Odd thing happened this past weekend in Vegas. A dealer who obviously would prefer a career as a grade school teacher.

Apparently, over the course of Thursday night to Friday night, the Flamingo changed their 3 card table rules so that players are not allowed to pick up their cards until the card dealer machine light goes off. First table we sat at, the dealer yelled at us for trying to pick up cards when we had NO idea about the rule (note: rest of the dealers were cool about the "this is a new rule" thing and trying to re-train people rather than yelling). So that was the first hand. Second hand at the one table, the dealer then yelled at my husband about something, and me about something else (do not recall what). We packed up chips and moved to the other available table after that. All other dealers that weekend did not seem to have the issues this one had.

I don't play tables too often - is it so common for a dealer to be that mean to people?

Ugh I hate that rule....it's been enforced for years at the two CET properties that I visit outside of Vegas. I really hope that it doesn't become widespread in Vegas as well.... :grrr:

It was entertaining to see... that night and the next, pretty much every table the dealer was on was empty.

I suspect we won't see that dealer next trip.

It was rude and hopefully you will let someone know about it. Dealing is the wrong profession for bad attitudes. Losing money and rudeness from a dealer is not a good mix. Glad you moved and hope you won't let it ruin your trip.

mrsvjw: While I understand the rule (don't let players see their cards before it is clear there hasn't been a misdeal), most dealers have a better way of enforcing it. And some casinos don't enforce it at all (misdeals by the machines are extremely rare). But some dealer can't help being a**holes. I know of one in Windsor who has a fit if you even touch your cards before the machine deals the hands and she settles her cards in place. I now avoid her table at all costs. Even when I really want to play and it is the only available table, I'll move on until there is a dealer change.

Good that you colored up and moved. Hope you said something to a supervisor. That is the only way some of these knucklehead dealers will ever get the point. There are several casinos that I will never set a foot in again, out of principal, because of rude dealers and hotel staff.:peace::beer:

Pit boss did look over after my husband (a notoriously good tipper) loudly announced "We're moving to another table!" and they may have juggled around the rotation while he was playing on Saturday, since he didn't come to visit with me for 20 minutes while the dealer in question was moved to his table, lol.

Even some of the dealers (Flamingo) were having problems remembering not to touch their cards early. And trying to keep things moving when people were getting distracted and not playing fast enough. :evillaugh

I had almost the opposite thing happen to me at Paris a few weeks ago. I was waiting every hand for all of the cards to come out of the machine. Several dealers kept telling me I could touch the cards. I guess their policy was as long as the players and the dealer had their cards it was all good, and even if the machine got fluckered up it would still be a good hand. I'm going back in 3 weeks, and knowing my luck they've probably changed it and I'll get yelled at. :rolleyes2:

As long as they haven't moved this one dealer to Paris, you might be good. A bunch of the dealers were NOT having a good time with the change themselves. And the fact it came on so sudden, I have to hope a particular incident forced it and it won't be around to stay.

She may prefer a career as a grade school teacher but doubtful she would be welcomed if her approach to "reteaching" is as described. But then she could have a principal like the pit boss and simply look the other way.......

Waiting until all the dead hands have come out actually makes some sense. Let's say a cheater has stolen two cards from the table. When the dealing machine sees only 50 cards instead of 52, they want to void that hand immediately.

The reason they don't want you looking at your cards early is to avoid disappointment (and an argument) if you get a huge hand and it IS a misdeal.

I thought this was always the rule?

The only CET casino I've played 3CP at is PH in the Pleasure Pit, but I feel like we've always had to wait for all the cards to come out before we could look at our cards. They always said if someone gets a major hand (like the six card diamond royal flush for a million bucks), it could be voided if they go back and check the video and see that you grabbed your cards too early.

But no, the dealer shouldn't have yelled at you. The worst dealer I ever saw was at the MGM Grand dealing BJ Switch. She yelled at me for signaling too fast and yelled at the drunk guy next to me for a variety of things. I immediately cashed out up $60 and was like, "NO TIP FOR YOU!" (I was drunk too).

I seriously doubt they'd try to take away a big hand just because you picked up your cards 2 seconds too early. They don't want you to do it because 1) you might see a big hand and 2) it turns out to be a malfunction of the machine and a misdeal and they'd have to void THAT hand.

The rule is a good one in that it prevents any liability on the casino's part if you were to pull a Royal, especially with the bonus, and the machine malfunctions. Most people would have a shit fit over that. After being scolded for years, a very nice Hawaiian lady dealer at the Cal patiently explained the reason for the rule and now I get it.

I think I would have to be there and discern the difference between "yelling" and a "scold with force".

Sorry, this is not a new rule at all, maybe it is for the Flamingo and there was confusion during the first day of implementation.

I am of the opinion that if someone (the dealer) informs you of a change of procedure and one insists on defying said procedure, then a proper tongue lashing is in order.

It's always been enforced at my local CET props, but I've never once had anyone in Vegas mention it before.

Hopefully you said something to a Casino Host or a Floor Supervisor. This is not something the casinos want to push!

It's not a new rule for Flamingo at all. I first played 3card in 2012 at Flamingo and they were enforcing the rule then. I didn't get yelled at though, and the dealer explained the reason for waiting (misdial on a good hand then customer is upset). I went to Paris the next night and the same rule applied. The one thing that does happen is I've occasionally had a dealer (at Flamingo) who sees me waiting for the green light and tells me "Go ahead and look. I don't care about the light."
