    My Trip Report

I so enjoy all the trip reports and want to thank you all by posting ours. I am 55 and Mom is 79. We love to play slots and try to get to Las Vegas at least once a year. If I can answer any questions please let me know. Enjoy

    FLIGHTS

Flew out of Philadelphia Nonstop on Southwest. Paid for the "early boarding" and had A28 and A29. Got our exit row seats and off we went. Plane was WiFi enabled and we got Free Dish TV during the flight. Not free WiFi mind you, just Free Dish TV. Worked great on Mom's IPad. Didn't work on my Nook. Plane arrived 30 minutes early into Las Vegas but our gate was occupied and we had to wait for the other plane to leave. So all and all arrived pretty much on schedule.

Return flight was originally delayed 3 hours due to a ground hold in Philadelphia. We called family and they told us that there were heavy downpours and flooding. We again paid for "early boarding" and were assigned positions B40 and B41. What's up with that? Southwest should really have a cut off point. That is just wrong. I asked if possibly a mistake was made (as I did change our flights more times than I could count) but the gate agent pointed to boarding pass which clearly said "early boarding". Since I didn't lose all the money I brought with me to Las Vegas I bit the bullet and paid an additional $40 per person for the gate upgrade to positions A12 and A13. Suddenly they made an announcement that the ground hold was lifted and they would begin boarding. The 3 hour delay turned out to be less than a 1 hour delay. It apparently caught quite a few folks off guard as the plane could not depart as 5 folks were missing. We were able to get our favorite exit row seats again. As folks were boarding after us I overheard a lady complaining that she paid $25 for a seat and now she can't even sit with her husband. There were no 2 seats together at that time. I asked what her number was and it was B10 and we would have been 20 people after her. I feel totally scammed by Southwest. Boarding the as the 100+ passenger on a 170 seat plane is not early boarding. At least my $40 was well spent for my comfort. Next time maybe I'll skip the early boarding and just pay the $40 at the gate. At least I would have saved $25.

    CAR SERVICE

I had booked car service through Presidential via their website for the round-trip airport special. The driver was waiting in baggage claim. He quickly grabbed our bags off the carousel and lead us downstairs to the pickup area. He had cold water waiting for us in the Lincoln Town Car and off to Caesars we went.

Return car service arrived on time but driver was confused. The car had the Presidential license plate and was at VIP entrance. I assumed he was there for us. I walked over to the car and asked if he was our driver. He asked the name and advised me no. He was there for someone else. Okay no problem. We sat and waited for another car. After about 5 minutes he walked back over to us and again asked my name. He apologized and stated he was there for us. He said he was reading ahead to his next pick up. No big deal but it did result in a little less tip. They again had cold water waiting for us. I could never be a limo driver. That maze they have to go through to drop us off at the terminal is crazy. The driver said it was a "dance" and he was used to it.

In the past we had always taken cabs. We've experienced cab drivers who didn't quite speak English, who were on their cell phone the entire ride, who were eating and the one that must have been a Indy race car driver before driving a cab. Not to mention the possible long hauls. This is the first time we used a car service. We were very pleased with the price and the service. It's really not that much more than a cab (considering the amount of money we put in slot machines). We would book them again without a second thought.

    HOTEL - Caesars Palace

We had the car service drop us off at the VIP side entrance on Flamingo as that is closest to the Diamond Room check in area. We arrived at 10am. There was no line and we were able to check in and get our room immediately. No early check in fee. Coffee, Tea, Cookies, and water were available in the Diamond check in area.

The check in desk person was not friendly but she was not rude either. I would say she was indifferent. Big difference from when I called the hotel to make spa reservations and spoke with a Concierge named Eric. Eric was a doll. He helped with all my needs, made some small talk and invited me to stop in and see him when we arrived. I was so impressed with his service I did stop by the Concierge desk to tell his supervisor. Eric was there and he actually remembered speaking with me and what services I had reserved.

