 full day before your arrival if it is your first time. If you do not have a host, call the main cage and either get a general email or a fax number and send them the check copy, again at least 1 full day before arrival with your player's ID number. Obviously, I am assuming that you have a player club card for that hotel.
If you are a known player and have set up a front money account before, then you can just walk in and it takes only 30 minutes for them to verify the cashier's check...

For something like this I wouldn't even rely on somebody's past experience or the speculation you might get here and would instead call MGM Grand, ask for the casino cage and then explain your situation and what you want and then get the answer directly from them.

Otherwise, you don't want to get there, find out there is a problem and that you have to wait until Monday or something before the check can be cashed... the argument of "I read some guy on the internet had no problem cashing a cashiers check at another property a few years ago" wouldn't likely sway them if things weren't working out.

 

Good suggestion Auggie. Can't rely too much on second-hand data, it probably varies from casino to casino and even at MGM depends on the players standing their comp level and so forth.

The amount is 50K, not small like a few thousands but not too large either. Just don't want to 'miss the boat' by not checking ahead... I think I should either have the bank contact them, or give some form of adv. notice.

 

For 50K I would have your bank wire the money to the casino cage. It will be there when you arrive.

I wouldn't ever carry more than 10K in cash. I wouldn't be surprised if this is around the threshold where TSA or others might consider holding you up thinking you are a drug dealer.

 

For those that carry large amounts of cash- be careful; THE POLICE WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY! It doesn't matter if you are charged with a crime or not. They will just take your money, then you are free to go (no charges).