I had reserved a room on line via the Caesars website using an offer. I am Platinum and Mom is Diamond. Individually, we had free room offers at all the Las Vegas CET properties BUT Caesars. By joining our reservation as "Companions" we were able to get 4 free nights at Caesars. I had reserved a room in the Palace Tower (as that was the best I could get using the offer) but we were upgraded, without asking, to a room in the Augustus Tower overlooking the Bellagio Fountains. We had stayed in the Augustus Tower previously and we do love the rooms and the location. Room was in great condition and very clean. Mom loves the jetted tub and made good use of it during our stay. We also knew they had the Keurig coffee makers so Mom brought her own pods. Nothing was said and fresh cups were left daily.

Our only issue was the room was that it was cleaned very late in the day, 4-5pm. One night about 5pm we went back to room to get ready for dinner and the maid was still there doing the beds. Bathroom was cleaned so we tipped her and told her to leave the beds. She was happy and said it was her lucky day. She then called someone from the room phone and advised them we asked her to leave. Funny thing was the day we were checking out we went down to breakfast and play a little. We came back to the room around 10am and it was all cleaned. We hadn't even checked out yet. Our suitcase were open and packed except for a few last minute needed items so she knew we hadn't left. I guess less work for when we do leave? I do understand they need to get the rooms ready for check-in's, but still, 4-5pm is too late. We also had an problem with the room keys one day. They didn't work. Of course it was after we returned from the spa in our bathing suits and bathrobes. Turned out the lock was broke and they had to send a repairman up to fix it. He was sweet and made sure everything was working properly before he left. I was surprised to see the door locks use AA batteries. I thought maybe the battery died but he said no it was something else.

We went to the Qua Spa one day to get facials and partake in the Roman Style baths. Everyone was very nice and attentive. We were given a very detailed tour of the spa. I had allowed 2 hours to use the faculties before our facial. Which for us ended up being too long. I really enjoyed the main room with the 4 different temperature hot tubs or pools. One had sort of a built in chase lounge where you could lay and the jets hit my body in all the right places. Mom is much shorter than me and she somehow ended almost underwater when she tried to use the same area. The Arctic room was neat. When you went in the opening of the door trigged a fake snow storm, but it was not really cold in there but about 50 degrees. They explained that this would normally be the last stop at the spa where the cold would seal your pores. The have a nice "Tea Lounge" where you wait for your attendant. Comfy chairs. But a little loud due to all the comings and goings. We also learned that Diamond and Platinum card holders get a 10-15% discount at the Spa. We arrived around 10am and the spa was very quiet by the time we left at 130pm it was quite crowded and getting loud. I had a signature facial which was $180 before the discount. I did really see and feel a difference in my skin afterwards. Mom had a Coffeeberry Yogurt facial which was $200 before the discount. I know she really enjoyed it but she didn't mention seeing a difference in her skin. I appreciated that they didn't try to sell us high priced products that we didn't need. We were both given names of products to buy in our local drug stores. She recommended a Neutrogena product to me for example. We loved the spa, loved the service. Would certainly return again.

We stopped by the Diamond check in area to settle our bill before checking out. We both had quite a bit of comps built up from their Total Rewards credit card and local casino 10x promotions. We tried to pay at the Spa using our Total Reward cards but were told we had to charge it to the room and we could use our comps at checkout. We did make it known that we were paying separately. At checkout we were told they could not split the charges between our 2 accounts as the room was only in 1 persons name. That was wrong as I am 100% sure both names were on the reservation as they were joined as "companions" and I had to present photo ID at time of check in along with Mom. I was not pleased but but I was not in the mood to debate the issue. I told them to take all the charges off my Total Reward account. In the end they, of course, took them from my Mom's account instead. Mom was upset and I offered to call the hotel or Total Rewards to get it straightened out. She said don't bother and that the next time we to to Atlantic City Spa day is on me. Sounds fair.

    SHOWS & ATTRACTIONS

After getting settled and unpacked we walked over to Mirage Box Office to get our tickets for "Love" and "Believe". Both earned from MyVegas. I loved that I was able to pick up both sets of tickets at Mirage. No line, No hassle. Walked away 5 minutes later with both sets of tickets.

Love - Please know, I am not a fan of Cirque Du Soleil shows. We saw one in Philadelphia and I swore I would never see another one. That said we really enjoyed the "Love" show. We had great seats but then again I think any seat would be great. There was so much going on at times I didn't know where to look. Not sure I would have pay full price but for free it was a great show and I highly recommend it.

Believe - I didn't really know much about Chris Angel. I had read reviews on many sites and his show is not highly recommended. Folks say either the show is not like his TV Show (which I've never seen), that it is not a "Cirque" show (which is good because I don't like them) or that they like magic and he does not do magic. Between the 2 of us we had so many MyVegas points to burn I thought what the heck. How bad can it be. It wasn't bad but just plain weird. Or maybe he was just plain weird. I will say he does have quite a following and some folks apparently love him. His show was sold out and there were lots of screaming fan in the front. We did leave this show early just because it was so strange. He doesn't do magic but illusions. The show was almost entirely him disappearing from somewhere or something and reappearing someplace else in the theater. I wouldn't go again, even for free. Not recommended unless you are a serious Chris Angel fan or like to look at fancy motorcycles which he apparently collects and displays in the lobby.

The Mentalist - Got 2 tickets from Groupon for $25. Mom watches the TV Show. I never heard of him. It was in the V Theater in the Miracle Miles Shops at Planet Hollywood. Small showroom upstairs from the main theater. There couldn't have been more than 50 people. They tried to get us to pay for upgraded seats. I had read on Yelp that is was a small theater and not to waste the money. Boy were they right. Unless you want to be a part of the show. The folks in the first row had way more interaction with him then the rest of us. He did do some amazing things and taught us a little about how he does it. It was a great show and he truly has a gift. I would recommend his show. We would see him again in a heartbeat and I would pay full price.

CSI Experience - I also had tickets from Groupon and it was BOGO free. We went early around 10am and we were the only folks there for quite a long time. They give you a case and you have to go to different stations to get clues to solve it. There are 3 different cases. At the end you present your findings to Grissom/William Peterson via computer. You could spend as much or as little time there as you like. It probably took us 1 hour, but we only looked at our case. I'm sure you could read and try to solve the others also. They also have a photo station where you can dress in CSI gear and they take your picture in different CSI poses. Very fun and we did buy one at the outrageous price of $18 for a 5 x 7. Even with BOGO free I feel it was overpriced at $28. We had did fun. It's something I think most folks would only do once. I'm glad we went. Recommended if you can get a discount.

    GAMBLING

We are, what I consider, to be low rollers. We play penny machines and not at max bet. But we do, at least, play all lines. We tried to concentrate our play at Caesars in hopes of generating future offers. We really enjoy games with the shared group bonuses. We played "Sex in the City Night on the Town" quite a bit. We really liked that game. Judge Judy was another one we played a lot. I don't personally care for Judge Judy herself but I liked the game. I have a love affair with a "Jackpot Party" Progressive. They have this bank of machines at most CET properties around the country. I love the one "Amazon Riches". There are 4 levels of progressive jackpots starting at $8/$20/$200/$2500. I was lucky enough to hit the top one that was over 3K at Caesars in Atlantic City the other year and now I'm hooked. They have them in Caesars and Harrahs in Las Vegas. I wasn't lucky enough to hit it this trip but Mom was able to hit the 3rd level $200 one two different times. One of those times it was over $300. No big hits, no tax forms issued. Lots of little hits between $50-$100 that was enough to keep me playing and that is what counts. I wanted to like "Twilight Zone" but it didn't like me. Same with Family Guy and a Monopoly game with a wheel. They all just took my money and gave no play. I also noticed that when Mom and I played side by side one of us always did better, HER!! After 4 days I told her she can't sit next to me anymore. I even took to playing 2 machines side by side hoping that "one of me" would win but no they both lost.

I personally brought $1200 to play with. On the 3rd day I was broke and hit the ATM for $400. I was lucky enough that I didn't lose it during the last 2 days and that I was able to go home with my $400 from the ATM. Mom doesn't tell what she lost but she didn't hit the ATM that I was aware of. Considering that mostly everything was comped except for airfare, tips and transportation, I think $1200 is a fair price for a 5 day vacation that included all meals, drinks and unlimited gambling. I bring what I expect to lose. I have never come home from Las Vegas with more than I went with. If I come home with any of my own money that is a win in my book.

Drink service in Caesars was fine. They have a system that you hit the number 3 on a key pad on the machine and that summons a cocktail waitress. Once they were summoned they always seemed to come around to be sure I was taken care of. Possibly I tipped enough to make that happen. The first day I ordered an "Alabama Slammer". Not always my drink of choice but if I am short on time and need a buzz it is my go to drink. The waitress came back laughing saying the bartender had to look it up as he hadn't made one since the 70's. Oh well, I guess I am dating myself as I still drink those. Yes I am old. I loved that (unlike Atlantic City) the drinks come in a tall glass glass and not a 6oz plastic cup. I do have to say Caesars will apparently hire anyone as a cocktail waitress. Most of them were older and not in the best shape. It's nice that Caesars doesn't discriminate, but really now, some of these ladies really need to retire. Or at least retire the blue eye shadow.

    MYVEGAS

Mom and I played the MyVegas game for over a year. In the beginning we would play daily. As the games got boring (even the new ones were the same as the old ones but just with new pictures) we took to saving up all our points and playing once a week or when they would have a double point promotion going on. We never paid any money for chips. It took a year but I was able to get 2 Tickets for Love, 2 Tickets for Chris Angel and 2 Dinner Buffets at Aria. Mom got 2 Dinner Buffets at Mirage, 2 Breakfast Buffets at Bellagio and 2 Breakfast buffets at MGM. We also got 2 One-way monorails passes and the Popcorn and Cotton Candy from Sugar Factory. Be warned the Sugar Factory does not have the popcorn and cotton candy pre-made. They make it to order while you wait. I think they do this so you will shop and spend money in their store. We did not. It was too expensive to shop there. I am trying to keep my MyVegas account active but I'm not sure it's worth the bother. The awards have gone so far downhill since when it was first started and it's almost all BOGO anymore. It was worth it to us at the time and it helped us save our CET comps and we got to try some new places.

    FOOD/DINING

Mirage "Cravings" dinner buffet. Free using points from MyVegas. We were not at all pleased with the buffet. I would say it was the worst one we went to while in Las Vegas. We went around 5pm and there was no line. There were also very few people eating. I did like they made your salad and served the ice cream to you. But possibly because there were so few people in the buffet the stations were not manned. After waiting for what seemed like 5 minutes for ice cream I gave up and ate something else. They did have Snow Crab Legs they were cold and not split. Even for free I would not return to this buffet.

Bellagio "The Buffet" breakfast buffet. Free using points from MyVegas. We were told at the MLife desk to use the VIP Line. Breakfast was good with lots of selections. Omelets, waffles, pancakes and French toast made to order. Really great chocolate croissants. Great service. Highly recommended.

Aria dinner buffet. Free using points from MyVegas. Went around 5pm and there was no line. Very nice buffet. 2nd favorite while in Las Vegas. Nice set-up for traffic flow. Hot and cold Snow Crab Legs that were split. Best New England Clam Chowder I've ever had. So good I had 2 bowls. Small Indian section with Tandori Chicken that was out of this world good. Pulled pork not so good but in general everything we had was good. All food was hot or cold as appropriate. Service was lacking but it was due to a shift change and a new waitress. No real issue other than a few piled up plates. Really great buffet. Highly recommended.

MGM breakfast buffet. Free using points from MyVegas. Okay buffet. Seemed like a lot of Mexican dishes, but there was enough regular breakfast food to fill us up. We had no waitress for quite a while after being seated. It wasn't until my after my 3rd trip to the buffet that we were acknowledged. After that our drinks came fast and our table was cleared. No real issue for me, but Mom needed her coffee and was trying to flag down anyone she saw for coffee. For free it was acceptable. I don't think I would return.

Ruth Chris's at Harrahs for dinner. Paid for in part using Mom's $100 Diamond Dining Certificate. We love Ruth Chris's. We had never been to the one in Las Vegas. We had a reservation at 5pm. The restaurant opens at 5pm and you have to take a private elevator up to the restaurant. At 450pm there were at least 20 people waiting by the elevator to go up. It appeared they do not activate the elevator until 5pm. After we went up we stood in line for a short time as folks were seated. We were given a window seat overlooking the strip. Not the best view, as it was mostly of the bus stop and the homeless man begging for money. Having ate at Ruth Chris's prior I tried to order so that we would not waste food as I couldn't really bring a doggy bag back to Caesars. We each had the Lobster Bisque and shared a salad. We also shared a Strip Steak and 2 sides. It was still way too much food. We noticed a few other tables sharing also. Mom wanted to take the leftovers and give them to the homeless person in front of Harrahs. I told Mom he probably didn't probably want our leftovers. Our waiter was a doll. I wish I could remember his name. So sweet and attentive. He kept mentioning that we were Diamond and he had to make sure we were happy. Because he was so nice he got a large tip. He was very grateful and gave us both a hug and a kiss on the cheek as we were leaving. He asked us to join him the next night at Ruth Chris's. We politely declined and told him we were going to Bacchanal at Caesars but he was welcome to join us. He laughed and said he was working. Highly recommended. Great food, great service. Only suggestion is make reservation after 5pm or arrive after 515pm to avoid the line at the elevators.

Flamingo breakfast buffet. Free using Buffet Pass perk from the Total Rewards credit card. Word of warning. You get the Pass from the Total Reward desk and the 24 hours starts at that time. NOT when you check into the buffet. We love the seating at the Flamingo buffet overlooking the gardens and the birds. It was feeding time for them when we were there and it was fun to watch. Okay buffet. Crepes made to order with lots of healthy and not so healthy options. Pancakes also made to order. Great service. Recommended.

Caesars "Bacchanal" Dinner Buffet. $25 up charge on top of Buffet Pass. We went around 4pm. We used the Diamond line but there was no regular line at that time. By the time we left there was a small line. I am not sure if it was because it was our first time there or if because Mom is Diamond we were given quite a detailed tour of all the stations by the hostess prior to being seating. Seating does seem to be very "close" at least where we were seated. We were practically sharing a table with the couple next to us. Lucky they were nice folks and we enjoyed their company. Some of the best food I've ever had at a buffet. In Las Vegas or anywhere else. Stand outs were Lamb Chops. Thick, juicy and cooked to perfection, Great smoky flavored BBQ. Shrimp and Grits. Greek Salad. Cheeses and Breads. So much good stuff. The Snow Crab Legs were disappointing, they were split but were "stored" in pots of water. As such they were water logged and had no flavor. I also would have like more signs to tell you what the food was. It appeared that the "chefs" behind the counters like to explain everything. Nice touch but give me a sign. Great selection of desserts. Crepes made to order (strangely enough though they were better at the Flamingo), Molten Chocolate Cake that was actually molten in the middle. Chocolate covered strawberries. Jelly Belly Jellybeans (which went into Mom's pocket for a late night snack.) Mochi Ice Cream which was very popular with the Asian diners. It is a rice cake with ice cream inside. They had many different flavors/colors of Mochi. After the server explained it to me what it was I declined. Now I wish I did at least taste it. Oh well next time maybe. I was amazed that everything was cooked to perfection. Hard enough to do in a restaurant, I would have thought impossible to do for a buffet, but somehow Caesars did it. We've found now that we are getting older we don't eat as much as we use to. For the $25 up charge it was well worth it. For the $50 it would have cost I don't think I would go back. So many other places in Las Vegas I could spend $50 on and get a great meal. I do highly recommend it if you are a big eater.

Caesars "Bacchanal" Breakfast Buffet. We had planned to go to Paris using the Buffet Pass but Mom wasn't up for the walk and we stayed at Caesars. There was a $15 up charge on top of the Buffet Pass for breakfast. It was around 8am and there was no line. We were again given a very detailed tour of all the stations prior to be seating even after we were asked if we had been there before and we said yes. Even at 8am there were quite a few "Brunch" offerings out. The cheese was also out but no good breads to go with it. Darn. Good thick pepper bacon. Eggs benedict, cooked perfectly with runny yolks. We were sat in a different section than the night before and there was much more room between tables. Caesars even had stack of USA Today newspapers out to read with breakfast. Very nice touch. For the $10 up charge it was a great deal. Even at full price it is pretty much in line with other top notch breakfast buffets. I would certainly return. For us, staying at Caesars it was worth it for the convenience. Highly recommended.

Great report! Thanks for sharing with us. Especially appreciate the details of the buffet @ Caesars (plan to go next trip) and the tip on Ruth Chris's...(thinking about also using my $100 Diamond dinner certificate. Sounds like you had a good time with your Mom and made some great memories.

Thanks for the report... I enjoyed reading! You're correct about the SWA Early Boarding. I think most reasonable people wouldn't think those boarding positions would be acceptable for "early boarding". Also, appreciate your critique of the Mirage Buffet... there's been many recent posts about how it's gone downhill. I used to really like it, but that was many years ago, good to know.

Great report. Thanks for the good info. Staying at Caesars in a week so your report is very helpful. I have a question about your room. Other than the fountain view, what about the Augustus tower room is different than the Palace tower. Do you know if the deluxe rooms also have a Keurig or just the premium rooms? Did your facial at Qua include shoulder or neck massage? I can't decide between a massage or a facial. Any other helpful info about Caesars particularly that you didn't include in your report? Thanks again!

    Hello,

It was live TV. There were only about 10 Channels. I don't remember then all. There was one of the major stations (sorry don't remember which, but Miley Cyrus was on one of those morning shows this was on 10/7) Fox, Food Network and a home and garden are a few others. When you logged onto internet it came up right away. You could also watch other "on demand" like shows from the same networks. I got the impression they are going to be charging for it in the future.

If you wanted to go to any website other than SW and Direct TV there was a charge.

I hope this helps. Thanks for reading

I've never stayed in the Palace tower so I can't compare. I have stayed in the Forum tower. The rooms there are smaller but still very nice. The bathroom was big. Our room only had a shower but it had a rain like head in the ceiling and another head on the wall. I like the location of the Forum tower also.

I don't know if our room was deluxe or premium so again I can't answer on the Keurig. Sorry

The facial did include a neck and small back massage along with hand and leg (calf and foot) massage. Not very long ones, probably as long as it took the masque to dry. I have also had massages in the past but I really like the facials. They do give you a choice of a male or female. She asked indirectly if I wanted to chat or not. Now my Mom was asked to complete a form before her facial. Questions like what do you expect your results to be, what skin care do you use currently and so on. I was not asked to complete any form. Not sure if it was due to her age or the type of facial as ours were both different.

The technician told me that she is very slow and sometimes only does 1 facial a day. She says most people go with the massage, especially if money is tight. She also said the majority of her business are business men. I was really surprised. I don't know 1 single man that has even gotten a facial. But again I am a blue collar kinda gal. Could be common in the suit world. She also said the man are much more vain than the women. Who would have thought. LOL

I hope this helps. Thanks again for reading

    CCaroleann: Great report. Thanks.

Ice Man: When you open your web browser a proxy takes you to southwest's site. You can then sign in for full access internet (for a fee) or choose to watch dish tv (for free). As the op stated 10 (to 15) channels and some on demand. Dish is paying for the service in exchange for advertising. Used it in august, it is pretty simple and straightforward.

Not sure why it did not work on the nook, as it should work with any wifi enabled device.

You can connect via wifi using "compatible" devices such as iphones, ipads, etc. Not all devices/phones are supported. You get to a main menu after connecting and you can select one of the free TV stations to watch during your flight. If you want to browse the web, it costs $8.
